  1. Buffalo Bayou Brewing Company is no longer operating at Sawyer Yards. A lockout notice is posted on the grounds of the local brewery. In a CultureMap article published today, the lockout is due to "non-payment of rent." Buffalo Bayou Brewing Company operated at 2101 Summer St. Additional details from the article: Sawyer Yards owner Jon Deal served Buffalo Bayou CEO William McLucas with a notice of default at noon. Via that document, he terminated the brewery’s lease on its building at 2101 Summer St. https://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/buffalo-bayou-brewing-closed-sawyer-yards-1/
  2. Alice Blue recently announced it is closing its doors. The restaurant from Claire Smith closes in February. As noted above, Alice Blue's unit is shown in recent leasing materials as available. The unit's address is 250 W 19th St, Suite A. It's located in the mini shopping hub at 238-250 W 19th St. Below is a post about it from another topic: https://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/6065-the-heights-restaurant-and-bar-scene-more-coming/?do=findComment&comment=695823 More details from Houston Chronicle about Alice Blue closing next month: “My lease on 19th Street is ending, my son is a sophomore at Rice, and the time seems right for enjoying life. You never know, I may want a coffee shop one day. But for now, I will be watching all the amazing things happening in the Houston restaurant scene," Smith said. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/food-culture/restaurants-bars/article/alice-blue-houston-closing-18627447.php Additional article about Alice Blue's impending closure at 250 W 19th St, Ste A: https://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/alice-blue-urban-eats-closed-1/
  3. That is your opinion, but it's not true. There are a number of developers who own many properties throughout the Greater Heights. And many are developing their properties that may range from anywhere to minor improvements to a complete overhaul. I know many people aren't thrilled with Wolf Capital Partners kicking out A 2nd Cup, which lead to the space being divided and leased to two retail chains. And there are some who place blame on Wolf Capital Partners for Andy's Home Cafe moving (though Andy's owned the property its restaurant was located). But Wolf Capital Partners isn't the only developer buying properties in the area and bringing in new tenants. If you're placing blame on Wolf Capital Partners, where is the blame for Asana Partners? The out-of-state company owns most of the major retail hubs in the Greater Heights, most which were acquired from Radom Capital. So, in that sense, would you also place blame on Radom Capital, Braun Enterprises, and others whose developments (and redevelopments) reshaped the Heights, but eventually sold those developments to other developers?

  10. There is outrage from some regarding Heights Marketplace implementing paid parking. As posted above, the shopping center recently installed signs instructing visitors to pay for parking. In response to paid parking complaints, someone supposedly with Collina's addressed the issue in various Facebook groups and other pages on the social media platform. Collina's one of several tenants located in the shopping center. According to the restaurant, the landlord is rumored to transform some of its strip centers into apartments. The restaurant speculates Heights Marketplace may be one of those properties.

  13. The address for this Garden Oaks Shopping Center is 3800-3940 N Shepherd Dr. Also, this is not in The Heights area. There is really a need for a Garden Oaks/Oak Forest/Independence Heights forum. It's strange there isn't one.

  18. I'm not sure. Personally, I'd like to see ground floor retail included in multi-family developments. Food and beverage tenant-wise, I don't think Tin Drum brings in much foot traffic or diners. With Dripped Birria signing on, that may change. Of course, some customers may be deterred by the parking garage.
  19. Below is a map with the 452 W 19th St and 506 W 19th St parcels outlined. Located on the properties is Heights Marketplace, a shopping center at 428-516 W 19th St.

  25. More on Academic Business Project, the collaborative program between University of Houston Hilton College Graduate Program and Mighty Equities's forthcoming hotel possibly named Gossamer. The hotel is planned for 704 Hyde Park Blvd. The information below is included in material submitted to the Planning Commission. The developers have already partnered with the University of Houston Hilton College to create the sole academic business project for the Global Hospitality Business graduate program. This will provide University of Houston Graduates with crucial experience in the hospitality industry. It is also the goal for the staff to have access to benefits and resources such as onsite daycare. The proposed hotel will act as a resource and hub for the neighborhood and community and the developers are researching neighborhood memberships for the amenities for the proposed hotel.
