3333 Richmond is on the demolition report for today http://swamplot.com/daily-demolition-report-in-cavershambles/2015-12-22/ I still think this building looks unique, more so than the boxy one that will replace it :/

cspwal replied to Urbannizer's topic in Third Ward and University of Houston
It's probably attached townhouses -
It might be better if it was nestled among some other buildings. As is it stands out...and in a bad way

Burger theory is open for breakfast now, from 6:30 am - 10 am. They said lunch won't start until January 1 The bar is fully open though now noon to 2:30 am every night They said the delay on lunch and dinner was because of construction, so the hotel itself will probably open soon and construction be complete by 1/1

Probably both myopia regarding downtown and forgetting all the office space in uptown. Downtown is still the largest area of office space, even if it isn't a majority

Notes from reading this: They have a map of "midtown" with a big star on downtownIt does look like they have done 16 affordable housing projects. This is very admirableThey do mention the land bank program - "$31 million of the Affordable Housing costs" So I guess if they were getting lots in midtown it would be even more so they would have a smaller effectBoth multifamily and single family affordable housingLooks like the super block may have been originally imagined as one large park, but they do talk about it. Very much worth a read even if you don't understand half of it (like me)
-
I think what they are saying is that they want to sell it, but deed restricted to be affordable housing. Why they need so many lots, and whether they actually are affordable housing right now, is what confuses me. Also, why not build some of this affordable housing in/near midtown?

It would have to be done more similar to Scott or Harrisburg than Main street. There would have to be protected left pockets, still provide room for car traffic (one versus two lane would be a big issue) and most importantly it can't shut down the street at any point - only close lanes as the work moves back and forth. It could be done, but care would have to be taken. If successful, it would cement Washington ave as a great corridor for activity, and provide a blueprint for a light rail down Richmond. The only feasible way for a light rail to work off Washington would be down Center, but the current street is too small for even 2 lanes of cars + train. It would probably involve closing the street and cutting off access to anyone that faces it.

Niels Esperson Building, Partial Conversion To Multifamily
cspwal replied to MidtownCoog's topic in Downtown
Are you sorry the quality is so good? Nice photo! -
Looking at the map, the indicated lot looks vacant, and looks like it has been since 288 was built. It looks like the remains of old streets and houses are there. I could be imagining things though

I'm not sure where you would want to put a new UT school. There aren't many cities that aren't served by A&M or UT except Lubbock (Texas Tech) and Houston (UH). Edit: To clarify, I liked your previous comment. I thought it very well laid out the negatives to having a new UT campus in Houston UT schools: A&M Schools:

I wonder how many residents could even name which district they're in, much less who their councilman is (I have to look up his name each time)
