  1. There was a house of pies on the southwest freeway 20 years ago.... Just past sharpstown but before the beltway.. . It's now a scooter store.
  2. While I am happy to see ridership on the rise in absolute numbers, could these stats also mean than as a percent of total population that ridership is actually down?
  3. Supposedly, inside the park shops, Fit Athletic (took over from Larry North) is supposedly going to be two stories.... They are rumored to be taking over the old Ninfa's space down below and will combine it with their space above. Perhaps just a rumor. IDK.
  4. Separately, according to an article on Swamplot, skyhouse is 45% full and "on track" with their occupancy projections. They have, however, initiated a rent concession program to attract new renters.
  5. 1) it's bad.... Numbers are being revised toward the negative 2) it's going to get worse.... We won't know the full extent until the summer. 3) it won't be as bad as the 80's 4) it will be somewhere "in between" the 80's and the Great Recession (he may have misspoken here? Or did I hear it wrong?) 5) we did not over build office space or residential units like we did in the 80's 6) when oil hit $100 people started questioning when it would slide. In the 80's we thought the increases would last forever. 7) the banking system now has interstate banking unlike the 80's .... So, while there are likely bad loans to the old patch, they won't be concentrated in "Texas only" (my words, not his) banks. We have big banks in here now. I think that was about the gist. Did I miss anything?
  6. Good luck with your event! My guess is that you'll have a real winner here especially if the weather is nice that day! I didn't know that there was an "East Montrose Civic Association." Can you describe the boundaries covered by it? Thank you.
  7. Those pictures are great! May I ask another question? The stairs look like they were poured in place. That surprises me. I would have guessed that the stairs in buildings such as this would be cast offsite and then bolted in place. But, I know nothing of these matters. In buildings like this, Is it typical to do one or the other these days?
  8. I am a bit surprised that it seems there is so much haze..... It appears to me that there is a lot of air pollution. The Houston MSA had how many people at this time? Million?
  9. For those folks who actually know how to read plans like these (I.e. Not me) is there anything here that would indicate whether the 45-59 alignment behind the GRB will be a tunnel or will it be a cut? If it's a cut, it looks like a significant condemnation? If a tunnel, perhaps not?
  10. If the pierce was replaced with a linear park would that not create the boundary you seek?
  11. What is the traditional dividing street between Montrose and Midtown?
  12. Is the 787 the plane that has had battery issues in the past? I guess that it must be fixed if they are buying more.
  13. I don't understand why the best use for one or both of these homes isn't on the others idea of downtown in Sam Houston.
  14. Absolutely true. Of course the same can be said for just about any block in downtown. Heck, houston's entire Downtown is something like 1 mile X 1 mile. You can be just about anywhere downtown, on foot in 15 minutes or less. Want to go to the Opera, symphony, ballet, theatre, movies, basketball, baseball, soccer, acquirium, music concerts, bowling, library, or 50 restaraunts or bars? It's all less than a 15 minute walk or a fixed price $6 cab ride.
  15. From 2002: http://www.houstonpress.com/2002-07-25/news/this-old-house/
  16. Holy moly! I didn't see that! I can see why there might be two (in on one side ant out on another) but, three?
  17. I just looked closer at the renderings. It seems that entrance to the resident garage is on LaBranch. If this rendering ever gets built, I hope that Camden switches the entrance to one of the other sides as traffic on game nights can be pretty bad on LaBranch, especially right in front of the TC parking garage.
  18. The aloft website still indicates early summer of 2016. To me, this is a mystery project. Listed On development maps then off. Folks "in the know" say it's definitely on but it has yet to start construction. Public information on star woods own website has a completion date that seems to be becoming tough to meet. It's a mystery to me.
  19. Given the information discussed on this board, I think that this might be plausible.
  20. Maybe I counted wrong.... 19 stories? The side view makes the building look short to me. Regardless, I hope that they build it.
  21. I am looking at the renderings. For those of you with a better eye than me, does it seem like some of the units (in the middle of the building) will not have balconies? It looks that way to me but, I could also be totally wrong.
  22. Those units are large! 1500 sq ft minimum? Wow! I'll bet that the developer is going to charge stratoshere prices here. This project is only a few blocks from 2727 Kirby. That building is in the $600-$700+/sqft range I think. I wonder where this building will price?
  23. I am old. What is a "kick plank scooter?" I really have no idea what that is and Google didn't seem to help. Is it a skate board type of thing? Can you link to a picture?
  24. I remember reading this thread and the discussion about who owns the Store/land. I don't know which is correct but yesterday the Chron reported this: "The Sears, though, appears to be staying. The land is owned by Rice Management Company and the store has a long-term lease, the terms of which the company won't disclose. The store also has no plans to restore any of the building's original details, including murals by Eugene Montgomery depicting scenes from Texas history, which have been almost entirely painted over inside. All that remains is the head of Sam Houston, which has a fake frame placed around it." http://www.houstonchronicle.com/local/gray-matters/article/The-Sears-That-Was-6198716.php?t=d8806196e1&cmpid=twitter-premium Perhaps both are correct? The land is owned by Rice and the building owned by Sears? IDK. Regardless, this Chron reporter indicates that renovation of the old bones of this building are not in the plans.
