  1. The more I read about this project the more interesting it becomes to me.
  2. This is good news. Any idea if these are condos or apartments? Also, there appears to me a large, restricted access parking lot across Caroline. Anyone know what business/activity this lot supports?
  3. While I would imagine that "anything is possible", it seems very hard to imagine that they will finish by Dec 31. For folks who know more about this stuff than me ....... Given the pictures we see above, are we looking at something more like 10-12 months?
  4. So, it's a new name for a high density boarding house?Do we know how these will be occupied? Will they be leased for some duration (3-, 6-, or 12-months) or are they envisioned to be occupied for much shorter durations --- without a lease?
  5. That press release is dated July 9th and makes the statement that "construction is underway." Are there viable signs of that at the site?
  6. What does " single room occupancy efficiency units" mean? And, how would this be different than a "studio apartment"?
  7. I will be curious to see. I imagine that there is a ton of work to do. Going from office to hotel will involve gutting the entire interior and adding new interior spaces and bathrooms (plumbing), electric, and HVAC. It will also involve adding any "behind the scenes" spaces for laundry, kitchen, employee spaces, etc. I wonder if building codes call for differ types of fire exits or fire suppression between an office building and a hotel? Are the distances from rooms to fire exists more strict? Glad to see this project moving forward and I hope to learn something regarding how long and "interior only" (assuming that is true) conversion like this might take.....
  8. I wonder if this will be ready in time for the Super Bowl? Probably not?
  9. Kbates2: Thanks for trying. There are generally cops all over downtown -- on foot, horse, car or bike. I see this lane everyday and have yet anything like this guy but, I have resolved that when I do, I will simply call the department, explain the issue, and hopefully get the offending vehicle ticketed. Will my plan work? Who knows? But I will try. Next time, if it's a commercial vehicle, you may also wish to snap the plate number (along with the other images) and send to the police too. Likely will amount to nothing but, can't hurt.
  10. I am glad that there is a target opening for this hotel now. The restaurant sounds like a good, solid, " joint" for this class of hotel too. It will give the folks at the condos across the street a nice "joint" to hang out at if they desire.
  11. Cool. I think that the building has about 100 units. So, that would be 20 units..... More than the "18" supposedly needed to start construction. If all of that is true, it means that construction might actually start in November. That would be terrific!
  12. I'll take a different tack while agreeing with the gist of your post. It seems to me that the voiceover messaging was just about perfect. But, the graphics should have included actual images. The fly over of discovery green, to me, would have been a "WOW", had they just invested in an actual flyover. Images of the GRB and Hilton similarly would have added to the "wow" in my opinion. It seems like a lot of work went into this video to create a fairly proletariat video that does little to highlight one of the convention centers best assets - GREEN space and NEW buildings. My guess is that this is the first video of several since they CAN'T use actual footage yet because some stuff mentioned ISN'T BUILT yet. So, I'm thinking that they will create a similar video when they can use actual images.
  13. Any pictures of this building! The images from April seem like a nice fully remodeled building -- not a "historic renovation" --- but a nice repurposed, new, building. Is it done? Pictures?
  14. So, back in April they were projecting a June start (based on sales of 18 units and they had already sold 2). Now it seems from the info in the post above that they are projecting November. Are the sales not materializing as fast as they planned or is it construction scheduling delays? Or, was the sales office just being very optimistic back in April?
  15. How many cars can be "trained" together in this light rail system?
  16. That certainly can be a good indication of wealth. But, is it also possible that this couple have many of the trappings of wealth but......1) were leasing the car.... And they only had one car ...... Not two. 2) were still paying off their clothes at 18% on their credit cards 3) were still paying student loans and 4) generally had not much actual wealth but rather a debt enabled lifestyle financed by the cash flow from good white collar jobs that made them appear "obviously wealthy" despite having little money in the bank? Is that a possibility? I have known people who had good jobs, tons of debt to finance a lifestyle, but seemed "wealthy"..... They actually were not. They were actually living paycheck to paycheck.
  17. I am always intrigued by this..... What about this young couple made them seem "obviously wealthy"?
  18. Ok, but a bike lane on Caroline just for downtown is kinda like a path to nowhere. As you said, I too am hopeful that they city is creating lanes based on a cohesive masterplan of some kind. I would hope that a plan exists to use any downtown trails to link together the trails on Bufalo bayou, heights, east tap, etc. adding a lane from downtown to the medical center would be awesome.
  19. I can see that. I wonder if the plan would be to only go to HCC or would they plan to go around HCC and continue on Caroline to the Museum district?
