  1. Any news at all on this? I drive by it several times a day. I think the window for it to be profitable is starting to close with all the other high rise projects in the works.
  2. I didn't realize the Houston Club was 18 stories tall. http://m.bizjournals.com/houston/blog/breaking-ground/2014/10/how-to-demolish-a-building-in-downtown-houston.html
  3. I counted at least 7 cranes while sitting on 59 in traffic behind the convention center. How great is that part of our skyline going to look by 2016/2017!
  4. Look - Randall has good ideas, and a dream. Just not great execution. He has added a lot of residential buildings. My issue is not one of his buildings (Not even ONE) has been well thought out in how it relates to the buildings around it. Many times he forgets that they are tall, and can be seen on four sides. Just spend a bit more and make it right. In the scope of his projects a 2-3% added cost for architecual details (real ones) would make a big difference. He would be great in Vegas or maybe even Beaumont. We deserve better.
  5. The top ends abrubtly, in my opinion. If it had a spire or something it would have been a big improvement. That being said, there is a clear market for his stuff - not much I can add to that.
  6. I concur. Let's bet on how ugly and cheap looking it could be? He absolutely is the lowest common denominator on looks, materials and design. What he does get, unfortunately, is location location location. As we say "dammit it all".
  7. Just heard from a staff member at Super Cuts that they have been given notice to move out due to an impending sale. Any one have an inside on this?
  8. That looks huge! I was stuck at that light yesterday there and that part of Montrose definitely needs to be redeveloped.
  9. I like how the Uptown Tirz has committed $100-150M. That gives this a real chance. It's nice to have such a vision for this important park as our city becomes more dense.
  10. That would look cool, but it would also eliminate pedestrian traffic. And we need more of that! Plus the Galleria doesn't own the land that the Hyatts are being built on. I was in the Galleria today and if anyplace needs a walkway it is from Dillard's to Neimans. Speaking of (rambling) why is the Dillard's even still there? That whole place could be redeveloped!
  11. The Westheimer lines will all come down. Unfortunately there are now 8 new huge poles on the southern end of the project on Peckham (4 on each side) and pitifully in true Houston fashion they will remain.
  12. Even LA wants to cover their freeway with a park. http://m.la.curbed.com/archives/2014/08/work_begins_to_put_huge_park_on_top_of_the_101_in_hollywood.php The music in the video seems like it's from an old Hollywood cop show.
  13. It's actually nice to have residential buildings with floor to ceiling glass. The Warwick Tower has a stupid beam that when you are sitting down you can't see the view. The architect that designed that should have to sit there in a time out for a week or so and beg for forgiveness.
  14. From Hines Facebook page: 609 Main at Texas, Hines' next iconic building in downtown Houston, is 3 days away from the mat pour. On Saturday, 180 concrete trucks will line up to continuously pour 14,000 cubic yards of concrete for more than 17 hours. The 48-story office tower is scheduled for completion in early 2017. http://bit.ly/1mlG2J2
  15. They just fenced off Cafe Express today. I didn't have a chance to get a photo. I was worried they were going to wait for that section.
  16. That is fantastic. How could the neighbors complain about that? Look at all the green space. Incredible. Kirby will look completely different in the next 3 years. Wow.
  17. Wow! You are right about those ridiculous comments on Swamplot! Those apartments haven't had a penny spent on them in years. And the family that is selling the property likely had many offers and choose the one that would best redevelop the site, as they still own about 30-40 acres on Kirby. We need the density, and the increased tax base. And IMHO, Hanover does some pretty handsome projects.
  18. Let's hope they save those trees. I think all the commercial on W Alabama is included in this project. It's the same owner. The Dickey family, which has owned the land since Kirby and Westheimer were gravel roads!
