  1. No. That's the expansion of St. John's school. They paid about $80 million for that. It will be a gorgeous campus, but I would have loved some density there.
  2. It's an office. I was at Carraba's today and it's absolutely not residential. They squeezed it onto that lot.
  3. It's hard to say. At $125/foot the land is worth $14m. The units have great floor to ceiling windows and nice balconies, but no washer/dryer connections, and they don't have gas connections. I would give it a 50/50 chance of surviving.
  4. I heard today that all the tenants were told to move out by Sept. This 17 story building is a rental. I wonder of it will be made into condos or what will happen. 5. I figured the days were numbered on this. Too bad St Johns grabbed all the land across the street. It could've been a great new dense development. http://m.bizjournals.com/houston/blog/breaking-ground/2014/07/exxon-mobil-corp-puts-two-of-its-houston.html
  6. That's great about the additional parking. I have been to events at the Hilton Americas when the Rockets were playing and a convention was going on. Absolutely not enough parking!
  7. I think that's a great idea. And they should charge a little for the parking to encourage other transportation.
  8. Ok. Hideous might have been a little strong. But it's basically the entrance to Upper Kirby, and the buildings under utilize the location, and the parking is tough.
  9. I heard this morning from a customer of One2One Training that they have been given notice to vacate and all of the tenants in these hideous buildings must move out by October. I don't know how to post a photo, but has anyone heard if these will be torn down, or (ugh) remodeled?
  10. That "it's hot in Houston" is so tired. I have lived in Baltimore and it was just as hot, just as humid, and we walked 1-2 miles to go to a restuarant because the parking was so bad. NYC you can walk as far. Same with Chicago. And they are hot in the summer, and when you go to a restuarant they charge for tea refills! 5 years ago in Houston you never saw a pedestrian. Now you see them and bicyclists everywhere. It's great to go out and eat and walk it off. An added bonus is you are more connected to the city when you walk and see the houses, businesses etc.
  11. I believe it has to do with the David Crocket subdivision behind it. In that neighborhood they have strict guidelines. Two stories on Virginia and Ferndale, and no town homes on Lake Street, which is why that still hasn't really developed. Who wants a single family facing the car wash, Bed Bath/Beyond etc?
  12. I love it. Uptown is maturing quickly, but it needs another signature building like Williams Tower. Well, maybe just a bit taller!
  13. Wow. That is gorgeous. Do you think it'll block the downtown views from the Museum Tower? Kind of looks like it. It'll likely be finished before the crane is up at the famous Ashby Tower of Terror.

Larry Dierker said "I've seen plenty a pretty butt. But hospital gowns, not so much." Yes, but we are talking about the backside of a Randall Davis project. You know that ain't pretty!

  16. Have you seen the back sides of his buildings. The jail on the bayou is more appealing. And that's not saying much. It's like Randall forgets you can see all four sides of a midrise! Argh... The humanity!
  17. Go to the Upper Kirby District website. They are paying to bury the utilities, improve signage and sidewalks and they added the new sculpture on Kirby. In addition, the roads are being completely replaced section by section.
  18. Upper Kirby District did all that work with their Tax reinvestment dollars. Westheimer is also part of the work they are doing now.
  19. What is happening on this? I was in the Renoir the other day (ugh) and it looks like nothing is happening.
