  1. No, call it: "Paper, or Plastic?" FWIW, I don't mind his posts. At least he's not always ranting about something irrelevant, based off of jaded views developed from a skewed political agenda.
  2. No kidding. This isn't Phoenix or Jacksonville.
  3. If anyone here has been inside City Hall, I think you'll agree with me that a desk from Ikea wouldn't have cut it.
  4. Great follow up Bruce. I happened to know a little bit about this subdivision because I have a friend in Maplewood West. One day after visiting, I drove around. You were right about the Jews, I saw them on Braesridge south of Creekbend I believe. They seemed at ease walking through the neighborhood in the evening, despite the proximity to low-rent apartments on Fondren. I figured that was a good indicator of the neighborhood's stability & general safety. South Braeswood floods pretty bad right before Fondren if you're heading east. You're right about the close proximity to Police, Constables, Fire, and EMS as well. That neighborhood seems to be nestled right in between them all. For grocery stores, my friend uses the Foodarama at South Braeswood & Fondren. For other stuff he heads east to Westbury. I think they have a Home Depot, Kroger, and a Walmart all around West Bellfort & Chimney Rock. This is another one of those areas I'd love to live in if I didn't have kids. Unfortunately, between the home prices and private school, I can't afford to live there. My friend in Maplewood West said he had to take a second job just so he could put the kids in school. He said it was worth it though because his parents live three streets behind him, in the house he grew up in - all before the apartments went ghetto.
  5. I've been in this neighborhood, but I'm not sure of the name. I know the neighborhood directly north of here is Braeburn Valley, which is chock full of MCM's. Maplewood to the immediate west is nice as well. There alot of ethnic Jewish people living in this area as well. You see men walking around in their traditional black suits with hats, beards and curly locks in the evenings go to their religous services (I mention this only to show that they feel safe to walk the streets of their neighborhood at night, even though its not too far from the dangerous areas) I also see alot of people using the Braes Bayou running trail in the evenings as well. Mostly white. Well kept yards. Starting prices are around 200k I believe. The schools are junk. They're overran by the low-rent apartment renters. Private school is almost manditory. I think they have a contract with the Harris County Constable's office for neighborhood patrols as well. Just stay away from Gessner, Fondren south of Creekbend, Bissonnet west of Hilcroft, and Braeswood west of Gessner. Those are the apartment heavy streets in that area. Vicman can tell you the HISD schools zoned. Any specific questions? Thinking of buying?
  6. Like I said: "Jullian's (or whatever is there now).." As in: "I don't really know, much less care.." The point of my post was to educate Plastic on how to ask for a cab over the phone.
  7. Unless you say: "I'm at the Marquee center on I-10 at Silber. Could you send cab to the west entrance by Jullians (or whatever is there now)?" How hard is that? I'm sure that would have eliminated the "which marquee did you mean hon?"
  8. Plastic I intend no offense, but if you speak English like you type it, then a lot of people probably have a hard time understanding you. Then again, the cab dispatcher probably speaks worse English than your typing so no telling what she told you as well. Bottom line is that no, there are not two Marquee Entertainment Centers.
  9. I've always liked it. Hasn't it been mentioned who designed it on HAIF before?
  10. I was refering to zoning, not topography. Those cities have zoning in their favor to allow for a more natural downtown skyline development.
  11. I personally don't see Houston ever overtaking Chicago in anything other than baseline population numbers. We'll never have their skyline because we don't have zoning. Greenspoint, Greenway Plaza, Uptown, Westchase, & West I-10 would all have had to been built downtown for us to have a chance. I think cities like Honolulu, Seattle & San Fransisco have better skylines than us. Back on focus though, the news report tonight wasn't about this City Centre, but instead the Town & Country development.
  12. Do you have a source on that, or was that just stated opinion?
  13. And we probably never will.. Thanks for the pics Mark, Issa & Boris.
  14. No, its more along the lines of: Sunday - it's only one of the two days most people have off every week to go places like the Galleria.
  15. It was mentioned above, but its unlikely that any of the stores besides maybe Borders and a select few restaurants would want to deal with the hassles of 24 hour business. Also I doubt that Simon Management would want to deal with the logistics of 24 hour service.
  16. I like your optimistic enthusiasm, but in all reality, we both know Uptown will never be like New York (I'm assuming you meant Midtown Manhattan), nor would the Galleria ever stay open for 24 hours. I do agree that we will eventually see the end of strip-malls along Post Oak blvd., making way for mixed-use high rise development. I don't think we would see that though for another 30 to 50 years. I'd love to be proven wrong and watch Post Oak become Houston's next pedestrian friendly boulevard within the next 20 years, but I just don't see it happening - yet.
  17. What do you want to bet that he lobbied the whole deal?
  18. I agree and have always envisioned a sky-bridge from the Galleria across to the Post Oak shopping centers.
  19. You, of all people, should take your own advice - especially before dispensing it on someone like Torvald.
  20. What a slap in the face of pedestrian friendly urban development. No wonder Houston is used as the nation's model for everything bad in urban planning & architecture.
  21. Everyone stop worrying about Niche and answer my ON topic question instead.
  22. No kidding! Besides, just wait until they start building that new downtown jiffy lube- er... fire station. Then we'll really have something to delicate flower about!
  23. That's what we should have done! We should have tagged the Katrina evacuees as they got off the bus at the Astrodome!
  24. I haven't been down there in a while, but does it look like there will even be a Main St. entrance?
