samagon
The HCC building would be much more attractive with a lighter glass. That black & white color pattern clashes with the current and proposed structures around it. since the HCC building was there first, don't the newer buildings clash with it? Maybe they should have considered it in their designs

j_cuevas713
It's crazy how the only two things that stick out like sore thumbs in that first pic are the old Holiday Inn and the needed redevelopment of the 800 Bell site. Other than that, things are looking very nice. Edited November 4, 2015 by j_cuevas713

Either way the redevelopment is needed for that building.
HoustonIsHome
Leave my 800 Bell tower alone darn it. A city with all shimmering glass boxes is boring. Nothing spectacular about the shape of 800 bell, it's height no longer make it a titan of Texas, but the classic look of the building still makes me think of Houston. Exxon, Boa, Esperson, Heritage and Gulf should not be F'ed with. Days Inn, yes! Blow that sucker up. Apart from a washing here and there, or some paint, don't touch my 800 Bell We do need a gap filler where that crane is peaking out on the right
Texasota
Yeah, 800 Bell is a classy building. I like the proposed changes at the ground and tunnel levels, but whats proposed for the building itself will just rob it of its character and create another boring glass box.

bobruss
Did I miss something or did Camden change their minds and go with the whole project. I thought the last official word that I read on this site from Camden was that they were going to put a hold on the residential part of the project and just build out the garage and park for Superbowl and wait for some recovery before actually building the development. I thought this was going to be like Skanska Capital project downtown. Just get the garage built and sit on it.

phillip_white
I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that these are good to go unless you have a source that says otherwise. The only thing that I can see that they're pouring at the moment is the garage. For all we know, they could just cover it all with dirt and wait two years to proceed.. j_cuevas713
Last thing I heard was Campo was a go for this project. That's why he put the downtown project on hold until this one was complete and the economy got better.
DrLan34
This is from a March 2015 article. https://www.bisnow.com/houston/news/multifamily/montrose-still-has-a-huge-pipeline-45952 Camden McGowen Station Developer: Camden Units: 315 Move-ins: January 2017 Camden boldly started its Midtown community amid falling oil prices at the end of 2014. Since little else started around that time, CEO Ric Campo says there will be a gap in deliveries in 2017, and this property will be there to fill it. cspwal
It is a shame that it won't look at the downtown skyline I was curious about what it will look like and found the most recent article about it, from the groundbreaking in May http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/2015/05/officials-midtown-superblock-to-be-completed-in-time-for-super-bowl/ The beautiful skyline view I can't tell very much from the plan they have on there (does anyone have a hires version?) but it looks like there will at least be a plaza on the downtown side.

bobruss
Just like Discovery Green and Market Square park have been developed to keep the parks active and the public involved I'm sure this park like the other Midtown park will have activities, dog walking areas and other events to keep the park full of midtown inhabitants. By creating these events and restaurants and other activities in the newly redesigned parks downtown, it has been proven to be an effective way to keep the street population away.

Speakin of taking and never giving anything back...these types of sentiments are worse than homeless people. A moral homelessness, if you will. Make sure to hate and aschew the homeless at church this weekend. I didn't take anyone's comment as "kicking" the homeless. I think people just want to see these new urban parks be successful and it has often happened that a significant lingering homeless population drives other people away and leads to the park being neglected by those in charge of taking care of it. That being said, I will concede that Houstonians and Americans in general are more easily scared by the homeless and have more trouble coexisting with them than other places I've lived, and this is not something to be proud of. Last, the comment about churches was petty; churches do more than anyone to help the homeless. If you are going to point fingers and accuse people of "moral homelessness," better make sure that you are doing more than those churches.

Make sure to hate and aschew the homeless at church this weekend.I do not have problems with people living on the streets and refusing all assistance offered to them. I do have a problem with them urinating and defecating wherever and whenever they please. I have been on metro buses where passengers ( mainly urban and black )gave up rows of seats to get away from the smell. You seem to think folks in the city have no problems with this and it is only suburbanites . You are very wrong.
Montrose1100
I really love the HCC building. I read some comments on it on a Chron article about Houston's ugliest buildings (when looking for the Godzilla architect), and everyone said it looked like a prison. I know it's no LA Water Works but it has style and the park & apartments will have great views of it.
