  1. Look at the progress on the crown in the photos taken today. Compare them to the photos in a previous post, taken just one week ago.
  2. According to Nancy, it's still alive-ish. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/business/sarnoff/6708283.html
  3. Here are several photos I took while at the Chase Tower a couple of days ago. They're on the 31st floor.
  4. The building has a pretty huge footprint, to say the least. I can attest to that since I saw the site a couple of times during the excavation process. For the sake of comparison, this structure compared with taller, but more compact sites. Hess Tower: 7,500 Cubic Yards poured MainPlace: 12,000 Cubic Yards poured MD Anderson ASB: 21,500 Cubic Yards poured Also, here's a distant photo I took a couple of days ago from the Chase Tower.
  5. Some updates since this hasn't been updated in a while... -The On the Border has become a Gringo's -Cracker Barrel will open November 2nd, according to their website. -Kroger Signature is slated to Open in December
  6. Here are a number of photos I took this morning... First steel components to help bridge the facade at a junction on the southwest side. If the renderings are correct, it should run up the height of the building and feed into an edge of the crown surrounding the turbines.
  7. Some photos from this morning, as they were pumping concrete on the 29th floor.
  8. It's a small office building, and there was a piece in the Houston Business Journal last month on it. http://houston.bizjournals.com/houston/stories/2009/09/21/story3.html
  9. Here are several photos I took Friday afternoon. They're currently between the 29th & 30th floors
  10. Since it is tied to the development at the Intermodal Center, here's a piece I missed on Nissan's involvement there. http://houston.bizjournals.com/houston/stories/2009/08/31/story5.html?q=Nissan%20Distribution%20Center
  11. Cherry was awarded the contract to demolish the building. http://www.khou.com/topstories/stories/khou090923_jj_houston-savoy-hotel-demolition.1ab787f66.html
  12. Here's a blog post from Haynes Whaley detailing the installation of the last part of the spire trio atop what they call the "tiara". The post should be checked for a few things, one of which is the figure given for the height. I'm pretty sure it should read 465'-6" instead of 565', since it's 476' to the top of St Luke's twin spires and it certainly isn't taller than that. http://hwablog.com/blog/2009/07/the-methodist-hospital-outpatient-care-center-completes-its-crown/
  13. That image from the aerial map is the 14-story Homewood Suites, which was finished in 2006. Not bad when you consider both went up around the same time (Courtyard was finished in 2007).
  14. Thanks for the new photos Jax, I haven't tried to shoot from that side in several months, so I've missed out on getting an extended look on the Main Street facade.
  15. Here's a portion of an article from about a month ago. I'm somewhat curious how such a system would serve the area, as well as the park and ride they intend to build for buses at the County Fairgrounds.
  16. Here are a few photos from yesterday afternoon. Can already see the cranes from a distance, can't wait until the building starts to make an impact in the same way. Bertner St. Expansion -Southbound Northbound
  17. Here are some photos from this afternoon, finishing up the 27th floor and already starting on part of the 28th. Garage Porte-cochere
  18. I heard there was a book or at least a few articles that chronicled the design competition. If either is true, does anyone know what they are or if they could be found? I know the structure is profiled in compilation books about several of the architects, but that's it. I've been thinking of compiling a bunch of the period articles together so people could have a better understanding of what exactly was going on during the time. Certainly one of the more interesting planning phases that I've seen, and just the fact that even when BOtSW fell through, the later owners of the land (Senterra) maintained that a highrise was still planned for the lot. Even if it was a lot of blown smoke, its still kinda hard to think it wound up as surface parking in that context.
  19. Here are a couple of photos of the upper floors from this week, shot from about three blocks to the northwest.
  20. Hey guys, haven't been around for a while, but here are a few photos from earlier this week. They're finishing off the 20th floor at the moment.
  21. Because they have yet to really even start, I'm guessing. Only Wednesday, around midday, did they begin to move the construction trailer onto the site. Looked like half of a double-wide, IIRC. So, I'd say they're still in the process of getting equipment to the lot.
