  1. You have a twisted view of how the world works. In fact those who own the corporations - PAY THE MOST TAXES.
  2. I don't think that it is much different. The walls are clad with small pieces of granite which are overlain by glass. The entire outside wall is glass with the granite behind. That is difficult to render in a drawing. Depending on the light you may not even see the underlying granite between the windows.
  3. Pittsburgh has City directories and more at:Pittsburgh Digital Collection
  4. Get over it already. Flying these days is no different than taking the bus. The "food" that was served was in so small portions and of such poor quality that it was nothing more than a diversion during the flight. Just get me to where I want to go as fast and as cheap as possible.
  5. I believe that the Pierce Junction Oilfield/Salt Dome was turned into the Wildcat Golf Course.
  6. I thought that the old Fire Alarm building was the building that went to Fertita in a "sweet deal" and then became the Aquarium. Then again further research suggests that you may be correct. The Aquarium was the main downtown fire station and headquarters which opened in 1968. In 1975 they opened a new fire alarm building across the street. According to Wiki.
  7. Yes that is it. I drive by it every day. No one is ever there but it seems odd that it does not show up in either the Harris county database or the city database.
  8. What is this building in downtown? Between the Aquarium and the Tennyson Hotel, at Bagby, Franklin and Preston streets. It is an ugly, apparently unused concrete bunker-like structure. It is not labeled in the HCAD or City of Houston databases. Damn I tried to insert a bing birds-eye picture but it won't take it.
  9. I agree - Houston grew the way that it did because there was/is almost no planning or control and the developers loved it that way. They still do. If you look at who the big movers and shakers of Houston were you will see most of the big developers. I remember a few years ago when the Zoning issue was last raised and one argument being made against zoning was that your taxes would go up. Well, of course they will go up because with zoning your property will be more valuable. But folks didn't want to have more valuable property they just wanted cheap. Same with rail. The developers fought tooth and nail against it because they wanted folks to stay in their cars and drive to all the damn strip malls that line every thoroughfare. The unbridled growth has resulted in cheap housing costs but also led to one of the ugliest cities around. The drive down 59 and 45 from IAH is an embarrassment when I have out of town guests. Just compare that drive to what you see in a planned and controlled area such as the Woodlands or Sugarland.
  10. Yeah, I do that some. I think that I will do that with everything. Or else cut down all the damn trees or just let the woods grow back. I would rather let the woods grow back since it kind of chaps my ass when folks buy homes in the woods and expect the yards to be kept like a golf course.
  11. This law only applies to City of Houston trash pick-up. My neighborhood uses a private hauler so we don't have to spend $1 a bag. It does not make much sense to pass this law without making it apply to everyone. But, I am glad since I can easily fill 12-15 bags a week with leaves during the leaf fall from Oct - Dec. That is about 100 bags. If I composted them it would fill up my yard.
  12. The financial dubiousness can be explained by one word - DEMOCRATS.
  13. They topped out yesterday. The tree is up. Check out the cam, yesterday (6 Mar 2010)at around noon. OxBlue Cam
  14. This morning, 18 Feb 2010, the parking areas at the corner of Dallas & Brazos, in front of the Heritage Plaza building were blocked off. During the morning and into the afternoon trucks full of movie equipment and dressing room trailers moved in. Anybody know what may be going on. Julia Roberts and George Clooney may show up.
  15. Gee, the place looks good to me. What am i missing?
  16. What is wrong with playing soccer in Reliant Stadium? A new stadium for soccer is waste.
  17. 1. Politicians will lie 2. More of America's youth will be needlessly killed in Afghaniland and Iraq 3. The Democrats will steal more of my money 4. The man on TV will remind me that a 4 hour boner is bad 5. The response time on HAIF will continue to get worse
  18. The Houston Zoo had an effort going back in the early 80's. I don't know what came of that effort, I guess that it didn't work out too well since they are trying again.
  19. I've had those whole roast baby Wilbur pigs in Spain and Chile. They are fabulous.
  20. Wow, that chop look pretty damn good. Nice and fatty. I bet the vegans will go batshit crazy over this place.
  21. Yep you are correct. They will refit the building rather than build new. See the link below. Houston Biz Journal -
  22. There are at least 3 new projects underway in the Washington - Police Station Area. They include: 1. Work on the large redbrick warehouse next (west) of the Amtrak station. A failed effort was made to "loft" this building. They have removed the windows and are demoing the interior. 2. Demo of the building at the "point" of Washington and Preston. 3. New construction in the area immediately west of the old Police Property warehouse. The design of the new property building looks like it should connect to a similar building on the site of the old warehouse. Does anyone know if there are plans to do just that. Anyone know what is going on here?
  23. I would have expected the building to be in the shape of a giant beating heart. They could make it expand and contract, have periodic heart attacks. Exposed plumbing could pulsate. It could have been awsome. It could have been a contender.
