  1. I have been to arts festivals in Denver, Pittsburgh, Washington DC, Boston, New York all were free. You seem to correct I just don't see how the city can get away with charging folks for access to public thouroughfares. Has anyone ever challenged this? A few years ago they had the library fenced off during the International Festival. We arrived and told the gate keeper we wanted to go to the library and they let us in free with no problem. Perhaps, those willing to pay they take the money from but if you want in without paying will they keep you out?
  2. Ina Young Nash's mother was Ann E. Compton. She was first married to Warren H. Madadue, on 28 Sep 1844 in Brazoria Co. TX. Warren died in early 1850, probate filed 9 Mar 1850. She had a daughter Leila Manadue. She then married Overton Young sometime before 1860. Leila Manadue, step-sister of Ina, married George E. Vallade in Harris Co. on 28 Sep 1871 Do you all give up or do you want more?
  3. the same thing is happening to a greater degree in Gaywood, on the south side of Memorial. Weekly has torn down more than a dozen houses and put up their Disneyland crap, ie, all fake materials, poor contruction, selling for $800-900K.

  10. Hey, what is it with Houston and downtown festivals where the city blocks off large portions of public streets and parks and then requires the public to pay for access. Major cities all over the country have public arts festivals and they are free. What do you think - Ripoff or public good?
  11. I pretty much agree with except how you characterize Crichton's novel. It is pure fiction, no fact, just like all his other novels. Oh, and another thing. Crichton testifying to Congress? That alone is a joke. Why not get Steven King to testify regarding the dangers of clowns, large dogs and old cars. It is a sad day when our so called leaders seek public policy guidance for ones who make a living in the world of fantasy. Well I guess that is where most leaders in Washington reside, fantasy land.
  12. I agree with the styrofoam bullcrap. Just like Disney Land. David Weekly is doing the same thing in my neighborhood. Teardown the 1950-60s houses and but up these crappy houses built with made-up studs, OSB, fake stone and Styrofoam dodads. Then they put a $1MM pricetag on it AND IDIOTS BUY THEM. Jeez
  13. Oh, that must be Vince Kickarillo delivering a new diamond for his wife.
  14. I agree. Houston is one of the dirtiest major cities that I have ever seen. Even New York is cleaner. However, trash cans are rare in downtown. Some bus stops have them but otherwise there are not many.
  15. Well, if Houston developers put shops and stores on the ground floors of the office buildings, with street access, there would be no need for so many paper boxes. Seems to me they should work on getting the bums off of the street.
  16. No rage here. Just pointing out the obvious. So called development in Houston is driven by commercial deals. Such as the crap put up by Fertita. Face it, tying to pretty up Buffalo Bayou is a loosing proposition. Houstonians seem to be drawn bright lights and bull*hit and Fertita seems to use alot of both.
  17. Why don't we just get Tilman Fertita to build one of his damn Disneyland riverwalks. We can then charge folks $50 to walk around and look at the water.
  18. I visited one of those houses several years ago. I do not remember which one. But the owner told a great story how they were renovating the basement, Yes it had a basement in Houston, and they found bricked up wall which should not have been there. They took it down and found a room full of old slot machines!
  19. todays Business section illustrates how crappy the Chron is. The main story is about Tilman Fertitta's restaurants and hurricane Rita. Who cares about him. With all of the local businesses devestated by the two storms they do a lead story on a crook who suffered very little. They even got the caption to one of the pic wrong, where they say his restaurant in Biloxi MS was destroyed by Rita - wrong it was Katrina. Thye can't even get the story correct when they are in the middle of it.
  20. Tear it down an build a strip mall in typical Houston tradition.
  21. Houston Chron is a joke. The news that they print only serves to separate the Foley ads form the Palais Royal ads. The news items themselves come from other newspapers. I don't even bother to waste my money on it. They keep dumping free ones in my yard and they go straight to the trash. It is a disgrace that the 4th largest city in this county has such a crappy paper.
  22. YES, Couldn't have happened to a better guy. I hope the SOB goes to jail where he belongs.
  23. The best place was Kiddie Wonderland on Kirby. Man those horses were a million years old but they sure were a good time.
