  1. Man monarch is a strange, strange bird. No idea what's running through dude's cranium.

  2. I wouldn't be concerned with New Orleans having a Hotel Alessandra. It's one of 5 bids and the renovated WTC could easily become a Hilton Conrad, Godfrey, Andaz, or Four Season's branded hotel As for whom would have the better Hotel Alessandra - remember that the Houston-version will have a glass retractable-roof sky lobby with a jazz bar over looking a pool ...all located 25 stories up amongst a skyline view that New Orleans does not have, nor will it have these amenities. If somehow the Woodbine/Monday/Alessandra bid won, it would be New Orleans that is envious of our Alessandra.

  3. Monarch!!! you had to say all of that? Just for your only point (which is moot btw) to be that you're just mad that there's going to be a 2nd holel in NOLA? You could've said that in three sentences.

  4. And decidedly targeted to folks in an age demographic in which I am no longer in.

  5. We are not in a position to compete with New Orleans in luxury hospitality. If both of these happen, we should be happy at having the first Alessandra.

  6. I just like how people in Chron's comment section just can't possibly fathom that this project is going to be mostly if not entirely privately funded lol. I actually highly doubt this project will get state funding as the conservative government wouldn't dare do so. What will most likely happen is that as the project gets closer to construction the state gov. might provide help in the form of subsides. If this project is successful I can imagine that there would be a form of government subsidy granted to people who will see rail go through their land as a form of compensation.

  9. I have to agree with Utterly Urban. With a few brief exceptions here and there, I've worked downtown pretty much continuously since the late '70s. Back then, you just did not park east of Caroline after dark, unless you were going to Liberty Hall. It wasn't panhandling that was the concern, it was getting mugged. Having more and more people out and about has helped make things much safer, as has a larger and more visible police presence. No, I'm not going to leave anything visible in my parked car downtown (a rule I also follow pretty much everywhere, including in my own dang driveway), and I'm not going to park in a dark, secluded place at night (nor would I do so at the suburban mall/shopping center of your choice), but all in all, downtown's tons better than it used to be.

  10. Lived here fora year. Traveled here 3 weeks per month for 4 years before that. Traveled here 10 times per year for 8 years before that. Lived in the Houston MSA for 10 years before that. Have only seen a decline in the street population during that time. I recognize that it exists but it is less troublesome, in my opinion, than 25 years ago.

  11. A very cool, boutique hotel is almost it's only hope. Hotel Alassandra sounds like a likely and good fit. A strengthening of the brand can only help a houston property. Drink your juice Monarch. It's all going to be okay. Sh sh shhhh.

  12. You do realize the WTC in NOLA already exists and looks like complete ass.. They've been trying to redevelop it for a while I believe.

  15. There are land bridges, well actually under passes all over Texas for wildlife and livestock to cross under highways. There are several on US 77 and 281 where the highway cuts through the King and Yturria ranches.

  17. This is a close-up of the retail sales brochure for Frank's Pizza Tower. Notice the pocket park extending to Main (very cool). Do you think that the Barringer Building (Clutch City Square) is not shown because of the height of the State National Building, or is this notice that they plan to tear it down?
