rode my bike from my galleria condo to discovery green saturday (thats HUGE for me btw seeing that i ride my bike once a month...to a park just to lay down in the grass haha! )...anyway...saw that Bud's Pitmaster BBQ still has its Super Bowl Preview signs up with no work going on inside and looks like nothing has been done since it was open for those "Preview" nights...any word on what's going on with that place? and ps...with the Bassmaster Classic Outdoor Expo going on with other events as well it seemed, it was so nice to see everyone out and about enjoying Discovery Green and Avenida Houston! Because of my adventure i also got to finally experience Buffalo Bayou paths on my bike which was so awesome...hope to do that alot more! Love our city so darn much!13 points

Kudos Houston First. Went to Biggio's on he second floor patio we met people from Nashville. They said everything was beautiful. They loved the pool at the Marriott. So we took them to Ninfas! We had so much fun!9 points

A bit harsh! It's better than 1000 Main or Calpine Center, which are squattier, more budget-minded towers with a lower degree of finish and detail. I would compare it more with some of the early Houston Center towers, 1100 Louisiana, or Tenneco. Tenneco might be the best comparison since it was also designed by a respected national firm in the business of making crisp, understated towers that stand the test of time.3 points

They might even follow Heritage Plazas lead and design a garage that would eventually be structurally capable of handling a skyscraper. My source said they could possibly look at that plan for a short term money making solution. He wasn't sure about it but it has been discussed. This is across the street from Hines, Texas Commerce/Chase building, so it will be interesting to see how they respond to the tallest building in Houston. The juxtaposition of two supertalls would create an interesting mass. It would also put a lot of people on the streets in a two block area. Fortunately the parking for Chase is on the Main street side so the cars wouldn't all be emptying on to the same streets.3 points

Another piece of that puzzle is the existing Chronicle garage (across Prairie from 717 Texas) that Hines purchased along with the Chronicle building block. It could get garagier is needs arose.2 points

He will when the market is right. Very smart man and look what he did for Houston. His son will live his legacy.1 point

They covered up the windows and put up a permit, I guess they are starting to build out the Kulture restaurant.1 point

The tower crane set up last weekend is building the second tower crane albeit in smaller pieces at a time. It will be a flat top tower crane. Next weekend they will use an AT crane in the street to build the third tower crane which will be located inside a hole in the existing parking garage where a tower base is already located. Again two different sets of workers I talked with today confirmed the office tower is going up. A little fuzzy.... Concrete counterweights being unloaded.1 point

It was constructed for the Tennessee Centennial and International Exposition (a.k.a. a giant State Fair) celebrating 100 years of Tennessee in the Union.1 point

They are now tearing down the buildings in the block described in my previous post. Phase 3 coming soon? I'll try to snag a pic.1 point

This is an example of how Houston has invested in its people by re developing it's green spaces to which it gets back it's investment with developments like these popping up. We Houstonians know how great this area is and it's potential. Well outsiders now see what we see.1 point

I got to see the renderings today...and what I can describe is a 38-40 story building, and 3 other shorter towers ranging between 10-15 stories. From what you saw from previous renderings, the buildings look nothing like that. I would say the main tower is also within the 450-475ft range based on what I saw. There is a lot of glass and it is a very sleek, modern looking building. That's all I can say...there's also this little sky bridge that goes over Allen Pkwy to the park.1 point

It is too bad, because i am sure the menil +hines combo has some great potential. The upside is that when things rebound, hopefully projects like this will be quicker to come into fruition.1 point
-
In my conversations with the Menil they have put that phase of the project on hold for a while. They had planned on a mixed use development with Hines but that fell through last year and so they felt they at least needed to clear the grounds around the new drawing center and make the area a temporary park space to eventually be developed. This was a casualty of the oil bust and the overdevelopment of new residential in the montrose and midtown area.1 point

Also they are replacing a surface lot so the laws of conservation of parking in Houston demand that parking may never be destroyed, only conserved or created.1 point
