corbs315
what's all this then?
cspwal
Looks like currently there is an office-over-parking buidling, with a parking lot across Fannin. So this won't be replacing a vacant lot, but it will be more activity on Fannin which will be nice
HoustonIsHome
It's not an ugly building but my midtown fantasy is for Midtown to be Houston's version of Barcelona's Eixample. http://www.ainb.net/blog/eixample-barcelona/ Just a see of mainly midrises. Mainly residential, very eclectic. Mid Main, Match etc is on the right track, but man new buildings like those two CVS buildings are just blows to my dream.

This is the former Midtown Spa. The building was windowless, so holes have been cut through the exterior walls to provide them. It also contained a large swimming pool, which I assume has been decommissioned.
hindesky
I applaud Braun for renovating old buildings instead of tearing down, I wish we had more developers who did this. Northern portion. The Verizon store was already open.
_nataliepw
Saw a “For Sale” sign outside of the Valero station at the corner of Elgin and Main St, next to 3100 Fannin redevelopment. Everybody might make a non-violent mistake once and I would also make all burglaries a felony. A second conviction for a non-violent felony means a prison farm for 30-years with an option for parole after 20. Bye bye, society is done with you. Go grow some carrots. If the objective is to strongly discourage B&E/burglary/theft, the DA should hold a press conference and announce that henceforth a homeowner or business owner who shoots an individual caught in the act of burglary will automatically be no-billed. Naviguessor
Wow. Can you imagine the size of the prisons, the size of the population inside those prisons and freaking amount of money that it'd cost to do to maintain them? Not to mention the quality of those coming out the other end, and how many they would be.

Seemingly, the only other choice to mine, other than the status quo (which to me is unacceptable) is the choice written by Mkultra above. And that is equally unacceptable to me. The right of the people (including businesses) to protect their property needs to win the day. With my plan, Addicts get ONE chance at fixing themselves at taxpayer expense. A deep, intensive rehab program to get them straight, sober, and working members of society. If they fail at that, Thereafter, the taxpayer can build some tents and a fenced farm and the addicts can hoe carrots for 30 years.

DA can't no-bill anyone, that's the job of the Grand Jury. All homicides(which means any killing of a person, including justified incidents) must be presented to a Grand Jury in Texas. It's already legal to use deadly force to protect your property, and during the hours of darkness, you can use deadly force to stop criminal mischief, which includes things like stealing hubcaps. Burglary of any building is a felony, the type of building varies the level of felony.
j_cuevas713
I swear if this city doesn't get this mess in Midtown under control I'm going to lose my mind. I recently got in to it with a homeless man in the area because I didn't want to give him money. Long story short I told him to go **** himself.
