Mapojeong Restaurant At 602 Studewood St.

Hopefully, they won't be repurposing THAT part of the Conoco.

That's why I liked Beer Island better. Knifing a guy is more old school than taking a guy out with a gun. Lazy man's murder weapon. This is the historic Heights after all. We don't do things just because it's easy.

I suppose bludgeoning with a club would be okay right? Also across from this there wasn't there a lady who pulled a gun on people for parking infront of her house or something?

I know this happened on 10 1/2. It was an African American couple parked on the street. The wife was walking up to Davis Hardware to get her check and her husband was parked under a tree. A woman came out of her house, pointed a shot gun at him, and yelled a bunch of racist epithets and threats.

That sounds like a good case of terroristic threats. Or, a good way for her to get shot. You do not point a firearm at someone who is legally on the street.

I remember that. I believe that initially she was charged with aggravated assault. She lived somewhat behind Berryhill and was supposedly tired of people parking in front of her house.

That just shows how wimpy the Heights gets the further north you go. On 10 1/2 Street, they point guns and yell epithets. On 6th Street, they shoot you or knife you or break out every window in your bar (gang fight at 6th Street Bar & Grill). By the time you get to 14th or 15th, they just put rocks on the grass and complain about it on internet forums. On 18th, they invite you to park on the lawn and bring you lemonade.

moo.  Name is pretty bad, but at least they didn't do one of those douchy plus sign ("+") names.  Could have easily been "Ritual Taproom + Kitchen".

considering the sign is not up yet, there is always a chance.

Ate here on Saturday. They're taking the sourcing very seriously, and have an onsite dry aging program. They appear to be doing (at least some of) their own butchering onsite as well.

Beer program is impressive; wines BTG a little less so.

The menu is very... masculine.

The El Cantina Superior is open.  Have not been.  Heard typical soft opening stories.  Some things are great.  Service extremely slow.  Some things are terrible.

Meanwhile, the El Cantina Superior is getting slaughtered on Yelp and other forums.  It is still very early, but people have told some pretty terrible tales of food and service in the early days of the restaurant.

Unfortunately I can confirm that the service and food are severely sub-par at The El.  The atmosphere is wonderful, and my wife and I had been looking forward to trying the restaurant during this "soft opening" process.  However, bland/overcooked food, poor drinks, and slow service are hard to overlook.  On Nextdoor, experiences have ranged from similar complaints to ours to food poisoning for an entire family.

Hopefully things will change, but that is going to have to include some significant changes in staff and in the kitchen.

The Heights restaurateur I know told me his clients have said the same thing.  Doing Mexican food in this town is really competitive.  There are too many choices in Houston and even close to the Heights for good established Mexican food joints.

So when you say it "is done", you mean closed for good? Or just until they fix issues (ie- utilities, service, food quality, etc)?

Restaurant Death Watch Reprieve:  The El reopened on Wednesday.  Not enough time to do a total revamp, but maybe to think about addressing issues listed on Yelp, Reddit, Google, and the Houston Press.  They did seek outside expertise but no deal was executed AFAIK but maybe they will implement the free advice given.  Or maybe not.

That's weird, he did offer average Tex-Mex!

If it were average Tex-Mex, life would have been fine.  Unfortunately, it was at Maggie Rita's / Pancho's level, if that.

Manky fish tacos are not part of "average."

Meanwhile, the El Cantina Superior remains shuttered. Their site promises a "Relaunch" but there has been no sign of work.  (I think a Brewpub was mentioned.)  Too bad.  The location is great & they put a lot of work into the place. But, except for the period when the Liberty Kitchen people had their hands in, their Tex-Mex was definitely sub-par......

Heights' El Cantina Site Won't be a Brewpub After All

Plans for the shuttered El Cantina Superior site near the White Oak dining and entertainment area have changed again. Rather than a brewpub that makes beer on site, the Heights space now is slated to open in mid-March as a casual restaurant called Ritual with an in-house butchershop and an "extensive" craft-beer lineup.

A post pertaining to 602 Studewood from an unrelated topic. The post is about Delicious Concepts closing Ritual to open Mapojeong, a Korean barbecue restaurant.

Goodbye Ritual, Hello Korean Barbecue

DELICIOUS CONCEPTS ON TUESDAY ANNOUNCED that Ritual will end its run at 602 Studewood after Sunday service. But the space won’t be dormant for long—the company will unveil a new concept, Mapojeong Galbijib, in its place around the end of May.

Mapojeong Galbijib is a Korean barbecue concept with table-side grilling service. It aims to feature only Prime proteins with an in-house dry aging program, along with house-made kimchi and banchan.

“We wanted to create a guest experience that blends the best of my travels to Seoul and my time growing up in L.A.’s Koreatown with a modern attitude and approach,” said Bridge in a press release.

Since 2016, Ritual has deftly produced Southern comfort fare inside very trendy environs.

According to posters located in an adjoining space next to Mapojeong, a new dessert concept is coming soon.

The dessert concept is possibly named Bbo Bbo Taiyaki. Going off the posters, it appears the shop will specialize in taiyaki filled with soft serve.

The Bbo Bbo Taiyaki posters at 602 Studewood have been up for months. Does anyone have any insight regarding this?

Below is a photo of the Bbo Bbo Taiyaki posters at 602 Studewood. The photo was shared in an Instagram story earlier this week by BuiltNearby.

This was initially posted in an unrelated topic. I'm reposting it here since this pertains to 602 Studewood.

Someone on Reddit posted a photo of a lockout notice at Mapojeong. The post circulated on social media, making its way to a popular Facebook group.

Located at 602 Studewood, the Korean barbecue restaurant is from Delicious Concepts.
