kylejack
The Blair House Apartments on Academy are to be redeveloped with a 269 unit, 4 story, high density apartment complex with a 5 story parking garage. The developer is Koontz and McCombs. The residences behind the proposed development, that reside in the city of Houston, are up in arms. I don't blame them, all of a sudden, their back yards lost all their privacy.Heh, sorry suckers, only former Presidents get to shut down such things for "security concerns", heh. Dan the Man
I'm amazed that Blair House is still there. Most of the other complexes on Academy have already been demolished.

texas911
Yup those are the ones. The Blair House is the last of the lower income apartments in that area. At first I'm sure everybody was for its destruction. Only problem is that the property value is so high that the only way to recoup the investment is to build high density apartments. They have built a similar development down just further south on Stella Link and N. Braeswood.

houstontexasjack
I feel like Agent Smith from The Matrix Reloaded: "More....". I would be disappointed to lose the Palace Lanes to a Trader Joes though (if there is substance to that part of the Swamplot article).

Specwriter
I was distressed to see that the B-EP was going away but much more upset to learn that Palace Lanes would also be no more.
alternativemike
Can we please finally address evaluating the options of an overpass/underpass of the railroad tracks that cross Bellaire just down the block from this site? I can tell you getting stuck by 1-2 passing trains at a time at different hours of the day (including rush hour) sucks and causes major backups up and down the street as a result. We live in the middle of a growing city that is continuing to add more density and people to the middle of the city. Having freight tracks intersecting many major thoroughfares (Beechnut, Bellaire, Bissonnet, Richmond, Westheimer) right though the middle of the city must be costing much more than just a few headaches from drivers in traffic - there must be some severe railroad schedule limitations for freight moving through that corridor as well. toxtethogrady
HBJ describes this as being near Rice University. It will cost about $49 million for the 269 units in the complex. Maybe one of our developer lurkers can tell us how big a building you get for $49 million. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/morning_call/2015/01/more-inner-loop-luxury-apartments-planned.html
