Also the vinegar salsa is my love jones. I have a hard time convincing others that it's good though. It tastes like Taco Bell fire sauce and its awesome.

Speaking of Taco Bell...I lived in Atlanta during the '90s and the best Mexican restaurant there during that time was...Taco Bell. Yeah...the others there were that bad. 1 1

Yeah...the others there were that bad. That's more common than you'd think in parts of the country that aren't accustomed to having a plethora of very good Mexican restaurants to choose from. When I was in college, I had a classmate that had grown up on the East Coast, and her frame of reference for Mexican restaurants was Taco Bell, because that was pretty much all there was to choose from where she was from. She was pretty amazed by what was available in Houston when she got here, and that was 30+ years ago. It's only gotten better since then.
gene
I am not sure about being the best...but FYI the new Flagship Los Tios in Uptown on San Felipe (Randall's plaza near Post Oak Blvd) opens Monday Aug 26th! https://houston.eater.com/2019/8/23/20828751/los-tios-flagship-opening-tanglewood-august-2019
Highrise Tower
I’ve noticed Mole enchiladas don’t come with queso on top. Maybe a new dish could blend the two. Smokey queso mole
mollusk
Cotija works pretty well - it's a crumbly hard white cheese. Try the mole enchiladas at La Mexicana - they come with cotija. Edited January 1, 2020 by mollusk

Highrise Tower
Anyone ever had Xochi near Discovery Green? Every time I'm there it smells delish! It's a Oaxacan restaurant.
Highrise Tower
Molina's Cantina in Bellaire has a new house salsa! Made with chile de árbol I believe. Sooo good! Their other red salsa is also unique since it has a strong vinegar taste.
