It's interesting that Mr. Diaz wants to expand IAH operations into Africa yet I just found out from a buddy who works at United that they cut the Houston-Lagos, Nigeria route on June 30th. We are no longer an airport that services all inhabitable continents. :(

Lagos is a hot mess right now. Think Caracas. Their currency has fallen off a cliff so the government their froze foreign exchanges leaving the airlines owed over $600 million dollars. United and Iberia have already left the market. Others have lowered the number of flights or seats offered to the market. Even British Air, which has served the country for over 80 years going back to colonial days, is hinting at exited the market.

There's the whole revival of the Biafra separatism issue along with the ongoing Boko Haram and associated Sahel extremism. Nigeria is going to be a mess for a while, possibly a decade or more.

Architect for new Terminal D to be hired by the end of the fall. Does that mean previous renders were just placeholders and project's design may change with architect hired?

Construction by Late 2017

Didn't see a thread for Terminal A.

Once terminals C and D are completed, the airport will shift its focus to terminals A and B, he said.

“We’re in the planning stages of a complete remodel of Terminal A, and also we’re working with United Airlines on two more concourses for Terminal B, which will replace the last boarding gates [at the airport that were constructed in] the 1960s,” Simmons said.

"Planning Stage" means another 10 years before seeing a dozer on site. Same as Terminal D, IAH needs to attract more domestic airlines and routes to push Terminal A rebuilding ahead…

How do you mean it is the same as Terminal D?  Are you saying it will be 10 years before "seeing a dozer on site" for the Terminal D rebuild?

What I was saying is Terminal D project is pushed ahead fast due to high demand from United and foreign airlines... Same for Terminal A. Demand drives everything.

I'm surprised we haven't seen any more foreign flags announced at Bush. I think the last one was Air New Zealand and that's been a year and a half ago. There for a while we were getting one every three months it seemed like.

Could have the same reason as the lack of recent postings in the "when will the boom end" thread.

Yeah, this is actually a downgrade, despite the way the Chronicle is framing it. Was year-round, now is summer only.

"...the Chronicle is framing it..."  That's funny stuff right there.  The Chronicle merely parroted United's press release.  (and only a week after every other publication covered this news.)

That would be awesome! With Air India being part of Star Alliance, I bet Houston wins the duel between us and Dallas. It'll be nice to have another big bird landing at IAH. Looks like they operate a lot of triple 7's on their international flights but they also still utilize the 47-4 and the 87. Would be cool to have more 47-4 service at IAH, too.

The article is confusing. The title seems definitive that Houston and Los Angeles were selected for service but in the body of the article it says it's between Houston and Dallas. Which is it?

Air India is apparently putting Houston back on the table for expansion after announcing an anticipated launch date for LAX:

Air India is a mess and the Indian government is trying to sell it, but analysts say it will difficult to privatize due to all its troubles.

So I would be cautious about being excited about the possibility for new service.

According to wikipedia Korean Airlines will be ending service to Seoul October 13th. Is this true? It's the first I hear of it and seems very sudden.

This is from Routes on line.

Korean Air in recent schedule and inventory update adjusted planned Seoul Incheon – Houston route, with last flight scheduled on 10OCT17. Despite schedule listing shows service to resume from 29OCT17, reservation for this 3 weekly is closed on/after this date.

Previously planned schedule during winter season (05NOV17 – 09MAR18) as follow.

Yup.

Well, when the route was announced back in 2014, it was kind of sudden then too. Only fitting that it ends suddenly. Kudos to Korean Air for having the Houston route as long as they did. Right after they announced the route, United announced double daily service to Tokyo. Then Eva Air and ANA entered the Houston market. Also, without an alliance hub in Houston, Korean Air could only rely on local traffic, which is not that much between Houston and Korea.

As you enter IAH from JFK blvd, you'll notice all the signs along the left side of the road directing you to the one of the terminals based on your airline. I noticed yesterday that there is another Terminal D airlines sign that is up (and blank) but I assume they are anticipating more foreign flags soon. Any word on anything heading our way this year?
