  1. It sold September 9, 2011. No listings available on Sawbuck or NuHabitat but HAR set the range at $552,001-$627,000. ETA: The buyer also bought another property from the same seller earlier this year (maybe they're family).
  2. Looks like Weingarten's and Lang's Pharmacy (1963 directory) - I believe it was built in the early sixties so those are probably the firsts..
  3. The County Clerk database can work but it can be clunky - like mentioned above, you can find the earliest owner on HCAD then retro search grantor/grantees and if it's a common name and you get lots of hits, you can use the "Subdivision/Description" field for the neighborhood name (HCAD's "legal description." The older the record, though, the less uniform the entry (names and subdivisions). City directories will show tenants which could help, too. I have 1963 and 1976 directories handy - if you PM the address I can give you the information..
  4. I hate to say it, but it's about time. I guess Smith finally gave in!
  5. Note merged topics.. @NenaE - it looked like the rock facade led down to planters along the bottom.
  6. Yep: http://www.click2houston.com/news/Doggie-door-burglary-suspect-arrested/-/1735978/8628748/-/qi6dj/-/index.html
  7. Neat...especially with the BCM/Medical Towers building in the background!
  8. Suspect arrested in 'doggie door' burglaries in Montrose area http://abclocal.go.c...article-8521904
  9. May or may not not be the guy but someone was picked up today: http://www.facebook....332786450094286
  10. ^I agree about the grill - looks like a persnickety mustache...
  11. Here are photos/video of Prudentia demolition from chron.com - time to move this building's page to the "demolished" category http://blog.chron.com/newswatch/2012/01/prudential-building-in-houston-destroyed/
  12. I don't know if I can even watch the live stream - after going over the maps and thinking about it (too much?) I decided I'm going to go with what I've got - pictures of it as it was. Not only does the crew really want people away, I also don't need that sinking feeling I always get - there's just no (more) thrill in seeing a building getting massacred..
  13. I really liked Cabo (bad service and all) and El Rey - I'm surprised at least one (El Rey) couldn't hang around. I hope something with a similar cuisine replaces one..
  14. Just an update - I came across some ads I saved from a while back of Bemis Bag/Texas Bag & Fibre Co. (what the building was pre HISD/Saint Arnold) and a picture of the old building: more: http://www.arch-ive.org/bemis.php
  15. Thanks for all the pictures - was the snow from a Cougar promo event? I'm sometimes at UH after work and I'm amazed at all that's going on - it's been about a decade since I left working/going to school there and it's a different world.
  16. At the bottom of the following page there are clickable letters that correspond to the first letter of the name of the area - then there will be a drop-down list of all names for that letter. Sometimes the query only returns one image but if you manually change the last number in the image URL sequentially (either higher or lower) you can sometimes "browse" more. http://www.hctax.net/Property/blockbooks/default.aspx
  17. It looks like in 1973/74 it became "Wolfwood" and this one was 415 Strey Ln. - it was originally owned by Joseph A. Wolf who created the small subdivision. It's the "existing house" on the block book: http://books.tax.hct..._106-2_0117.jpg and originally part of the JD Taylor survey: http://books.tax.hct...7_41-2_0132.jpg
  18. Your pictures can be uploaded - if you're in the full reply window (click on "more options" next to the "post" button in the quick reply window) click on the "Choose File" button to select them from your computer and then attach them. Otherwise the images need to be hosted somewhere to get a URL (like tinypic, photobucket). I thought we had a FAQ about this but I can't find anything either! If we really don't, we'll make one..
  19. There are quite a few permits for buildouts/remodels from October like this one: Date : 2011/10/06 00:00:00 USE : HI RISE CONDO BUILDOUTS UNITS 1701 THRU Owner/Occupant : *M D A HOLDINGS Job Address : 2727 KIRBY DR FL 17 77098 FCC Group : Residential Alteration Buyer : *MDA BUILDERS
  20. Like 57Tbird mentioned, the one at Kirby/Kelving was Glennlee - more here: http://www.arch-ive.org/glennlee.php
  21. Could you give the closest intersection of the school you mentioned?
