  1. Thanks! Contributions have slowly died down at westburysquare.net so it's nice to see more!
  2. Thanks for the update - not bad but totally unrecognizable! Thanks! Hard to imagine it's been that long...!
  3. Thanks for posting these (and they'll be great years ahead when things change in the area)
  4. Here are some pictures of it before and right after the start of the renovations: http://arch-ive.org/archive/2403-bagby/
  5. I was going through old pictures to post and looking up this thread for information - that totally could have been me (though I was only out there for a second or two!)
  6. I forgot that way back when I made a quick reconstruction of the neighborhood from the block book maps - it would have been larger than this (it extended about twelve blocks more north). Also, I don't know if it was mentioned before, but one of the streets heading north from the ovals was named "Park View" so it's pretty safe to say it was some sort of elaborate park. http://www.arch-ive.org/houston/brunsville/brunsville_reconstruction.jpg
  7. Here's a better link for the above: http://www.cohtora.houstontx.gov/ibi_html/sldpmtsl.htm I think it may only work with older versions of IE (I've tried the latest IE, Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Midori).
  8. houstonpermits.org - but I can only get it to work with certain browsers (IE)
  9. Thanks! I have group coverage now (I only needed it for a few months) but this is a good thing to keep handy just in case!
  10. I think the pre-existing conditions part rolls out next year - I was unable to buy health insurance from anyone recently.
  11. Interesting - that one was left on its own when the beltway was built. The lined rows across the beltway aren't as easy to make out where it is still wooded. From the 1944 aerial:
  12. Exactly. The guy had a "story" up about it way before contacting me. There are tons of errors in it and it got buried as soon as it was posted!
  13. Shameless plug - some of my stuff picked up by the Daily Mail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2245924/The-moment-historic-hotel-Houston-demolished-make-room-upscale-apartments.html
  14. I was in a row of tripods on the sidewalk behind at to the left of the police car that was stationed in the parking lot.. OH, and the Chronicle was filming behind us so I'm on their video
  15. I went by Preston/Crawford the other night and the view from the street is good - however close to that as possible is where I'll be. I'll probably wear the grey building (profile icon) shirt just for fun.
  16. More information here: http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/120-ben-milam-hotel-constructiondemolitionrehab/page__st__90
  17. I know there will be a few of us - I haven't heard anything about perimeters but if anyone wants to meet up I was thinking La Branch/Preston area would be decent since it's just a parking lot in between (or however close to that as possible)..
  18. Ah I missed it - implosion on Dec. 9th edit - thanks!
  19. Last time I checked it was all hollowed out on the inside (slowly cleaned out over the last 10 years I've been checking). I hope it doesn't go down as slowly and as painfully as its neighbor William Penn did..
  20. Thanks, Ricco. I can't believe it's actually happening after all these years..
  21. Pan African Church on MLK near Albermarle uses the old South Park Bowling building On Luell just east of Jensen there's a (vacant?) building that was Luell Bowling Lanes (right next door to the Centre Theater) The Christian Assembly building on S Post Oak near Willow was Post Oak Lanes The bar on Lawndale near 75th (El Portal Disco?) was Lawndale Bowling Center The medical offices at 7015 Almeda (just south of OST) was apparently MacGregor Bowling but you can't tell I *think* the old Ayala Tortillas on Fulton @ Woodard was Lindale Bowling Center Also, Clear Lake Lanes on Diana Ln. recently closed up shop
  22. Are you mainly looking for bowling alleys that are open as something else now? I have found a couple on HCAD that are still under the "bowling alley" building use code (8306) but I can run a check on some directories soon. Most I know of off the top of my head are not inside the loop like Bellfort Lanes (http://arch-ive.org/...bellfort-lanes/) and Meadowcreek Bowling Alley on Richey:
  23. This gave me a reason to test out a quick slider tool - 1915 topo/current Bertner location: http://www.arch-ive....ou_bertner.html 1944 (1953?)/current Mills Park location (realignment was already well underway): http://www.arch-ive...._millspark.html 1944 (1953?)/current east of Scott location (old alignments on north and south sides of the bayou): http://www.arch-ive...._macgregor.html
