I worked there during the WB years and this was a nice catch-up. Thanks!

There's a KHTV 39 Houston FB page run by Ron Jackson that has lots of old photos.

I'm setting up a private KHWB-TV Houston page that'll have photos with some of the stories connected with them. I made friends there that are friends to this day.

    Now that's nice!

  2. Fox 26 5:00 PM Anchor Rashi Vats has been working her way through the Lone Star State's TV markets  & Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com has a list of achievements on Vats' journalism career over the years:

She's also married to CBS 11 KHOU-TV Houston Sports Reporter Daniel Gotera as well as a graduate of Texas Christian University.

This photo was used for Zillow's 2020 Urban-Suburban Market Report from last month. I initally saw it on my phone and could pick downtown out but kept thinking that couldn't be Uptown... and I was right when I actually saw the photo at full size. TMC does pack a punch, of course.

Isn't Uptown basically the Galleria Area ?

  5. Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com is reporting that after 22 years with the ABC O&O Station, sports anchor Bob Slovak (whom I strongly felt was wrongly passed over for the Sports Director job a few years back) is leaving Ch. 13 KTRK-TV Houston's sports department after more than two decades.  Slovak joined Ch. 13 in 1998 as the sports reporter alongside longtime Houston sports anchors Tim Melton & the late Bob Allen. In 2013, when Melton suffered a stroke & had to retire from the TV biz, Slovak moved from sports reporter to weekend sports anchor.

Before coming to Ch. 13, Slovak worked at KNXV-TV Phoenix, AZ, KOTV-TV Tulsa, OK, KFDM-TV Beaumont, TX  & KTEN-TV Ada, OK. Native of Dallas, Slovak graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. Slovak's final day with Ch. 13 is going to be in a few weeks, so stay tuned for when that occurs.

Thanks for posting and exposing Louis Geigerman. I've been following and reading about special educational matters for the longest time, and this Geigerman fella truly is a piece of work. He tried to open his own charter school once, but then realized how hard it is to actually run a school, so he easily gave up on that endeavor.  He obviously bit off more than he could chew and then tucked his tail and ran off. I guess he feels more comfortable critiquing from the sidelines of his own sanctimony because he realized how truly inadequate he is as a catalyst for the betterment of society's children. Everything I've read about him (and most advocates in Texas for that matter like Pat Freeze, Shemica Allen, Lisa Carelli-Lang, and Karen Mayer Cunningham) shows all they do is really just for theatrics to impress upon uninformed (or in Tianna's case, emotionally unstable) parents, but there is no true meaningful outcome their actions bring to helping children. Any apparent "good" they do is unfortunately cancelled out by the needless bureaucracy they put in, harassment of staff members, as well as the taxing of already thin school resources. Good educators, diagnosticians, teachers, LSSPs, administrators, and therapists end up leaving the field as a result, causing a feedback loop to supply their own demand.

For further reference, there was a Texas House Bill 1669 which would allow schools to be reimbursed for legal fees if they win a due process case. I absolutely cannot fathom why anyone committed to justice and fairness would be against this. But of course the outrage king Louis Geigerman was adamantly against this, obviously because a measure like that would level the playing field against fiends like Louis and his NARDA-kin. Essentially, a law like that would help schools and children, but would be bad for Louis's advocate business.

As Upton Sinclair once said “It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it”. In Louie’s case, he not only created a box he could crawl in and shield himself from reality, but Louis also curls into a fetal position on the floor, covers his ears and prays for the rest of the world to go away.

Assuming the proposed statewide takeover of HISD is off the table for the moment ?

  8. Beloved Ch. 13 reporter Deborah Wrigley is leaving the ABC O&O Station on September 4th according to Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com & other social media.

"Deborah is an icon of broadcasting & a true journalist Houstonians will always remember," News Director Rehan Aslam said in an internal memo obtained by mikemcguff.com. "We wanted to thank Deborah for her countless stories that made such an impact on thousands & thousands of people. She served our city & our communities with grace & professionalism." The memo said Wrigley started with the station 42 years ago.

Let me know your thoughts on Wrigley's legacy with Ch. 13 & how she'll be remembered.
