  1. In a move that surprised some but didn't with others, HPD Police Chief Art Acevedo recently announced he was leaving the Space City for South Beach & becoming the new police chief of the Miami PD in Miami, FL.

In his last press conference, he also got into another testy exchange with NBC 2 KPRC-TV Houston reporter Mario Diaz.

Texas Monthly had an article detailing how Acevedo managed to piss off everybody.

Give me your thoughts on Acevedo's tenure as HPD Police Chief & how he'll be remembered ?

Yesterday inside Houston City Hall: Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner (D) announced Troy Finner would become the new HPD Police Chief replacing Acevedo.

When I heard the board wasn't giving her the job, and was resuming its search for outside candidates, but that she was "welcome to apply for the position," I took that to mean her chances of getting the job were slim to none. Telling someone who has already done the job, so you know how they perform in it, that you are going to look for other candidates but they are "welcome to apply for the position" is kind of like your committed girlfriend telling you she wants to be able to see other people. It's not because she's pretty sure she wants to marry you, but wants to date a few other guys before she decides for sure that you're the one.

And I think going outside the district is the right thing to do. HISD has some pretty long-standing cultural problems, and bringing in fresh blood is really the only way to change that culture.

Now Lathan is leaving Houston ISD. I don't blame her at all!

I was forced to listen to this a..hole while riding with someone in their car yesterday. I wanted to say something but didn't want to offend the driver and just kept my mouth shut while raging to myself. The man is insufferable to listen to.

Explains why his former co-workers at Sports Radio 610 KILT-AM Houston did NOT like him, including Rich Lord, who was annoyed with Innes' schtick.

  4. Today is the final day on the air for legendary NBC 2 KPRC-TV Houston reporter Phil Archer, who is leaving the station after 44 years with the Houston NBC affiliate. The legendary Houston reporter has covered it all ranging from being stabbed & knocked unconscious during the 1978 Moody Parks Riots coverage & other major events. "Phil's the guy you send when your own reputation is on the line," former NBC News Bureau Chief & KPRC-TV Houston reporter Larry Weidman told mikemcguff.com. "He always delivers & he has for nearly half a century. Plus, he's also from Wichita Falls."

TX Governor Greg Abbott (R) issued a message of luck to Archer:

Any thoughts on Archer's retirement from NBC 2 KPRC-TV Houston after 44 years ?

  5. Tom Koch is retiring from Ch. 13 KTRK-TV Houston after 39 years with the ABC O&O Station he announced at the end of yesterday's weekday morning newscast. His final newscast will be on May 28th.

"For nearly 40 years, I've been honored & humbled that so many people welcomed me into their homes every day," Koch said in a statement emailed to mikemcguff.com. "It's been a dream come true for a small-town Wisconsin kid to be part of this incredible station & truly great city of Houston. But I've decided it's time to step aside, turn off that early morning alarm & wake up to a new adventure."

The station tells Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com the week of May 24th, will be featuring an on-air celebration featuring Koch & his many achievements will begin, with a final goodbye on May 28th, 2021.

Here are some videos of Koch's time with Ch. 13 over the years:

Pissing people off is the only thing Innes is good at. Look in the dictionary for "self-absorbed obnoxious dick" and you'll see a photo of Josh Innes.

Which explains why Rich Lord (formerly of Sports Radio 610 KILT-AM Houston) never liked Innes from the get-go.

  7. Unless all of y'all have been living under rocks, there has been increase of violent crime impacting the Lone Star State's largest city including a rising murder rate inside the City of Houston due to what Houston Crime Stopper's victim advocate Andy Kahn calls "bond pandemic".

The weak-kneed progressive criminal court judges as well as the STUPIDITY of radical liberal Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo (D) have let criminals wreaking havoc on the streets of Houston with the progressive garbage of bond reform, bail reform & other liberal weak on crime garbage. Any thoughts on the violent crime ?

I've had enough of the racially based BS on the HISD Board. Those idiots think it's all about them, when it's really all about the kids and their education. It's a little better since Jones and Davila left, but it could be better. The animosity between the Hispanics and the Blacks is just bad. As for Lathan, when she proposed giving staff bigger raises than the teachers, I was done with her.

In other words: you don't think Lathan will get the job on a permanent basis ?

Now the animosity between Latinos & African Americans inside HISD: this isn't the first time we've seen deep-seated hostility, it's been going on for decades (some cases, Latinos aligned with arch-segregationists).

  9. Several African American elected officeholders in Houston & many civil rights activists have blasted HISD's decision in not giving Lathan the position of HISD Superintendent on a permanent basis, calling the decision "grossly misguided" & "ill-motivated":

The racially-charged hostility inside HISD School Board of Trustees continues to escalate even further.....
