Rumor mill is at it again--this time with Stephen leaving the Fox 26 station. No word on where he may be headed. Meteorologist Collin Myers (former 13) was spotted filling in this past weekend in Stephens place. Hmmm

I figured Myers was going to stick around in Houston & wouldn't be surprised if he does the weekend weather with Fox 26 KRIV-TV Houston. Now the question is who'll take over the Traffic anchor duties on weekday mornings ?

If it was 20 years ago, this would have been the end of her career.  TV reporters are a dime a dozen and there are always younger and more attractive reporters who are willing to work for nothing coming up every year.  But Hecker is probably going to end up getting elevated to a national job at OAN or Blaze or end up with a youtube channel making millions.

What is amazing is that her big whistleblower story is just pathetic.  Her manager told her she didn't want to run bitcoin stories at 5-6pm because the ratings would be bad due to low income black viewers not being interested in bitcoin.  The other scandal is that she thought that Fox News shut her down on stories about hydroxychoroquine because Trump was for it.  Fox News.  And basically, they did not want her going rogue on social media.  The other big revelation:  ads go to the highest bidder and the CDC has paid for ad time.  And she is unable to provide a concrete example of ad dollars driving content.  If she was a journalist who was worth a crap, she would have easily been able to do that.  We all know it happens.  So, after all of this fuss, she can't even establish what Noam Chomsky and Ed Hermann demonstrated conclusively in Manufacturing Consent 33 years ago.

I'm wondering how her former colleagues at Fox 26 KRIV-TV Houston are handling what Hecker did ?

  4. Check this out on Hecker's interview with Project Veritas:

Hecker has her own YouTube Channel, which I've subscribed last year. She's also on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.

She shouldn't but I mean it's Fox News, the king of false information. Maybe she is trying to get on with OAN.

According to the Houston Chronicle, it appears Hecker got suspended then after more developments, they fired her altogether.

It also seems like she had no intention of working with Fox News Channel either & had been plotting to bolt from Fox 26 since last August.

  6. Howdy everyone. Unless y'all have been living under rocks during the early part of the Summer, Fox 26 KRIV-TV Houston Reporter Ivory Hecker announced during the 5:00 PM Newscast yesterday evening that she's teaming up with Project Veritas in blowing the whistle on her own company. Something tells me Fox 26 GM & Executive VP D'Artanian Bebel is NOT thrilled with Hecker's Jack Bauer-esque rogue-ness including Hecker's accusations that Fox Corporation has been muzzling her from telling the truth to the viewers:

    https://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2021/06/ivory-hecker-fox-26-project-veritas.html

The Houston Chronicle's title has Hecker claiming she's been muzzled by Fox 26 & the higher-ups of that station:

    https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Houston-Fox-26-reporter-Ivory-Hecker-alleges-16247795.php

Any thoughts on Hecker going off-script on live TV yesterday & the ramifications if she'll keep her job at Fox 26 ? Because once again, I've got a feeling D'Art either didn't know she was going to do this OR found out like everyone else & is PISSED off.

  7. For those, who missed Koch's final signoff from Ch. 13 on last Friday, May 28th:

Man... Some of my earliest memories of going to school are seeing him, Doug Brown and Don Nelson on the news before we left for the day. Weird to think one of them is no longer with us and the survivors are now both retired.

Big question is who'll replace Koch in weekday morning newscast for Ch. 13 ? I feel like a house-cleaning is still ongoing over there.

    A.) Jeff Ehling

    B.) Steven Romo

    C.) The Field

  8. Sad news for viewers of CBS 11 KHOU-TV Houston.

Former CBS 11 KHOU-TV Houston reporter John "Rucks" Russell has passed away at the age of 55 yesterday.

Russell's former colleague, former CBS 11 KHOU-TV Houston reporter & political analyst Doug Miller received the news from Russell's wife. On Miller's Facebook page, Miller posted a nice tribute for Russell:

    https://www.facebook.com/doug.miller.75033149/posts/10224020654571793

Russell worked at CBS 11 KHOU-TV Houston from 2006 to 2017, when he left the station to work as the Communications Director for US Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) in Washington, DC; he then became the Senior Media & Communications Specialist HHS Office of Minority Health & also last worked as Chief of Staff/Communications Director for Houston City Council.

Prior to KHOU-TV, Russell worked for WNCN-TV Raleigh, NC., WRIC-TV Central Virginia as well as stops in Washington, DC., Orlando, FL & Roanoke, VA. He graduated from Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ & studied abroad  in Besancon, France.

So does mean he is gone from Houston radio? If so, he burned every bridge and there are no more sport station for him to work at. Good riddance to bad trash.

Let's see how long Innes will last in Nashville....

  10. For those who are under rocks, the 2024 Presidential campaign has begun & for others: the GOP primaries began on Saturday, November 7th, 2020 when Biden was declared the 46th President defeating then-President Donald Trump.

Big question is who'll be the GOP nominee for President in 2024 & could possibly win the White House ?

A.) FL Governor Ron DeSantis (R)

    B.) Former President Donald Trump

    C.) Former VP Mike Pence

D.) United States Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX)

E.) United States Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO)

F.) United States Senator Richard Scott (R-FL)

G.) SD Governor Kristi Noem (R)

H.) Someone we never see coming

  11. Yesterday, Weekday Traffic Anchor Katherine Whaley left Ch. 13 to spend time with her family. But something tells me we'll see her back on TV in a few years.

With longtime Weekday Morning Anchor Tom Koch retiring after nearly 40 years on May 28th, it appears the weekday morning newscast will be looking different with possible more changes on the horizon:

    https://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2021/03/katherine-whaley-leaves-abc13-ktrk.html?m=1

Whaley's Instagram message to her followers on her decision to leave the ABC O&O Station:

Chelsey Hernandez, who does the "Stretch Your Dollar" segments & recently moved to the weekday afternoons in 2019, has left the ABC O&O Station as well, plus her biography was taken off the station's website & Hernandez removed all mentions of Ch. 13 from her Social Media accounts:

    https://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2021/03/chelsey-hernandez-leaves-abc13-ktrk.html

Any thoughts on the changes going on at Ch. 13 ? Big question is whether we'll see more departures down the road ?

  12. In a move that surprised some but didn't with others, HPD Police Chief Art Acevedo recently announced he was leaving the Space City for South Beach & becoming the new police chief of the Miami PD in Miami, FL.

In his last press conference, he also got into another testy exchange with NBC 2 KPRC-TV Houston reporter Mario Diaz.

Texas Monthly had an article detailing how Acevedo managed to piss off everybody.

Give me your thoughts on Acevedo's tenure as HPD Police Chief & how he'll be remembered ?

Yesterday inside Houston City Hall: Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner (D) announced Troy Finner would become the new HPD Police Chief replacing Acevedo.

When I heard the board wasn't giving her the job, and was resuming its search for outside candidates, but that she was "welcome to apply for the position," I took that to mean her chances of getting the job were slim to none. Telling someone who has already done the job, so you know how they perform in it, that you are going to look for other candidates but they are "welcome to apply for the position" is kind of like your committed girlfriend telling you she wants to be able to see other people. It's not because she's pretty sure she wants to marry you, but wants to date a few other guys before she decides for sure that you're the one.

And I think going outside the district is the right thing to do. HISD has some pretty long-standing cultural problems, and bringing in fresh blood is really the only way to change that culture.

Now Lathan is leaving Houston ISD. I don't blame her at all!

I was forced to listen to this a..hole while riding with someone in their car yesterday. I wanted to say something but didn't want to offend the driver and just kept my mouth shut while raging to myself. The man is insufferable to listen to.

Explains why his former co-workers at Sports Radio 610 KILT-AM Houston did NOT like him, including Rich Lord, who was annoyed with Innes' schtick.

  15. Tom Koch is retiring from Ch. 13 KTRK-TV Houston after 39 years with the ABC O&O Station he announced at the end of yesterday's weekday morning newscast. His final newscast will be on May 28th.

"For nearly 40 years, I've been honored & humbled that so many people welcomed me into their homes every day," Koch said in a statement emailed to mikemcguff.com. "It's been a dream come true for a small-town Wisconsin kid to be part of this incredible station & truly great city of Houston. But I've decided it's time to step aside, turn off that early morning alarm & wake up to a new adventure."

The station tells Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com the week of May 24th, will be featuring an on-air celebration featuring Koch & his many achievements will begin, with a final goodbye on May 28th, 2021.

Here are some videos of Koch's time with Ch. 13 over the years:

Weekday morning newscast from March 6th, 1990.

    February 2nd, 1991.
