  1. I've always been a big chi-town pizza eater cosigning on: Candelari's at the end of washington ave. Barry's at richmond & fountainview And if you need to sober up after a night of partying, I'd reccomend Late Night Pie off tuam west of bagby st If you like chicago dogs, I discovered the Hot Dog Shop in NW houston by the beltway is on point.
  2. It's likely to attract my crowd, and "we are the music makers, we are the dreamers of dreams" This is more a consolidation of bohemians opposed to what you fear, but parking will be an issue I'm sure of it.
  3. oops forgot I took a couple flix from the night pour this from 6-7-08
  4. The other day I mentioned Houston needed a monument to mediocrity, & to my ear to ear smile I got 2 of'm! FWIW this is just as absurd as people saying "the USA is a christian nation", I'm sure the Muslims, Hindu's, & other denominations will get a good laugh as well. CAN I GET AN AMEN !!! love it love it
  5. I love to learn the history behind such endeavors, especially the involvement of oil contractors, thank you sincerely. As far as the GRB imitating the Pompidou Centre, if there's a bldg to copy that would be the one. Remember also that Renzo Piano was in Houston at the time working on the Menil Collection so his influence on this project is justified. Bolullo also did the Science 2 bldg at UH at approx. the same time period. I like the GRB much more now after reading this thread.
  6. Nice parking garage, I know a firm that uses it, that offices in the nearby great southwest bldg. I've parked there at night on the weekend but had a friend who has a parking pass, didn't know it was open to the public. Anyone know the firm that redeveloped that site? I know they won an award for it..
  7. ha! we're going tonight once their permit is active 11:30 is the score
  8. FWIW the magnolia trees off the east side of the bldg are magnificent
  9. owner has been po'boyin it, bringing out individual contractors to the site & low ballin them one at a time so far our negotiations have stalled out, but I'll mention it again to my boss...
  10. stolen pics btw word on the street is that cops are going to be ticketing skaters downtown more viciously than in the past now b/c of adjacent legal park
  11. delaney! Good to see you made it out of houston, that's what happens when a truly talented person as yourself succeeds to the next level. BK treatin you good?, I hear they have badass kickball games in prospect park and all other DIY events not to mention great peeps like SF/soma. So great to have you on board too and I look forward to seeing ya round these parts! btw Daigoro posts as spencer street (but hasn't posted in awhile cuz people around here are typically houston i.e. mediocre& snark hateraide like the internetz are about to run out, but I'll concede that they have their moments ) cheers~ -Jimmy edit: QUOTE (cnote @ Tuesday, April 1st, 2008 @ 2:43pm) * Somone show me some research showing that "most" graffiti is not done by gangsters...at one time it was common practice for gangs to mark territory with graffiti, maybe that changed... ^april fools on you how would one even begin to find out about things people are not willing to talk about ?
  12. I noticed this same person writing "DEMO" also did a roller in white under a cross bridge on I-10 (inner loop).
  13. ^I think he runs TNT t-shirt shop off fairview@taft I think this park is mere decor and less an asset to used by people of this city. If anything it spruces up our "global" image but forget about hanging around after dark. I'm sure it will raise land values, but that's about it, till some significant residential factor comes into play.
  14. So where do you see a connection between the authenticity of the client and the aesthetic expression? Personally I've not been impressed by ZC's previous work but this one in peticular I'm waiting to see/feel the patina of time wash over it. Also, does this church remind anyone of those russian nesting dolls in its site relationship with the church to the south of it? It would interesting to see another church to the north of greater dimension.
  15. could have been a disgruntled bldg inspector it's probably just a "toy" or "noob", but bubble letters generally are used b/c they can be created quickly with a solid fill and still maintain some sense of letter structure, these are called "throwies" Don't get me wrong folks, private property deserves to be respected but in some cases graffiti sends a red flag to the community that some property owners are being negligent (as in the old central bank bldg, days inn etc) or that a neighborhood is in decline in terms of social control. or it can be a direct message to the owners of the property, but sadly today most kids write graffiti in order to gain anonymous fame (kinda like posting on forums)
  16. ms 13 and SWC has been tagging the gulfton area but that's about all the gang related graffiti I've ever seen, and it's usually crude one color in primitive handstyles. No offense, but I loath ATX and all it's BS posturing, esp hearing about kids writing "fetus" sounds like he was really just in need of some attention hyde park is the soul of the atrocious'mon
  17. tomayto tomahto the best never get caught. "the more you squeeze, the more it slips between your fingers" edit: landscaping is the best technique to deter graffiti btw
  18. it's interesting reading everyones responses The architecture you see is a direct reflection of the church, if you think it looks fake it is because at the core values and enlightened awareness of the church leaders themselves are fake in your view. Good architects place great value to "material honesty" in terms of selection and execution.
  19. most graffiti is done by artists
  20. I'll be there for the opening. Prof Zemanek's current residence is down the street from my current location. He is, by far, the best professor I ever had. Tough as nails. edit: not that he'd use nails
  21. he's referring to the OBEY designed obama propanga posters of which MrBristle and some others painted on the campaign HQ in midtown
  22. Nice one. It's too bad none of the renderings give much in terms of scale w/r/t the high rise retirement bldg, but for this area the building scale appears good on paper. This will potentially drive up the land value of that small cluster of class B buildings off of Post Oak Rd.
