  1. Well that's some confounding info, I'll have to take a gander myself. I could have sworn that when 811 Main was built that the Stowers bldg was renovated at the same time and connected to the tower base?
  2. The Texas Tower will probably receive the same fate as the Montagu Hotel at 804 Fannin did. The difference with the Stowers bldg is that it has firewalls on two sides, whereas the Texas Tower has windows on all sides.
  3. Those yellow bags are everywhere's on my lunch break and on my way home in the evening. The place gets plenty of foot traffic even as a dead mall. I did all of my Christmas shopping there in one fell swoop! I can get with the concept of a "safe street" for pedestrians, but IMHO cars should be a part of that design solution. As infrastructure the city should also follow up and develop the block extending east of HP for a suitable anchor (like Bloomingdales's etc).
  4. Yes, Macy's has a garage (and tunnel access to it). It's on the same block with 800 Dallas St. (HCC) and has brown brick cladding with a furnace tower.
  5. Off the top of my head, I think the one thing that most pedestrians in downtown would like are bollards to protect them from speeding vechicles. I've seen some things.. A Marshall Fields couldn't hurt either (according to my wife).
  6. They look like rigid frame structural flanges for the new curtain wall.
  7. Went last saturday and was severely disappointed in the store layout. Especially in regards to dealing with the lunch crowd. Hopefully they will fix some of the programmatic kinks but the design was extremely piece-meal and heavy handed in between. Food was good, but l'll probably wait some time before returning to the deli counter.
  8. Whether she realizes it or not; that parcel will have an interesting future.
  9. It's on the top level of the outdoor mall. It is an indoor venue but it has an exterior patio area with seating. I'm pretty sure the closest residents in the Humble tower won't be able to hear much noise if the setup is indoors primarily.
  10. The main problem with Dallas St. is the bldg service docks for HP/HOB and the office tower (4xx? Fannin) across the street. I'm not one to judge (b/c I do this all the time) but walking by dumpsters and the "retail pedestrian experience" seem a tad at odds with the vision expressed here.
  11. So ready! Went to the deli off Westheimer last weekend (full disclosure: I worked on that project back when I was in school); the build out was smaller than I'd spec'd but the sharmas were superb and now I'll finally be able to do some pantry/bakery shopping w/o making the trip down to the SW side. Now if only burger guys would open a midtown or downtown location..
  12. I live in Midtown aswell, as far as the homeless just say "no," and they will leave you alone. Works everytime. Welcome to the hood and the board.
  13. As much of a canned answer as this is, it hits at the real crux of the situation. Why has Bissonett not been expanded already? Why was only a portion of 59S trenched? These questions lead to answers people really really don't want to hear.
  14. I always thought this bldg was doomed for the wrecking ball the moment they designed Total Plaza.
  15. The parking lot that takes up a half block to the West of the Exxon Tower, north of the Exxon Garage, and south of the Wedge Tower is now being razed. The Chevron daycare (designed by Kirksey) that takes up the other half of the block is not part of this development.
  16. Genesse St. is usually considered the east-west boundary bwtween Montrose and Midtown. However the area around W. Gray and Bagby St. and further west and north is 4th Ward. West beyond Genesse St., along W. Gray this area really has no name except maybe "Neartown," a catchall real estate term. Midtown is generally know to be south of the Pierce Elevated, east of Bagby St./Spur 523, west of the 59/288 interchange, and North of the elevated 59S (anything south of there is usually called the "Flower District" or the Museum District). The only update I've noticed in the hood is that the bldg across from Isabella Ct's (across Isabella St.) was demo'd about a month ago.
  17. What will happen to Francois De Menil's Byzantine Chapel after the frescoes leave?
  18. 35 Storeys with 250 units? and "The Horizon" is going to be 21 storeys with 290 units... I pass by this site regularly and didn't realize how small it is compared to the size of the proposed bldg. I imagine that the entire podium base will be the parking garage and with the unit count I can only imagine that at best half or a third of the site will hold the tower portion. I really had no idea the dirt was that pricey. Very dense proposal but within walking distance to the Central Market.
  19. They're down to the sub levels now. What you can't see is that they have retained or added (I'm not sure) 3 period-correct flagpoles out front along Polk.
