  1. Agreed. Swtsig has proven himself in the past on many occasions with information before it was public. In fact, I'd say he's the number 2 source of info after Urbanizer on this board. On the other hand, I haven't seen anything that htownlive has asserted come true yet. This may be because the W/Ritz and the Bloomingdales/Macy's/Dallas Street shopping district are huge projects that need more time, but I'm going to remain skeptical until we see some actual info. This isn't to say that those projects wouldn't be amazing, of course I'm praying that they happen just like everyone else on this board.
  2. I generally think of low-rises as 1-3 stories, mid-rises as 4-9, high-rises above 10, and supertalls roughly above 75 (though I think the official definition is 300m).
  3. Why can't you understand that not everyone flies first class on United for every flight? Many people would much rather pay $180 for a Frontier flight than $450 for United regardless of what plane it's on or what time the flight is. Most people couldn't care less about the 787 as long as they can get to their destination as cheaply as possible. It's great that you love United so much, but it's good to have options.
  4. I would guess a couple of townhouses, the lot is quite small. There's a trailer on the lot, though I'm not sure if it was on there before because I never paid much attention to this lot. I live close so I'll keep an eye on it.
  5. So glad to see this happening... this was one of the worst eyesores in the city. Is the plan just office? Is it for a specific company or is it a spec renovation? Also when was it last used before becoming abandoned?
  6. Random question I had while looking at the newest development map (which has SkyHouse Main listed in case we were still not convinced): why do they call hotel rooms "keys", as in the Marriott Marquis is a 1000-key hotel?
  7. This. We are getting so spoiled in Houston. Remember just a few years ago when we would go days without an update on any project in Going Up because there was barely any construction around town? I think it will look good being right next to the other SkyHouse. Just look at the Mosaic towers or the Palisade Palms in Galveston for two identical towers side by side; those turned out well enough. They're more isolated, but still.
  8. I walked by here last night, and it is such a tremendous upgrade from what was there before. This was a fairly sketchy corner before but the lighting on the ground floor level really transforms the intersection. With this and 609 Main there will be activity (shops/restaurants/etc) for quite a few consecutive blocks along Main Street without any major abandoned buildings or parking lots, which is great for the area and for visitors to the hotel.
  9. Doesn't look like it from the rendering, but any chance of retail on Almeda? I'm not one of those GFR nazis who think that every single building must have retail, but I live across the street and this immediate area is desperately lacking in decent restaurants.
  10. Yeah, why didn't they just plan vs. construct a RITZ CARLTON HOTEL at this location?
  11. Wow that's a ton of town homes. I lost count but it's well over 200. There's also something going up with a crane nearby at OST and Almeda, I think it's apartments but I haven't been able to get close enough to see for sure. Not sure if there's a thread for that or not... I don't recall one.
  12. Nothing today. The only thing I've seen in the past month (I drive by 2 or 3 times per week) was a small piece of equipment one afternoon that didn't really seem to do anything. It kind of looked like a backhoe but seemed smaller than ones I've seen. There is a banner with this website (http://www.1717updates.com), but it hasn't been updated in a year. Meanwhile, those disgusting yellow signs show no sign of going away.
  13. Thanks for the info. 10 gates seems a little more in line with what I was expecting, but I guess it will take a few years for them to grow the service. I'm not sure how many international 737 departures per day they can do per gate, but I remember them saying that they would have about 25 total, which would be 5 per gate. Mexico City and Cancun will probably require at least 5 departures per day each not too long after launch, which leaves only 15 flights per day to all other cities combined. Not to mention that the fifth gate is supposed to be common use, so other carriers may use up some of those slots (not sure what airlines will use them, but I imagine some Mexican low cost carriers may launch a route or two, plus VivaAerobus may come over from IAH).
  14. Regarding the actual topic... is 5 international gates enough? It seems like a pretty small number for an international terminal. But I'm sure they know what they are doing. I'm pretty sure those are connecting through Atlanta and Baltimore. Don't think we will see any direct international service until late 2015.
  15. That's where Burlap Barrel and the Comedy Sportz building is? Doesn't seem like much room.
  16. I stayed on the Park Inn side for a night a little less than a year ago. It was fine, relatively inexpensive, and there was a restaurant/bar, with free breakfast in the morning. The only problem was that the in-room A/C unit was extremely loud so I had to shut it off, but then it got quite warm without it. I think it was a Wednesday night, and there were a decent amount of people, but it didn't seem terribly crowded.
  17. Is building 6 going to be in front of building 3? That seems to be the only available area.
  18. There's already a Zara in the Galleria, but absolutely agree on Pret. The best chain sandwich shop in my opinion.
  19. Emirates upgauging to A380 service on December 3. http://www.fly2houston.com/0/3921917/0/83280/ I'm assuming this is the second A380 gate since the Emirates flight arrives at the exact time that Lufthansa is supposed to depart, which would likely cause some overlap if there was only one gate available. I know are planning on upgrading a second gate to be A380 compatible, but it doesn't say for sure in this article whether or not it will be available for December 3.

    IAH Vs. DFW

United will be starting daily service to Santiago, Chile on December 7th with a 763. UA847 IAH-SCL 2105-0940 UA846 SCL-IAH 2245-0540 There's also rumor of a Saturday-only service to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, but not sure about that one yet. Great to see new routes from IAH on UA, Santiago was a gaping hole on UA's South American network.
  22. This is an interesting question. Apparently the term "feeder road" is almost exclusively a Houston term. Here is a map based on the above question (with a few more response choices like service road and gateway, the latter which I've never heard), showing where the term feeder road is used. Unfortunately I couldn't find the one that has different colors for all the choices and where they are common, but this just shows where feeder is used vs. not used... As to the original question, I love feeder roads. It makes access to businesses and side streets much easier, and as people mentioned, can be a life-saver in high traffic situations. Two local examples that I like to use are 290 westbound, where the feeder can be significantly faster than the main lanes during rush hour, even with the lights, and the Gulf Freeway northbound, where several exits in the Clear Lake area have bypasses on the feeder road so you don't even have to stop at the light, going under the overpasses for Bay Area Blvd and El Dorado instead.
