  1. I would guess a couple of townhouses, the lot is quite small. There's a trailer on the lot, though I'm not sure if it was on there before because I never paid much attention to this lot. I live close so I'll keep an eye on it.
  2. So glad to see this happening... this was one of the worst eyesores in the city. Is the plan just office? Is it for a specific company or is it a spec renovation? Also when was it last used before becoming abandoned?
  3. Random question I had while looking at the newest development map (which has SkyHouse Main listed in case we were still not convinced): why do they call hotel rooms "keys", as in the Marriott Marquis is a 1000-key hotel?
  4. This. We are getting so spoiled in Houston. Remember just a few years ago when we would go days without an update on any project in Going Up because there was barely any construction around town? I think it will look good being right next to the other SkyHouse. Just look at the Mosaic towers or the Palisade Palms in Galveston for two identical towers side by side; those turned out well enough. They're more isolated, but still.
  5. I walked by here last night, and it is such a tremendous upgrade from what was there before. This was a fairly sketchy corner before but the lighting on the ground floor level really transforms the intersection. With this and 609 Main there will be activity (shops/restaurants/etc) for quite a few consecutive blocks along Main Street without any major abandoned buildings or parking lots, which is great for the area and for visitors to the hotel.
  6. Doesn't look like it from the rendering, but any chance of retail on Almeda? I'm not one of those GFR nazis who think that every single building must have retail, but I live across the street and this immediate area is desperately lacking in decent restaurants.
  7. Yeah, why didn't they just plan vs. construct a RITZ CARLTON HOTEL at this location?
  8. Wow that's a ton of town homes. I lost count but it's well over 200. There's also something going up with a crane nearby at OST and Almeda, I think it's apartments but I haven't been able to get close enough to see for sure. Not sure if there's a thread for that or not... I don't recall one.
  9. Nothing today. The only thing I've seen in the past month (I drive by 2 or 3 times per week) was a small piece of equipment one afternoon that didn't really seem to do anything. It kind of looked like a backhoe but seemed smaller than ones I've seen. There is a banner with this website (http://www.1717updates.com), but it hasn't been updated in a year. Meanwhile, those disgusting yellow signs show no sign of going away.
  10. Thanks for the info. 10 gates seems a little more in line with what I was expecting, but I guess it will take a few years for them to grow the service. I'm not sure how many international 737 departures per day they can do per gate, but I remember them saying that they would have about 25 total, which would be 5 per gate. Mexico City and Cancun will probably require at least 5 departures per day each not too long after launch, which leaves only 15 flights per day to all other cities combined. Not to mention that the fifth gate is supposed to be common use, so other carriers may use up some of those slots (not sure what airlines will use them, but I imagine some Mexican low cost carriers may launch a route or two, plus VivaAerobus may come over from IAH).
  11. Regarding the actual topic... is 5 international gates enough? It seems like a pretty small number for an international terminal. But I'm sure they know what they are doing. I'm pretty sure those are connecting through Atlanta and Baltimore. Don't think we will see any direct international service until late 2015.
  12. It's crazy how small this building looks when viewed from the south (coming up 288). Even though it's 24 stories it looks tiny compared to the rest of the skyline. It really reminds you how massive some of the office buildings downtown really are. Still, it's in a good spot that is highly visible from that angle.
  13. How do you decide what words to put in quotation marks? Is it completely random? So it's going to be quite awhile before this new luxury wing opens? Assuming it'll take about a year after Saks moves to its new location to renovate, that puts it during the first part of 2017, or not for another three years. For some reason I thought it was going to be much sooner than that, but I guess it's more of a long term plan. Still, I'm excited to see the changes, and how they eventually incorporate the residential high rise. Although I'm not getting my hopes up too much on that, I remember Turnberry Tower never getting off the ground.
  14. With so many surface parking lots near MMP being developed (at least 5 blocks by my count), it may be useful for parking during Astros' games. Although it's not like anyone goes to games these days...
  15. Woah. That's different. Doesn't look like anything I've seen in this city. Kinda cool though.
  16. It's interesting how some buildings seem to go up extremely fast (this one, Sky House), while others are so slow (Sovereign, etc). I guess they're trying to get this one up quickly because of the possible lawsuit, and Sky House is fast because they build the same design over and over, but you'd think that if building this quickly was possible it would be beneficial for all construction to happen at a similar pace in order to deliver sooner.
  17. Ok so it's a "new terminal", but it's in the same place as Terminal D (and part of C), and Terminal D will remain operational while it is being built in different phases. I didn't realize that Terminal F in Atlanta only had 14 gates, so I guess 15 is plenty if they are all widebody gates. I've heard that when all the European carriers are in during the afternoon D is basically at capacity, but if we can only accommodate 7 widebodies at once, then that explains it. As for the 2 airlines discussing the A380, I would guess Emirates (almost certainly) and British Airways.
  18. I'm unclear on the plan... are they going to build an additional international terminal in addition to this renovation? Because they are only increasing the gates from 12 to 15, which doesn't seem like enough.
  19. I saw it on Twitter last week. I think it was this past Thursday at a hotel near Hobby.

  21. Careful, statements like that will have the preservationists on this board at your throat in no time.
  22. I cannot recall the last time this joke of a poster ever made a knowledgable statement. Please stop talking about things you know nothing about. Clearly you've demonstrated that you've never spent any time whatsoever in any of the areas surrounding Houston. The actual Katy area, not the city limits because that means nothing in this case, as Trae mentioned, has a population close to 300k, which would make it one of the largest, if not the largest, suburbs of Houston. This highway was much needed, just because you aren't one of the many people who will use it doesn't mean it does not serve an important function to the people of West Houston.
