  1. Does anyone know what will happen with the Americana/Macy's Garage block next door? IIRC, 1110 Main Partners LP owns both blocks and all former activity on the other block was shut down, except for Subway lol
  2. I think the homeless may end up moving soon as a result of construction soon on Main St for its facelift, combined with already ongoing construction at 1111 Travis.
  3. I thought Nip's Convention Center Hotel plans died when Houston First chose the Rida Development bid for what became the Marriott Marquis. IIRC, After his bid failed, this project became EaDo Place Apts. Same site, same people behind both projects ...Global Century. http://www.globalcenturydev.com/files/investors_final2.pdf The lot has been fenced off in green fencing for a while... no activity on site.
  4. 8,000 sq ft of retail space in total. And southbound lane on Main St in between Lamar & Dallas will also be closed to become a plaza. I've also worked for in the area for a few years (rode the train too) and understand your views on the transformation. In my view, this change will be for the better, no question about it. And combined the other nearby developments almost happening simultaneously, by 2016 the center city will have a vastly different look and feel from what we usually encounter daily.
  5. I think this is a direct result of trying to add too much to this project within its overall site footprint. The original design and orientation was perfect and the historic homes placement on the site fit naturally within the street-grid, making it look and feel like they've always been here. The former design also did a much better job connecting with the neighborhood surroundings too (connecting to Texas Ave rather than turning its back on it) Now that's lost and the Cohn house will be awkwardly repositioned to add classrooms, which will turn its back against Texas Ave. If they wanted to add classroom space, couldn't they use one of the historic houses for this?
  6. So after another look at the rendering, I think the floor plan is incorrectly labeled. In both the floor plan and the new rendering, the house on site at Nau Center depicted appears to be the Foley House, not the Cohn House as labeled. Note: the longer protruding section in the back of the house that extends into the student section of Nau. This matches the rear of the Foley House.
  7. That's why I really thought it was perfect next to the Cohn house facing ADLA. But instead, since it appears the entrance to the student section for Nau Center is on ADLA, it looks like the Texas Ave side will end up with a big wall facing the ballpark instead of a view of the historic Foley & Cohn houses fronting a center for cultural heritage. As for where Foley could go now - if not Sam Houston Park, for a much shorter distance, they could put it in the green space above Kinder Lake (by Monument Au Fantome sculpture - flat green space in between the hill and the stage) in Discovery Green. I'd imagine the Foley house front porch there would make a good backdrop for photos during wedding or quilting conventions lol
  8. A. No one has said anything about the Foley house. And it's not my claim, I do not have insider information. I'm just connecting the dots based on the Foley House's disappearance from all recent renderings. Nothing more. B. Who said they were relocating the Foley House? Or is that your claim? I didn't hear anything in regard to 'we are going to relocate this other house we aren't using'
  9. Honestly, I don't mind if the project is on hold. It was nothing more than a baby-BG Group Place anyways. The Capitol/Rusk corridor is so hot with development currently, maybe once all those projects are complete revitalizing the area, it could lead to a project revision to a better design, offering more amenities for what could be a marquee address by then.
  10. That rendering appears to match the site plan you posted earlier. Which means only the Cohn house survives as Houston gets rid of another Downtown Foley's (the house) EDIT: Doing this from a mobile, if someone can get a better screen grab, do it. Looks like Cohn house's position would be reoriented to face SW towards the entry plaza, with the left side of the house now facing ADLA. Not sure I like this design revision. I liked the previous design, what had better street presence with both homes' front porches facing ADLA. Not to mention the Foley house is the better looking of the two.
  11. They will be uplit palms along with new pedestrian lighting along with wider sidewalks and landscaping. The same palms & lighting will also be used on Main from Polk to Lamar to essentially connect the 2 projects (only section of Main to have palms). Southbound Main at Block 256 will be closed to become a plaza as well. Will be fun times at this intersection in the new year. IIRC Hotel Valencia also starts construction around the same time as Main & Dallas street enhancements. And we have Hilcorp tower going up & Spring Hill Suites renovation. I work at 1000 Main, will definitely post pics of progress here...
  12. On the 11th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: 11 HAIFers Sourcing 10 Ex-ca-vators 9 builders renovating 8 tower cranes 7 Ground Floor Retailers 6 taller towers 5 GOLDEN RINGSSSS 4 dozers dozing 3 Sky Houses 2 construction loans and a tower with no pub-lic ren-der-ingggggg
  13. Lord & Taylor and Saks are both NYC-based, although the parent company is in Canada (Hudson's Bay)
  14. EaDo Place (the lot currently fenced off in Green fencing - by the old Meridian) ...not to be confused with EaDo Station, which I believe is what you have pictured. EDIT: This is EaDo Place - not certain what's happening with it as lot has been fenced off for a while with no activity. http://www.globalcenturydev.com/files/investors_final2.pdf
  15. That's Dan Nip's old East End Convention Center Hotel proposal, which the property is now fenced off for EaDo Place (still not under construction) This horribly outdated map also contains the now-dead Wyndham East End Hotel (by Ballpark Lofts) as well as the original concept for GRB expansion east of Toyota Center, which is incorrectly labeled as being a parking garage. Worst. Map. EVER.
  16. Howard - Mr Ed does not count as an actual source, nor does he work for Chevron. He works for Texaco ...get it straight.
  17. Fight Night! #HopkinsKovalev

  18. I usually refrain from politically motivated posts but on this #ElectionDay, I feel the need to say this: If you want actual mass transportation options to develop in this growing city, vote AGAINST John Culberson. I'm not a Democrat or a Republican, just a concerned citizen.

  19. If I had to guess - I'd say Simon at the Astroworld plot. Nearest shopping centers are Meyerland, Pearland and Gulfgate. Plenty of income nearby with the MedCenter. Potential hookup to both NRG Park & MetroRail (would be city's only shopping center connected to Rail). But IIRC half of the site got sold to the county? Who knows ...just a guess.
  20. "A #Game7 in the #WorldSeries is a gift for everyone," - former Astro Hunter Pence. Hope it's a good one...

  21. That section of the article quoted is actually referencing details for the 6 story base of Catalyst Houston, which also has a tower portion and is next door to Finger's 400-unit 500 Crawford.
  22. They should take a page out of John Oliver's playbook lol
  23. I think the Chronic is a lil late as usual. 609's website and that video have been out for a few months.
