  1. It would make sense that the stadium cost so much. If Dallas Cowboys Park will not be built, perhaps it's because Jerry Jones and Arlington decided to put most of the money into the stadium instead.
  2. It sounds fesible. I think one of these two will happen... I can't see DFW wanting to tear Texas Stadium down for a redevelopment if the stadium could still be used as part of the revitalization, especially when U consider the cost of razing.
  3. To be honest, Dallas vs. Houston's all in fun. It's not a matter of "who's better". It's a matter of wanting to "compete", because let's face it, friendly competition forces both sides to improve themselves more. It raises the standard, and as a result, Dallas AND Houston both look better and better. I go to Dallas for business every couple months, and I gotta say that some of those regular office buildings between the Galleria area and Frisco on the Tollway look top-notch. I'm impressed. Usually, when I think of a 15-story building, I don't expect much in the architecture, but Dallas seems to have set the bar with some of those buildings there.

  5. Yea, in 30 years, you'll hear "Hard Knock Life" on the Oldies station >
  6. It's gonna be a beautiful stadium when it's complete. The Cowboys once again proved that the best stadiums in North America are in Texas. I LOVE their concept on the two sliding doors and the size of the stadium. I also love the amount of stadium suites. Looking forward to watching a Cowboys game from one of those when the stadium's complete. I can already see one problem with the design though. If a game's played during the daytime, it's gonna be real annoying to watch or play in that stadium with all those shadows on the field caused by the roof and jumbotron in the middle of the field. I can imagine that affecting passing plays on occassion. (I know Allianz Arena in Munich and Amsterdam Arena in Amsterdam has those shadow issues with their video boards dangling over the field. Both are retractable stadiums, too.) I'm also surprised they didn't include balconies for fresh air on the outside of the stadium similar to how Reliant has theirs. That's one of the best things for fans at Reliant during breaks between quarters and halfs. Also, will the center still happen? The hotels, shops around the stadium, Dallas Cowboys park etc.? In the designs, the area around the stadium looks empty. I thought there were supposed to be a whole bunch of Cowboys-themed entertainment built around the park. I like the tvs on the sides of the stadium. I'm not sure why that hasn't been done on any of the other stadiums in Texas, or why there isn't a jumbotron in the parking lots of Texas Stadium or Reliant when you think of the tailgate parties that happen there. Speaking of Texas Stadium, has Dallas/Irving decided what will happen to Texas Stadium after the new stadium is built? Lastly, it claims there are 8 video boards, four of them being the jumbotrons in the middle of the field. Where's the other four? Is that including the two jumbotrons in the parking lot. I'm curious because it looks like there's no jumbotrons in the endzone in some designs, but also appears to be there in others.

  10. Notice that the 99.6 percent in the Astrodome = 485,552, but 99% in Nashville = 528,890. That's a major revenue difference. And that's AFTER the Astrodome expansion in the 80's. I can see now why any owner would want to leave the Astrodome. Like I said before though, if Adams had a great new stadium plan, Houstonians probably would have excepted. But he didn't. Not by a long shot. This is Texas, where we like our stadiums to be the first of it's kind, and where we like to produce winners. If you can't offer either, you'll end up in Tennesee...
  11. To be fair, Beyonce ain't the only one, though. Most Texas celebs that make it big travel out of state. Yea, they may own property here, but they usually will move to L.A. or NYC because of their work (and play). Not many stay here. We still list them as celebs that are Texans though. Hell, the President is called a Texan, and was Texas governor, but he was born out of state. His dad, too.
  12. I'm happy we didn't settle back in the Adams dayz. Reliant Stadium and Toyota Center are a hell of a better than the stadium Bud Adams had planned for the Rockets and Oilers. That would have been a SERIOUS bust! Especially knowing that 5 or 6 years after it was built, the Rockets would have been looking for a new stadium and Adams would probably have been asking the city for a new one too
  13. Clements lives in the Memorial area here in Houston. His restaurant's right down the street. He raised his kids here in Houston, too. Both him and Pettite probably call Houston home because, well it's home. If the Dallas Cowboys can call Dallas home while playing in the suburbs, then Andy Pettite can call Houston home while growing up in the Houston area (Deer Park).
  14. True that. Houston also is home to the #1 girl on Myspace, the biggest hip-hop trend city of 2006, and is home to the only professional team in Texas to win a championship in 2006. That being said, you just can't beat what Lakewood's done. They bought a former NBA arena and made it one of the biggest and most publicized churches in the world. Took Olsteen straight to Larry King. He dreamed big, and made that dream come true.
  15. I disagree. Carr played a good game. Young making that last run in overtime in no way was Carr's fault. I'm pretty sure Kubiak's ripping the defense for the loss more than Carr, but even so, the Texans played an overall good game. Vince Young was just being Vince Young though. Almost unavoidable...
  16. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headli...nt/4392841.html Joel Olsteen will be on the Barbara Walters special as one of the ten most fascinating people of 2006. Others on this year's list include: Terri Irwin Jay-Z Patrick Dempsey Sasha Baron Cohen Andre Agassi Brad Pitt & Angelia Jolie John Ramsey Among others. Good job, yo! I never recall hearing about Lakewood Church mentioned by Walters on tv before, but perhaps I'm wrong. Olsteen has really built an empire with Lakewood when it comes to media. It's great to finally hear some positive news from Houston on the national/international spotlight. Rizpekt!
  17. I do think that Bud truly wanted to stay in Houston, but also knew he had to have a new stadium to compete in the NFL market since Astrodome was becoming obsolete. That being said, Bud Adams' stadium ideas for Houston were STUPID to say the least. He had two plans shot down by Bob Lanier (and I'm glad): A 70,000 seat open-air stadium that looks almost exactly like the Titans' current stadium, and a stadium for the Oilers and Rockets similar to the Alamodome (which the Rockets weren't even aware of). NEITHER would have worked in Houston. If Bob McNair's stadium idea existed around that time period, perhaps the Oilers would still be in Houston. McNair flat-out came up with a stadium plan that was top-notch and a first in the NFL, while Adams was looking for something trendy and would have wasted taxpayer dollars. I feel bad for McNair because of today's game. He's the reason why the NFL is back in Houston, yet the way today's game ended will be talked about all season because of the person who did the final play, and the team he was on. Perhaps Texans/Titans will be a bigger rivalry in the coming years because of all the media scrutiny. I NEVER heard the Texans talked about on ESPN to hype up a game as much as this week leading up to the Titans game. I do see a lot of promise in the Texans, and Kubiak is a good coach, but they're far from a respectable risk-taking highlight-reeling NFL threat of a team that deserves multiple MNF games next season. They need to use the rest of the season as something to build on for training camp 2007. They also need to make a major splash in the next draft regardless of where they pick. And the Chronicle and Houston media needs to stop overhyping them, and underhyping Houston's championship teams. If a team wins a major championship, and the Texans lose, the Texans don't deserve to be the first sports story...
  18. Carr played a good game, and the Texans put up a good fight as a whole. But when it comes to taking chances and making the most out of what you have when the game's on the line, Young won the game. If the Texans were able to at least put up a fight until the very end of regulation, this wouldn't have been an embarassing loss. The crowd was booing at the end of regulation for a reason.
  19. The most embarassing loss in the history of the Texans in my book. Three reasons: 1) You cower at the last 53 seconds of regulation because you don't trust your offense to get the job done, and you wanna take the safe road knowing that the opposing team's QB would have gone for it 2) The hometown hero you turn down in the draft runs 50 yards to end the game and win it, proving his skills at crunchtime while proving Carr inept when time to take a risk. 3) Young had more fans cheering for him at the end of the Texans home game than the Texans did. We were happy for Vince. Was Bob McNair even at the game? I gotta give Carr props though; he did a good job consistantly throughout the game. He didn't lose it for the Texans in any way. But Kubiak didn't give Carr the chance to win it either at the end, because he thought it was too risky that Carr would get sacked or would have caused a turnover. That says a lot. If you don't trust your players, get new ones...like Vince Young perhaps?
