  1. Texas Monthly has a two-page ad for Turnberry. It seems they have revved up the engines to sell these palaces. It seems the high dollar highrise condos are selling well. It is the low end that is having difficulty any more. There are so many choices now for high end homes. And more to come.
  2. I think Discovery Green will be very populated and, therefore, the homeless will not be a problem. Usually the homeless tend to dwell in quieter, less populated parks and areas. Houston is not alone in homelessness. All the major cities have to cope with the homeless. I am just sorry to see that our government doesn't do a lot more to get these people help and more shelters for them. Back on the subject, doesn't this remind us of the boom times? It has been years since downtown has had this type of construction activity. I can't wait to see what's next .... a park that isn't a park yet already has developers licking their chops.
  3. According to HBJ, an aloft hotel will be built near the Galleria. aloft HBJ
  4. I totally agree with the new theme. The old Texas theme doesn't fit Space City.
  5. It appears this will be the night view (from Chron link above). FINALLY... renderings of the 630 ft tall tower. This will replace San Felipe Tower as the city's 15th tallest. 2010 will be here before you know it.
  6. You are so right in that thinking..... but I'll never know because I'm a middle class houstonfella. I do enjoy living in a city that has plenty. Wretched excesses .... or something like that. Fortunately, all of us HAIFers live quite comfortably without the excess. This is an exciting time for Houston, tho. Build those highrises. More..... more.....
  7. Here's the complete HBJ article. Mosaic is an example of doing things right and location, location, location. HBJ Full Story
  8. Articles in the Chron and HJB regarding Turnberry. Chronicle states Turnberry wants tower completed by Dec. 2009. Here's the HBJ link. Turnberry
  9. I hope we see the renderings in a couple of weeks. The waiting is the hard part.
  10. I would like a really beautiful fountain in Discovery Green. How about if one of Houston's big foundations build and maintain one there? Otherwise, there will probably be a nondescript fountain put in place there.
  11. Great news that this tower has reached the 20th floor. I need to get over there and check it out, but you never know with that Katy Fwy when it is closed. I'm with Velvet & strikn on Houston's multiple skylines as being awesome. I had to come in from Baytown and took the 610 Loop North up to 59 and exited downtown and that view is most remarkable. It looks like you are seeing three different cities ... very impressive (check it out sometimes). I can't wait for BLVD Place and River Oaks District to get going as well.
  12. The Four Seasons downtown has the condo/hotel thing going. I definitely believe downtown Houston is ready for another upscale hotel/condo project. Perhaps we'll see a couple of new downtown "five-star" hotels in the next decade.
  13. Found this blurb in the HBJ. Who's got the skinny? Luxury Hotel Additional downtown optimism in the Chron. Bureau
  14. ... and more good news: Microsoft Corp. partners will be in Houston for the 2008 annual meeting/conference. There's about 7,600 of those booking 50,000 room nites. HBJ reports.
  15. Is this the one across from Hyatt? Or is there another former Sheraton downtown? Downtown Hotel
  16. Hines47HBJ Full Link This is the link to HBJ's article on Hines' new 47 story skyscraper. Hopefully this will inform to some degree, but no renderings still.
  17. I like the balconies built within the structure as well. Cosmo is really a cool building. Now, if I could afford one of those units .... nah, I'll just watch and enjoy.
  18. It appears financing to the tune of $500m for this project is happening. Financing
  19. Newsflash Not much info here; anyone have the scoop?
  20. I hope it isn't fake.. . well ... fake it would be but fun too.
  21. Will this bridge have any style, lighting, etc. or just another run of the mill concrete bridge?
