  1. You got it right 2112.... those three and four and five story urban developments work particuarly for Midtown and our close in urban thangs...... Of course, it doesn't hurt to have 30 story, twin 30 story residential towers going up here and there and then we tend to forget that Texas Med Ctr is growing so fast that we have to be on top of the game to keep up. H-town, we are a good town and I love my town. There. Does this make sense???
  2. EXCELLENT!! Thanks for your observations. This is truly going to make H-town's Downtown magnifique. Now doesn't that sound impressive... at any rate... we got some good stuff out there. Just keeping up with all the new construction and all is difficult enough; but we will be right there. HAIFers are good folks.
  3. The Houston Press does know how to entertain. The Chron could get some pointers from HP.
  4. I have never found that flying was "low cost" but I guess if that's what the sign says.
  5. Sorry, Gary, for not providing the link, but as you see it was only a sniglet re: two 35 story highrises on the drawing board (nuttin' more). Guess we'll have to put out feelers for the scoop for this new project.
  6. Lakewood Yacht Club How does your city compare to Greater Houston's fab yacht clubs? I have been to these two, but would like some feedback on which clubs are tops in Texas. Houston Yacht Club
  7. I wasn't born in Texas, but got here as fast as I could!!! I LOVE Texas, particuarly H O U S T O N .... my town. But Texas has some real cool cities ... Dallas Austin FW SA El Paso Amarillo ... it's just that Texas is bigger than Germany. So there. T E X A S .... AND ALL THAT THAT IMPLIES!!!!
  8. Lookin' for links to this .... I was wondering if that is the area where the "42 story" skyrise was going to be built, but rather, did they opt for two 35s or if the 42 is still going to be built with the twins at another Post Oak Boulevard location. We need INFORMATION on this one. H e l p . . . .......
  9. The Monument Inn is one of Houston's little hidden treasures. Most people who live on Houston's west side haven't even heard of it. I enjoy the laid back atmosphere and seeing the barges and big ships ease past. I have always enjoyed the food; haven't had any bad stuff. They have good grilled food as well as the "redneck platter" (fried stuff).... thanks for the pics you guys. Here's to a beautiful Houston weekend.
  10. HBJ reports that a new set of twins are in the works for Uptown Houston. We have the 40-story Four Leaf Towers; but in the works now is a set of twins 35 stories tall. Any of you guys have renderings? This will definitely impact Uptown Houston's already cool skyline. I wanna see ......
  11. I guess all this boils down to the fact that we are in the 21st century. To live close in and still get a bungalow is beginning to be impossible. So... those developers... build up and get more bang for the buck. It seems to make some people happy while others aren't (the ones who want those bungalows to stay forever). I think the Heights is paying the price of growth. Thanks, you all, for the posts on this subject. I don't live in the Heights any more, but I certainly love the place.
  12. I have a lot of co-workers and friends who live out West. Katy is OK. But... when someone mentions "thicket" in any context, I hear dueling guitars from Deliverance for some reason.
  13. I enjoyed every word of that article. I laughed ... but then thought real hard about the subject and it wasn't as funny then. Thanks for your hard work on this. Reality bites.
  14. TxDOT is always a decade or two behind in this thing. I am surprised Ms. Gbur still has a job. But, in all fairness, Houston grows and grows and grows and we simply can't keep up with the madness. It is much better than the opposite where cities like Philly dropped from 2 mil to 1 mil in several decades. Guess we'll just get on the freeway for better or for worse.
  15. Actually, Houston is just one of a zillion cities with this problem. No, it won't get fixed overnight. But ... location - location - location will totally fix the problem ... in time.
  16. Downtown Houston Clubs - feel free to open at 7 a.m. and stay until the out-dated Texas alcohol laws close you down. I have always felt that New Orleans was the only city in the USA that got it right re: its bars and clubs.
  17. The building is totally cool. Without the crown, it is another building. With the crown, it is a highrise that has a bit of flair. My 2 cents.
  18. Good crabs are hard to come by in this part of the world. Having a significant other from Maryland reminds me of this all the time. But the suggestions given are the best. I truly love crab meat. But.... Texas is big and has the biggest of almost everything except crabs.
  19. OK. This morning it was 29 degrees (I think 30 in my hood). Anyhow, I am OVER WINTER. Please ... give me back HOUSTON weather - a balmy 72 degree winter day. Please. The weather guys say it is coming in the next few days - but take this DALLAS weather back up there. We don't want it. I have used lip balm until I am sick of the taste. How about.... 90 degrees again with lots of sun for 6 months
  20. CityCentre As we were speaking, Nancy Sarnoff has an article in today's Chron. Enjoy. Houston has so much building going on that it is hard to keep up with all the new stuff. Over at the old Allen House is an urban center, CityCentre, Mosaic, 2727 Kirby, the Endeavor highrises ... we haven't even begun to name all the action. houstonfella is happy.
  21. It wasn't "wiped out" in Alicia's fury in 1983. Damage, yes, but Galveston has survived lots of storms.
  22. SAN FRANCISCO - The views from almost anyplace in the City; Sausalito; the Golden Gate; rugged ocean and redwoods ... jeez, the list goes on. Only one San Francisco in the world.
  23. Thanks for the pics of S.A. It's been over a year since I've been to River City and can't wait to go back. It is very relaxing. I like La Mansion (where I usually stay). Although the weather wasn't the best, it looks like y'all had a wonderful time. And San Antonio has attracted international attention lately. This is an up and coming city. You go, S.A.
