  1. You did take a picture of my place, should I feel stalked?
  2. What is with those tree pits? I don't get it.
  3. Ruggle's is gone! I'll bet they make that land a parking lot.
  4. TS Allison was in 2001. Sunnyland had moved out to Fondren at least by the early 80's. I think they may have kept the Midtown location as a warehouse, but I'm not sure.
  5. Is there a height/load limit on concrete structures? It seems that all of our newer construction uses concrete. The tall buildings built here during the '80's were constructed using steel. Isn't the cost of steel crazy right now?
  6. So did the former Fiesta on Dunlavy as well as the Container Store on Post Oak.
  7. Does anyone know what's going in at the old Texaco station across from Stewart Cadillac on Main? They've added on to the back and covered the original stone work.
  8. Is that the old Sharpstown Mall? Me - I wouldn't go now, but used to shop there all the time (back in the day).
  9. I wonder to where they'll relocate. They had far too much business to just shut down.
  10. That balcony is next door to the building in question. I think it's a law firm.
  11. I think I was mistaken. Someone's grandfather worked there as a maintenance man and had ghost stories. I know the ghost at Spaghetti Warehouse is supposed to be the wife of the pharmacist that worked there, who fell down the elevator shaft. She's still looking for him.
  12. They've been working on that for a while, but I don't know what for. I've seen people up on the balcony sipping wine, but it seemed like a small private gathering.
  13. I noticed this morning that Brown Bag Deli has relocated from the Houston Club Bldg to where Ziggy's used to be. I think they were the last tenant, so demo must be nearing.
  14. I remember reading something that it was haunted by a maintenance man that was killed in an elevator accident.
  15. Chase Tower, built as Texas Commerce Tower in 1982 is 75 stories and was designed by I.M. Pei. It is the tallest 5-sided building in the world (or was, when it was built). For a short period, it was the tallest building west of the Mississippi.
  16. Stop 'n Go was the Houston-based convenience stores. 7-11's were all over the place too.
  17. I wonder what they'll do with the bunker/fallout shelter beneath Foley's/Macy's? By 1968, the government’s focus had shifted to public shelters, and the city had 464 fallout shelters. The largest was in the basement of the Foley’s at 1110 Main, which could hold nearly 39,000 people. There were also shelters under City Hall and underground where the Hobby Center is today. http://www.houstontx.gov/savvy/archives/spring06/spg06_heritage.htm
  18. Westmoreland Historic District.
  19. Yeah, that's not Main St. pictured, it's Rusk. Originally, some of the renderings for the new Main Station showed a double-sided station, one side for each direction. That won't work, Main is not wide enough there. They've got the medians torn up for two blocks. We'll probably end up with two stations a block apart. It looks like they are laying some track to join into the Red Line. I saw it by the Flying Saucer.
  20. Maggie Rita's (Ninfa's) closed. I read somewhere that there was a Cafe Adobe sign there now.
  21. Kyle - you pretty much hit the nail on the head.
  22. Congrats! With me, I never had to deal with coming out. I just am who I am and always have been. I've never had any issues with family, friends or work. Then again, I've never made it an issue. I don't associate myself with any particular political party, even though I voted straight ticket dem this time. I was just afraid of risking Romney because, in fact, I am better off than I was 4 years ago. Well, financially anyway. Being 4 years older is not so great. By the way, you sound like my type - Wink. LOL! Hopefully you can join us for happy hour one day.
