  1. I've heard from a few sources that it will be difficult for H&M to enter places like the Galleria and Memorial City, as they have waiting lists to get in...whereas places like Willowbrook and Baybrook mall are easier to get into, so although the closing Borders in the Galleria would seem to be the perfect place for a new H&M, there's probably already another company looking to go in there. This would be great news for BLVD Place if they really are getting all those tenants!
  2. Here's a screenshot I did from Google Earth historical imagery (from 1953)....this makes me want to go to a drive-inn now!
  3. I've heard that the apartments/condos? with the trees painted on the garage was 1 of two buildings they were supposed to build, and that the second half was to cover the exposed side that got painted...which makes sense. Hopefully the construction you're talking about is the 2nd tower! Now if only there was a tower that could be built in front of that Westin to block the view of that ugly hotel :/
  4. The new Dollar General is actually quite nice, at least a lot nicer than that Kroger. They've actually come a long way in their food offerings, and it's a lot more convenient running in there for chips and soda (or off-brand vienna sausages ) than any grocery store.
  5. Looks to be a smaller-scale version of West Ave, the pool would probably be similar as well.
  6. Thank God...the location they moved to in some former kid's clothing store was a depressing excuse for a Disney store...glad they're making this change
  7. Drove by yesterday - looks like they're going to be done painting in the next week or two
  8. It looks official now! Opening in November...hopefully http://blogs.chron.com/primeproperty/2011/03/sundance_cinemas_to_move_into.html
  9. Where on earth are they planning to expand? I get putting retail on the first floor of the garage, but additional parking and apartments?....maybe down the street towards west dallas?
  10. Since light rail seems to come by hard in this city, I think something like what they're doing in Vegas would be a good/cheaper alternative - Run two bus lines down Washington connecting the 290 Transit Center to Downtown (maybe even the bars of Midtown!)...One bus would make smaller stops, which I'm sure is already in place (and although I doubt they would make it a double-decker like Vegas, I'm sure something a little different than the normal fleet would be cool), the other would make fewer stops (perhaps Houston Ave, Taylor Street, Studemont, etc.). I know this is considered Bus Rapid Transit, and I thought it worked really well...for Vegas at least My other idea is to put an elevated rail down Center street...but yeah, the chance of a BRT being implemented would be more realistic.
  11. Are you sure it's demolition? When I drove by it looked like the window areas were being sealed off, like perhaps reno work? I was coming down Elysian so might have missed any demolition signs.
  12. This location is actually open again...went by today to check it out, but they only have furniture.
  13. yay, 3 stores to do "window-shopping" and that's about it...i know i know, if I want affordable, marshalls is just down the street
  14. Thank you so much! I shall waste hours now looking at all of these...it's so sad to do a quick google map of some of the hotels mentioned and all you see is a demolished plot of land :/ http://www.cardcow.com/246498/carrousel-motor-hotel-houston-texas/ Google Map Location
  15. I wish they would take it back to the original style...maybe add a second floor or parking garage in the back. It would blend really well with the revitalization of the tower theater Tower Community Center
  16. OH Ok I've been through there...I thought that it was the "Decorative Center: Dallas" complex...didn't realize it was a district. Thanks for the info kdog and chrisp!
  17. What the heck is the "Dallas Design District"....in no way am I trying to start a Dallas vs. Houston argument...but I'd much rather live in an area called Uptown/Downtown/Midtown/etc...
  18. I saw this the other day and just had to laugh...at least it's a step toward my wish of having large advertising on the trains/buses...
  19. They don't look to be behind schedule...that's actually the timeframe for when people BID to do the work, not actually do it.
  20. I wonder why they never mentioned the Houston Premium Outlets in the article, since it looks like it will be an exact duplicate...yet they kept mentioning Katy Mills and other Mills properties. I guess they want people from Galveston to think this is a "first" for the region. Still good news though!
  21. Nevermind...found the article on the Houston Pavilions website and the new "tenants" is the Scott Gertner bar...that's old news! Oh well...
  22. Does anyone have access to the full addition and could provide us with what tenants are coming to the Pavilions? http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/print-edition/2011/01/07/books-a-million-retains-space.html
  23. apparently the "new" Drink Houston opened this month...I'm assuming across the way from where it used to be?! Never been...
  24. Progress photo from today - it looks like part of the first levels of the tower are being renovated as well... Also, noticed the spiral staircase is still in...would be nice if it stays
