  1. I think they said the development will be called Legacy, but the apartment buildings will be named The Stack. This is going to be really nice! Plus we have the redevelopment of the old hotel at Texas and University into a mixed use center.
  2. Didn't you get the memo? You are not allowed to challenge METRO's light rail. If a select few on here say that the way METRO is building it is correct then you are not allowed to say anything negative about it. And rule number one on HAIF, never compare Houston to any other city. What you are saying is what I have been saying for years, but the "bullies" of HAIF don't like being challenged and you will be shunned for it. Just a little bit of advice.
  3. Well then, LOL! To get more specific how about the first light rail? That picture is of a street car in Toronto....well that is pretty much what Houston's light rail is (a street car) so I guess you all win. With that said, I know I remember reading that before.
  4. Rico, I meant to say at ground level where cars and pedestrians are also in the mix.
  5. Oh yeah, won't that be the only same level (touching) innersection of passanger rail in the world? I remember hearing something about that a few years back.
  6. What is the significance of the Central Station other than the name? Will all of the lines cross at that point? I thought the transit center that was supposed to be built was to be the "Central Station?"
  7. WOODEN!!! He is just waiting on a hurricane to come and knock down the whole pier.
  8. LOL! I did the sameting back when I saw it..... Then I saw the date.
  9. Houston ranks as North America’s fastest-growing metro area Houston Business Journal Date: Wednesday, January 18, 2012, 6:32am CST Houston not only beat every other large metropolitan area in the U.S. in terms of the world’s fastest-growing economies, but it also topped all other large metropolitan areas in the eastern hemisphere, according to a report from the Brookings Institution released on Wednesday. http://www.bizjourna...h-americas.html Global Rankings: http://www.brookings...monitormap.aspx
  10. Houston is really booming latley! For the first time in many years I am lost when it comes to the amount of new highrise buildings going up in the city. It seems like a few are being anounced every week now.
  11. A few things just hit hit me while watching those videos. 1. Main street won't be the only F***ed up street in downtown with one lane in each direction. 2. There will be a plethora of more collisions with the trains. In my own opinion I beleive that METRO is making a mistake by placing the rail on the streets. The rail should have its own right of way or be below or above ground away from the pedestrian and auto traffic. Houston is too big not to have the space for a slim right of way for light rail trains. I just don't think its a great idea.
  12. Saw the George R Brown Covention Center on the Disney show "Good Luck Charlie." They passed it of as a Denver Convention/Concert Hall though.
  13. So Aldi is coming to town, but I just saw on the news that one Houston neighborhood doesn't want it behind their houses. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/print-edition/2011/11/25/discount-retailers-bulk-up-in-houston.html
  14. Is the Skybar ever going to open? its been almost a year since I have heard anything. Also Is Red Cat Jazz still open?
  15. I can imagine, especially for visitors coming from the airport, that's the first skyline they see. If people from out of town could only seethe entire Houston area and just how many skylines there are they would be surprised.
  16. I agree, Why did they not put it up to the street? You would think that with the rail eventually going through and with other mixed use developments like the BBVA Compass Bank development down the street going up that they would want to make it pedestrian friendly.
  17. Welcome burgower4, +1 for you! Looks Like BLVD place will be the Houston's Galleria of the 21st Century. 18. I wanted to add these photos that I recently found on Skyscraper Page. Some nice pictures, I like the idea of Atlanta's Midtown Mile, where there will be a mile of walkable retail, etc.
  19. Have Developers In Houston Finally Learned That Urban Is Better? I have noticed that many of the new developments going up in inner city Houston and even in the out lining areas have been more urban in design. I believe that the CVS that went up in Midtown a few years back would have gotten a more urban design to better fit the neighborhood if built today. It really does seem like an exciting time in Houston for lovers of urban development. Do you all think that developers are finally realizing what they have been missing out on all of these years?
  20. Thats a nice bridge! Has there been any changes to how its going to look since those renderings?
  21. They already have several anchors. Here is a sample of what it will be like: More about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPI4_9ugNck&feature=player_embedded http://www.gbctv.us/index.html
  22. Aggressive, but I hope its true. Hopefully Golyadkin didn't talk to someone that really didn't know what they were talking about. He did mention that the guy said a 60+?? story building was going in and then the guy said it wasn't. We will all know very soon if it is true and we know that we have a source here that can keep us updated. Thanks Golyadkin! You should work for swamplot or the Chronicle or something, LOL!
