  1. Never thought of it that way, but it makes since. Also, yeah mixed use centers like City Centre are generic and are in other cities, but its a start. How about a mixed use center with unique architecture and high end retail? wouldn't that bring tourist? I don't know, maybe fix up and line one of the inner city bayous with retail, restaurants etc. To me the most exciting area to be in in Houston is the Uptown area. It would be nice if those strip centers could be torn down and converted to walkable tourist destinations. The city should try to attract places like Legoland Discovery Centre, ESPN Zone, etc. Maybe even a tourist Spot with a NASA theme in the uptown area. Another way to get tourist is talk-shows/live audience sitcoms. Tourist like to be on TV, if one of their favorite shows tapes in Houston, they'll want to visit the city and be in the audience. Just a taught.
  2. I agree, they say New York is the 24hr city, but I have seen it dead at night outside those tourist areas. I thought just about everything stayed opened 24hrs there. Not the case. What I was envisioning doesn't necessarily have to be like a Time Square, but somewhere like City Centre (Old Town & Country Mall) but located within the 610 loop. Within walking distance to downtown. Its just something about the hustle and bustle of business people, shoppers, tourist, performers, street kids with backpacks, families walking around, etc that make a city for me. Yeah Houston has a great night life, but its all over the place and there are no famous walkable streets that tourist can go to. I remember hearing about Richmond Ave as a kid. A bustling street lined with clubs. Well in my mind, I imaged it like 6th Street in Austin, a walkable area, but we all know that its nothing like that. I think City Centre is the type of place I envision, and a lot of the developments that were being developed closer to the city a few years ago would fit the profile. BLVD Place, the River Oaks District, Regent Square, etc. Lets hope that those will eventually develop and become magnets with tourist etc. And hopefully Earth Quest Adventures will help with tourist.
  3. I'd want to visit. I just wish that there was an area for tourist and residents to congregate and just hand out and walk around and buy Houston souvenirs. This place needs to be walkable preferably with rail transportation and have museums, street vendors, SHADE!!!, street performers, sidewalk dinning etc. Something like a Time Square.
  4. I guess this are is going to me like a the new medical center or a mini medical center.
  5. Can't DART's light rail eventually be switched over to heavy rail?
  6. Houston one of world's most boring cities to visit http://opentravel.com/blogs/worlds-most-boring-cities-to-visit/ Is anyone surprised?
  7. This is really cool! Dallas has been a real forward thinking city lately. Here is a video I found of the construction now:
  8. I know people wise it was, but I was just wondering about that cluster of buildings like a little downtown area.
  9. So the part starting at 3:00 to about 3:40 was taped in Houston. I have never seen that area, it looks like a little downtown or something. it must be torn down.
  10. Was this part of the movie really taped in Houston? The part starting at 3:00 to about 3:40. If so does this are still exist? It looked pretty urban/walkable.
  11. I agree with you. I would like to see at least one new station very soon. Without competition 97.9 and 102.1 can suck as much as they want because there are no other stations to listen to. With no competition you will not get quality. Lets have fun with a few scenarios: Hot 95.7 flips to just Hip Hop & R&B and keeps its name. or 101 the Beat or Power 104.1
  12. Good to hear he is looking for a new location. There were some great views from there.
  13. Really quickly: At last years Trae Day, people where shot. Trae had nothing to do with. He had several interviews to clear his name. When doing an interview with the Madd Hatta Morning shows the entertainment reporter Nette confronted him saying his music attracts those kind of violent people. A few months later Trae made a mix tape and he took some jabs at Nette's weight on it. At that point KBXX and presumably all Radio One stations band his music and could never mention him. Employees of the Radio One can't even play his music outside of work. Well a few months ago The Krakernuttz played a song on air that Trae had a verse on, the were fired. And a few days ago Brandi Garcia played a song while djing at a 50 cent concert that Trae verse on and she was fired even though the concert had nothing to do with the her job at 979 the box. Here is a video of her explaining what happened: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nk9WOZgsLHk&feature=player_embedded
  14. Yeah the Madd Hatta Morning Show is still on. I could see that going away as well and them bringing in a national morning show. I can't believe this has happened to the Station,Brandi Garcia and all of the other DJs that have been fired over the past few years. The station needs new ownership fast or competition! The current owners are ruining the stations reputation. I hope Brandi doesn't leave Houston though. Hopefully a new station will come about soon and she and all the other talent that was let go can work there.
  15. Now they have fired Brandi Garcia: http://blogs.houstonpress.com/rocks/2010/06/dj_brandi_garcia_fired_from_th.php
  16. Thats a really expensive Hotel in NYC, I thought everybody had heard of it. Haven't you seen Coming to America? That is the Hotel Prince Akeem Joffer's parents and entourage stayed in when they come to get their son.
  17. Who knows, maybe they will close the Galleria location and open a signature store in this development. But not many retailers are willing to leave the Galleria for other locations.
  18. Nice! But that Tootsies makes me think that these are renderings from before the recession, because Tootsies is no going in West Ave. Hopefully these are new though and it is getting built. Nice to see parallel parking instead of front in parking.
  19. I looked for more information on that show (Neighbors From Hell) and found nothing that said it was set in Houston. Besides the energy company drilling to the center of the earth and the Southern accent I heard from one of the characters, what else suggest or says that its set in Houston?
  20. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/ent/stories/DN-dallastv_27new.ART0.State.Edition2.9b97b0e.html Wow! So Chase will be set in Houston also, but will tape in Dallas. Cool enough!
  21. Thanks guys, I figured it out yesterday. Knowing that they were alive on the island makes the ending better! But some of the mystery should have been explained.
  22. Exactly the same with me. Season one I figured it was purgatory but the producers of the show denied it. I have been watching for 6 years waiting to figure out what the numbers meant etc, but they decided to be lazy and say they were all dead. It was kind of depressing knowing that all these years the people I have been watching were dead. Although they all went to Heaven I don't consider it a happy ending. Dead is depressing no matter how you look at it. Here is something I might be confused on, is the island purgatory? What did not being able to get pregnant on the island have to do with anything? If they were already dead on the island how did some of them die again? If Miles Straume was born on the island, does that mean he was never born? What did the Dharma Initiative have to do with anything? Or how does it tie in with the ending? HELP me better understand this!
  23. Lonstar may tape in Dallas, but its set in Houston and Midland.
