  1. Looks good to me. Is the along the freeway near Memorial City Mall? They must have built these fast. Last time I was in the area I didn't see them.
  2. This is a very nice Walmart on the outside. It would be great if they built all their new stores like this and not cheaply with cinder blocks. I think people would look at Walmart in a new way. It would be great if they updated the Bryan Walmart both inside and out.
  3. I like Dunkin's concept better than Shipley's. The atmosphere in Shipley's is dull while Dunkin's is more planned out uniform. As far as donuts, I like the both in their own way, but Shipley's are easier to eat and you probably eat more of them. Other than the Donuts I would say everything else is better at Dunkin. I think that it would be great if the Canadian chain similar to Dunkin called Tim Hortons came to the Houston Area. I have never been to one, but I know that competition makes everything better and with Dunkin sitting stagnate and Krispy Kreme gone, Shipley's has no chain competition. http://www.timhortons.com/us/en/index.html
  4. Maybe I'm miss reading this, but you say you made a point to stop in while on vacation in Hawaii? I don't watch the show, but I thought he was from Miami? .....I think I'm miss reading.
  5. There is one on HWY 6 in Cooperfiled. And I think there is on on I-45 North somewhere. Whatever happened to Houston getting 100's of new Donkin' Donuts?
  6. If you all want to read the article without a membership copy "Houston: Where Energy is King" into Google, click Google news and you can read the whole thing.
  7. I noticed that too, that's I didn't feel it out yet. I didn't know it was due April 1st though, I guess I'll mail it tomorrow.
  8. He was Houston's richest person! Wow! RIP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Duncan http://www.marketwatch.com/story/enterprise-duncan-chairman-dan-duncan-passes-away-2010-03-29
  9. FOX TV Show "Midland" Partly Set in Houston Taping in Dallas Pilot with Jon Voight being shot in Dallas DALLAS — Jon Voight and other actors are in Dallas this week finishing up a television show called "Midland." Dallas Film Commission director Janis Burklund said Monday that the Fox pilot has been shooting this month at several locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/tx/6934835.html
  10. If you go to the BLVD Place website and go to retail and click photos you will see what I am talking about on the 6th photo down. There is no sign, maybe that spot has never been taken.
  11. I think it is, go here http://www.earthquestadventures.com/ and flip over until you get to the Earthwalk picture. and then look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:City_walk_2007.jpg It looks like the same concept to me. This is probably the coolest theme park I have ever seen! It takes you into the past, the present and the future. I hope it blows all of the theme parks in Florida and California out of the water! Hopefully it will be a huge draw to the Houston area (although I hate long lines). And Maybe it will bring in competition to the area. I know it will probably cause the Kemah boardwalk to add more rides, etc. I wonder if Tillman Fertitta has ever thought about building a true theme park in Houston? And I wonder if the owners of the park will eventually try to sell the park to Universal, Disney, or Busch Gardens (hopefully not Sixflags)?
  12. Wow! I was just randomly searching the site and came upon this nearly 5 years after the last post. Its funny through that gap in time, Deborah Duncan came back to TV as a news anchor, and for a few years now has been the host of another local talk show (with a much smaller set though).
  13. Was just about to post about this. You beat me to it. Its on the front page of Yahoo.
  14. Thats exactly what I was trying to say. My first sentence didn't come out the way I want it to though, I missed a few words. But I do believe that if rail in Houston was as plentiful as it is in these other cities that more people would ride public transportation. Buses routes are complicated, with rail you know where you are going. If I fly somewhere that doesn't have rail, I would rent a car. Who rides buses when they are out of town? If I fly to a city with rail (access to airport included), I ride the rail and don't deal with a car. Its kind of hard to explain but that is the way it is. People prefer rail.
  15. Houstonians drive themselves more than anybody. Is this because people are more willing to commute in trains rather than buses? Something to think about. http://blogs.chron.com/primeproperty/2010/03/post_34.html#comments
  16. In related news a Baltimore light rail was hit by a tractor-trailer: For some reason the link doesn't work, but you can look up Baltimore light rail on Yahoo news.
  17. What kind of rail do you think is right for Dallas then? They were originally supposed to have the same rail as Atlanta, but the DART member cities in the suburbs didn't want that because they thought that the lines would never reach their cities, so they compromised with light rail.
  18. I agree, I don't think they can appeal to the younger generation at their price point. I will not pay what they are asking for cafeteria food. They charge more then places like Chili's where the food is made when you order it. Now if prices were lowered I think I would come back. I do like their new restaurant concept though (the one of 290 in Cypress).
  19. The point I was trying to make is that Astroworld stopped adding and changing things up and overall just stopped fixing the park up. I remember the Batman ride they had had the theme of a junk yard, well they used real junk and it was trashy looking and the tunnel spelled like piss. I believe the park could have worked on the amount of land they had, but it would take a little more engineering to add more rides in such a small space. You have to keep changing things up or otherwise they will get boring.
  20. Metro inches ahead on rail for Fort Bend Board OKs environmental studies for 8.2-mile line in U.S. 90A corridor By MIKE SNYDER HOUSTON CHRONICLE March 18, 2010, 9:38PM http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/hotstories/6920215.html
  21. By the way editor, I wanted to ask you is this the city you are moving to? I think you said it was a city of a little over 100,000 people and this city has over 123,771 people. And it looks like they are adding light rail. Thats a pretty progressive city to be so small and an impressive skyline to be so small. Bellevue, Washington
  22. I want to thank the editor for his constructive criticism of my replies. You and a few others are some of the only ones who are willing to go against the other side. I also want to say that I have looked up Brussels METRO and can see no similarities what so ever to Houston's rail. I see they have a full fledged subway system and I also see that they have a newer light rail as well but the way they implement it is nothing like what you see in Houston. Take a look at this video of their light rail: You know you could also say that San Fransisco, and LA have light rail, but its in addition to their heavy rail and its implemented more like heavy rail. You almost had me on Amsterdam, their light rail in certain parts travel completely in the road with cars, people, and bikes (it acts as more of a street car). But then i noticed that it also goes into underground subways. But thats not the good part! Amsterdam not only has light rail, it has many different types of heavy rail, take a look at this video: Lets see if we can find some world class metros without a world class rail network. FYI: I posted this before I knew you posted the post above me editor.
  23. And the stupidest thing I have seen yet is in this video. Whose idea was it to put a rail in the middle of a suburban style neighborhood. Is that supposed to be Richmond Ave. I don't blame the residents of that street for complaining. I have seen cities in 3rd world countries do better than this. You know I think a big problem is that most Houstonians don't have a clue whats going on with METRO thats why you don't hear all the people complaining about what is getting built.
  24. I don't think anyone said that Dallas was superior to Houston. As far as living an actual urban life I believe Dallas is better. And even when METRO builds out all of the rail lines, METRO will still be inferior to DART no matter how many more people ride it. And if you are going to claim that more people are riding METRO rail than DART rail then why wouldn't you think that a higher capacity system work for Houston? After all it does have one of the highest rider-ships per mile in the US for a Light Rail System. We can argue back and forth forever, but you can never be an Alpha world-class city without a world-class transit system and what METRO is building is not world class. Houston may be one of the fastest growing cities now, but in the future when a time comes when people don't drive as much, Houston will be left out and people will migrate to cities where they can get around without a car.
