  1. I knew that, and they also have locations in Austin, Dallas, San Antonio and other cities now. But I was wondering when the Houston locations would start opening up.
  2. Are you for real? Where is it? The old articles said that they should begin opening around the 1st quarter of 2010.
  3. Has construction began on any of the Carl's Jr. Stores yet? Or is it not going to happen? http://swamplot.com/burger-chains-ready-attack-on-houston-carls-jr-smashburger-five-guys/2009-01-23/
  4. So you saw it as well and say it was Rice University, correct?
  5. I haven't seen that commercial since the day I posted that.
  6. I don't know, but if I see it I will post it.
  7. In the new Jack in the Box Commercial, I think Jack is at Rice University. Am I right?
  8. I remember him I think it was JP Speeds or something like that. Is he no longer on there? I haven't listened to the Madd Hatta Morning Show in awhile so I wouldn't know.
  9. 2010 sounds like a good year to do so, he has been on that station since the 50s or 60s.
  10. 1. More English language radio stations in Houston will be flipped to Spanish language. 2. More Local Fortune 500 companies will layoff thousands of people. 3. Another year of no new high-rise or major development announcements in Houston. 4. Construction on METROs new light rail lines will be suspended indefinitely. 5. A news anchor that has been on Houston TV for many years will announce his retirement. I hope the opposite of these actually happens. We will see one year from now.
  11. It stops vehicle traffic! Pointblank end of story.
  12. With all the trouble that the line will cause to the street, wouldn't it make more since to elevate or go underground in this area even if the cost is higher? Sometimes you have to spend more money to get it right. Do it right the 1st time to keep from having to redo stuff. The first line down main should have been a big lesson learned on how not to do rail, but I guess METRO has more learning to do.
  13. Your opinion. I knew what it took for the rail to get built. A LOT! I just posted this thread as wishful thinking. Why not want the best for the city? Why settle for mediocre? It may cost more but in the long run it will payoff.
  14. Couldn't have said it better! I just don't know why Aesthetics is such a bad word here. Whats wrong with wanting nicely designed covered secure stations? And Vicman yes, believe it or not there are plenty of people who ride and don't pay. You couldn't do that on a REAL rail system (unless you jump the turnstiles or run through the gates after someone else). Face it, METRO has built the cheapest designed system in America, oh wait, the World! even third world countries have better built systems. BUILD IT RIGHT OR DON'T BUILD IT AT ALL. OR BUILD IT WHEN YOU CAN BUILD IT RIGHT.
  15. The way METRO has its light rail set up now, you can pretty much ride for free. Who hasn't ridden it for free?
  16. I agree, If Houston had a NYC type system with the same grit, I wouldn't complain. I think It would be easier to keep it clean in Houston than NYC though. No matter what though, I just can't call what METRO has built World Class. You all complain that Houston is to Hot to be out in the open all the time, well why not have built an in-closed system with air conditioning?
  17. Couldn't have said it better! As for your question Kylejack, If Cosmetics didn't matter, than why is it important to most other cities transit systems including LA's? When METRO Houston thinks of cosmetics, they think that keeping its properties clear of paid advertising is enough. I see nothing wrong with advertisements on buses, trains and stations in a crazy way it makes things more interesting and less like you're in Communist North Korea. Back to my point, instead of METRO worrying about ads on its properties, they should focus more on the cosmetics of their stations. The last time I was on Main I remember thinking what a cheap looking rail system with people standing in the middle of the road to wait for the train under a tiny shed. Not what something Id expect from the 4th largest city in America and Oil Capital of the World. Look at the systems Dubai and its surrounding oil rich neighbors have built. So don't tell me oil is the reason Houston doesn't have a World class transit system.
  18. If only METRO had realized the importance of a high quality rail system no matter what the type (heavy or light). Take a Look at the World Class Gold Line that LA just opened:
  19. Well they need better signs or something. Its probably okay for locals, but for tourist its a turn off not to know the zoo is actually far away from the zoo rail station. ts false advertising!
  20. To be honest, how many people do you really think pay to ride the train? Its only scary every once in awhile when one of those METRO cops is on there asking to see tickets. Thats the bad think about the way METRO built its system you can easily get no for free. In other cities I have been to they make sure you pay because you have to go through the turnstyles. But let me get back to the Houston Zoo Station. Why did they name it that when it really doesn't take you to the Zoo. They should have buses waiting for people wanting to go to the zoo. I also walked to an entrance that was not open during that day of the week (the one with the big elephant metal statue) and had to walk a long way to get in.
  21. This happened to me. I thought the Houston Zoo stop took you to the zoo, but the zoo is at least a half a mile a way. As I left I still could not find a light rail station close to the zoo so I walked to the museum district area. So does the rail not go nearer to the zoo than the zoo station?
  22. I see how the people on the left of the street get in, but how about the people on the right of the street. I don't see an entrance. Also What is that in the median at street level? Maybe its something to let light in?
  23. Yeah and the downtown tunnels
