  1. I think the renderings shown a few post up show some actually retailer that were supposed to locate in the River Oaks District Development. For example the Tootsies Store and Apple store, but then the recession happened and these two retailers found other upscale developments to move into because the River Oaks District was placed on hold. Tootsies moved into West Ave and Apple is building in Highland Village.
  2. +1 for you. Thanks for the information! Very informative! Will it be a 2 story Whole Foods? Have they gone back to the Flagship Plan or is it still a smaller one? It looks pretty big from the rendering. The should have just eliminated the few parking spots they have at the front and bring the building up to the street.
  3. It is going to be: Four Points by Sheraton College Station - Opening July, 2011 http://www.starwoodhotels.com/fourpoints/careers/new_properties.html?regionName=north_america&brandCode=4P
  4. I believe light rail was/is a part of the Vision 20/20 plan. http://vision2020.tamu.edu/
  5. I was wondering what percentage of homes in Houston have basements? I know its not a large amount probably less than 1 percent. I read an article the other day from around 2008 that showed how more and more homes in the Dallas area were being built with basements. It also said that many people think its imposable to have basements in Texas because they will leak. I also read somewhere that they can and should be built in Texas, it just has to be done a little differently than the northern climates. Here is a website and article of a company in the Dallas Fort Worth area building them: http://northtexasbasements.building.officelive.com/Basements_In_Texas.aspx I thought Austin might have a lot, but I heard they don't either, I guess the limestone there is hard to dig into.
  6. When will the Villa Maria and 2818 overpass begin? 2818 aka Harvey Mitchell is becoming more like a freeway. I heard that was the original plan, it was supposed to be the Westside freeway of BCS, but they went the cheap route and had streets intersecting it. In the future 2818 will be like the center of town with HWY 6 and HWY 47 becoming like the east and west loops. The light rail in the video is impressive, I wonder if it will really happen? Looks better than Houston's. LOL! If they are building it, I beleive that it would work better if it was not on the streets with cars. I want to see it go all the way to downtown Bryan at least. And how could I forget, the light rail should swing over to the airport and then maybe we can get an expansion their with flights to destination across the country. This region is growing fast enough and it could be the next Hobby.
  7. Well technically it is aging, everything ages. The only reason I thought of using the terminal as a studio is because of a recent report Wayne Dolcefino did about how it has been a waste of taxpayers money as its sits empty. It will likley never get used because of the time it take to get to it from the Gulf and its also surrounded by oil refiners and not an attractive area for travelers (according to Wayne's report).
  8. In its quest to become Hollywood South, Atlanta has drawn in a tremendous amount of TV Shows, movies, cable networks, etc in many new permanent studios that have sprouted up all over the city. Why can't Houston do the same with the buildings that it owns that are sitting empty? The brand new and aging cruse terminal that has never been use and probably never will be could be turned into a television/ movie studio as can the Astrodome (as planned by some). The State of Texas even offers incentives, to bring in the Television and movie industry, but it only seems to have done good for Dallas and Austin. Texas should look look to match or out do what Georgia is offering to get filmmakers to look at Texas more. In addition, Texas needs to not just get shows to tape here and leave, we need to build permanent studios to in order to keep them coming. Here is a link to the Atlanta EUE-Screen Gems Studios: http://blogs.ajc.com/radio-tv-talk/2011/04/29/atlantas-euescreen-gems-now-housing-three-tv-series/
  9. Is Scott Gertner's Skybar not open yet? I thought it had been open fora few months now. Whats taking so long?
  10. I came here to answer your question but was beat to it. But I decided to read some of the Swamplot comments and noticed people talking about a funeral home that use to be at the corner of Sage and Westheimer. Really? Which corner? Was it where the pharmacy sits now? When did it close?
  11. Has anyone seen this channel yet? Did it actually launch on March 3rd?
  12. Houston has some tough competition just within the cities in the US. I think what will get Houston eliminated is that it does not have rail transportation like the other cities on the list. I don't know how extensive Minneapolis-St. Paul rail is, but I don't think its that great either, so I see these two getting eliminated first.
  13. Atlanta already has enough of these types of developments. Hold up, isn't there also a development in Houston similar to this also called High Street?
  14. I don't think it was that he didn't appreciate the city, he just expected and wanted to strive for the best for Houston.
  15. I have always felt the same way, but you will get beat up on here for saying that. And to think the first plan Houston had for heavy rail was just like this one. Metro was also under the same leadership that built the MARTA system at the time. Makes me mad just thinking about it.
  16. I was flipping through the channels the other day and saw a recent episode of "Bryan Living and Learning." The should several pictures of Manor East Mall from its prime.
  17. Sounds like the new lines will be like roller-coasters, going up over an intersection and then down and then up again over the next intersection and so on. I would like to see what these elevated intersections are going to look? The picture I have in my head is a very tacky/cheap system. Invest in your future Houston! Imagine if the heavy rail system that was proposed in the 80s/90s? would have been built, Houston would be worrying about other things such as commuter rail, or a light right loop connecting suburbs.......Who knows.
  18. I always said that Houston needed at least a light metro system as seen here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium-capacity_rail_transport_system
  19. From the looks of their website, they don't look very professional. http://www.gbctv.us/ A kindergartener could have created better graphics. Is this channel still happening? Or is it even legit? Just remembered they don't start until March 3. Hopefully they re-launch their website before then.
  20. If what you are saying is true then I think this should be built in the spot where all the light rail lines meet. I thought the purpose of this place was to serve as a main hub or a central station. If this is not the case, then I think something should be reworked. Other then that, this design is TOO COOL! It will be one of those buildings that people will think of when they think of Houston. Its a game changer in redefining how people view the city.
  21. Here is what I think happened. The owner saw his club filled with black people and that is not the vision he had for his club. He figured that when the white people he intended to attract would be turned off by so many black people and it would become known as a black hangout. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrWd47-TXU8
  22. I came across this article on Cultremap. http://culturemap.com/newsdetail/12-29-10-hudson-lounge-caught-in-social-media-crossfire-tuesday-night-patrons-complain-they-were-kicked-out/ Seems like this place is getting a bad rap in less than 2 months of being open. The reviews have been so bad that they even shutdown their own facebook page. Have any of you all been? What was your experience? Reviews: http://www.yelp.com/biz/hudson-lounge-houston
