  1. I agree and always have. People say they don't know what a world class city it, but you know a world class city when you are in one. It’s just a feeling you get. Shops and cafes on corners, people walking around, entrances to mass transit under or above ground. A city where you don't have to move away to become famous, a city capable of hosting an Olympics, a city with name recognition where you don't have to say the state or country name after it. A city where you can fly in and take a train into the city or to any major area. A city with at least one major theme park nearby. A city where TV shows are shot and set in. the list goes on..... I hope someday soon after the light rail, the city will decide to build a mass transit system like all world class cities have. In reality, METRO light rail is just a street car. If you go to cities like San Francisco their light rail is used in addition to their heavy rail BART system, which is exactly what Houston needs to head out into the suburbs (used as a commuter/urban rail).
  2. From who? Me to Beyonce? Because she has mentioned Houston a lot in her music now-a-days. I had forgotten all about this thread and I wonder whatever happened to texasboy and westerngulf?
  3. New show on A&E is taped in the Houston area: http://www.aetv.com/flipped-off/
  4. Interesting video from the former Mayor of Houston Kathy Whitmire on why Houston has built the wrong rail system and Honolulu has built the better rail system. I think it applies to this thread perfectly!

  7. I don't feel that Houston's proposal for a shuttle necessarily had to be located at the Johnson Space Center. I think a big attraction on the level of the Georgia Aquarium could have been built downtown that could have brought in tourist. It could have been huge and had all sorts of stuff related to space, the moon, etc and could have been what Space Center Houston was really ment to be. This also could have gone in the Musem District or maybe even inside of the Astrodome. I think downtown would have been the best place for it though.
  8. Yes I remember this, they wanted to cross the tracks at grade and it would have been the only crossing of its kind in the world. Now that I think about it, I was arguing on here a few months ago about Houston having the only light rail to light rail at grade crossing but I was wrong as proven a few months back. Now I know why I was thinking that back then, it was because Houston would have had the world's first light rail (passanger) /freight rail crossing at grade. can you say CHEAP!
  9. I could have sworn that I saw on the news a few months ago that Houston would be getting an exact replica/mockup of a shuttle. Now I see that the old mockup that JSC already had is going to Seattle. I don't get it! Is Houston (JSC) getting a muckup space shuttle or not? Everytime I see this sketch of Houston's proposal for a shuttle, I can't help but laugh. Its just a storage building with windows. Each city's proposal reflected those cities personality and Houston's just confirmed what eveyone thinks about its personality. BORING! Minimal I guess becasue there are so many of these type of people who control so much "Where not spending our hard earned tax dollars on ??whatever??"
  10. Have I mentioned either of those cities? With that said, I want to end this off track conversation. This thread is about the potential University line on Richmond.
  11. Great post niche! And I know what the "D" in GDP stands for, I just didn't know what to call it for the city or metro level. So how does Houston's aggregate income at the municipal level rank among other cities?
  12. Here is a list of the top 14 cities in highrise construction as of 2011: http://www.buzzbuzzhome.com/forum/default.aspx?g=posts&t=739
  13. No, its something I read. I believe in a Chronicle article about CityCentre. It said something about that area being the actual geographic center of the Houston Metro Area.
  14. I never said "ONLY" I said "PRETTY MUCH." I will acknowledge the 3 towers going up in the Galleria area and the few others that are planned, but thats about it. Toronto has highrises going up in the hundreds currently. here is an article: http://www.moneyvill...n-the-continent I will let you win that one, only because I am to lazy to look. But I asure you that there are more and more to come.
  15. Since it will cost over $100 million to demolish the dome and many people are aginst spending tax dollars, why not give the dome to any developer who promises a lavish development there. One restraint would be construction/renovation must start within a year after the developer has control over the land or they will be fined and must give the dome back to the city.
  16. Houston is a city that has no reason to be poor. It has one of the highest city GDPs in the world. A large concentration of millionaires and a hand full of billionaires. But it also has a large poor population. I believe it has more uninsured children than any other city in the nation. How can a city so rich be so poor at the same time?
  17. I am all for 2 international airports in Houston. If United picked Houston for its headquarters than I would probably feel differently about it but it didn't so there is no loyalty. Yes they have Houston as its largest hub, but that can change at anytime. Southwest is a Texas company that wants to not only improve travel in the Houston region, but improve Hobby airport as well. By the way, how many cities/regions in the US/World have more than one international airport. I know the San Fransisco/Bay area has many, Chicago, New York area, LA area, but what other cities?
  18. I think that the center of Houston is actually around the Memorial City/CityCentre area.
  19. Since you put it that way it does seem kind of desperate LOL! No offense to those States, but when you are trying to prove a point like that (the pull that the theme park would have), mentioning those States is not very impressive. You left out New Mexico though, that makes it a little better. I guess trying for a theme park that pulls people from around the nation would be pretty great. Even the rich tourist from Mexico and maybe even Canada will make their vactions longer for it.
  20. What exactly is false about my statement?
  21. Fine if you feel that way about that development, but you will have to wait to hear about the other developments until tomorrow. Its time to sleep!
  22. Are you referring to the Earth Quest Adventures Development, or are you talking about just plain efforts to bring any theme park to Houston? I would be happy with either answer. I think Earth Quest Adventures if built as planned will bring in people atleast as far as the States that surround Texas. Astroworld was more for just the Houston region.
  23. Trae listed some of the TODs that have gone up because of DART, but I will mention another that just started construction. This TOD will have 10,000 housing units when it is complete. Massive 10,000 unit residential project underway at North Lake in Dallas http://www.dallasnews.com/business/commercial-real-estate/headlines/20120412-billingsley-starts-work-on-ambitious-dallas-rental-development.ece?ssimg=537728#ssStory537729
