  1. Would you all consider this to be a part of Greenway Plaza? Or am I way off? Just wondering neighborhood and skyline wise.
  2. I was just wondering, how far apart are these two developments and do you all thing these two sites could change the perception of Houston as a urban walkable city? Which development do you think has the greatest potential for development? Some say that the KBR site should become a park, but I believe that there could be a much better use for the site. KBR Site Regent Square
  3. WOW! Its much bigger than I thought! I will bet that many of the long time retailers in Rice Village will move in to this development. I wouldn't be supprised if much of Rice Village isn't demolished infavor of more urban development like this.
  4. I agree and always have. People say they don't know what a world class city it, but you know a world class city when you are in one. It’s just a feeling you get. Shops and cafes on corners, people walking around, entrances to mass transit under or above ground. A city where you don't have to move away to become famous, a city capable of hosting an Olympics, a city with name recognition where you don't have to say the state or country name after it. A city where you can fly in and take a train into the city or to any major area. A city with at least one major theme park nearby. A city where TV shows are shot and set in. the list goes on..... I hope someday soon after the light rail, the city will decide to build a mass transit system like all world class cities have. In reality, METRO light rail is just a street car. If you go to cities like San Francisco their light rail is used in addition to their heavy rail BART system, which is exactly what Houston needs to head out into the suburbs (used as a commuter/urban rail).
  5. New show on A&E is taped in the Houston area: http://www.aetv.com/flipped-off/
  6. Interesting video from the former Mayor of Houston Kathy Whitmire on why Houston has built the wrong rail system and Honolulu has built the better rail system. I think it applies to this thread perfectly!
  7. Yes I remember this, they wanted to cross the tracks at grade and it would have been the only crossing of its kind in the world. Now that I think about it, I was arguing on here a few months ago about Houston having the only light rail to light rail at grade crossing but I was wrong as proven a few months back. Now I know why I was thinking that back then, it was because Houston would have had the world's first light rail (passanger) /freight rail crossing at grade. can you say CHEAP!
  8. Since it will cost over $100 million to demolish the dome and many people are aginst spending tax dollars, why not give the dome to any developer who promises a lavish development there. One restraint would be construction/renovation must start within a year after the developer has control over the land or they will be fined and must give the dome back to the city.
  9. I am all for 2 international airports in Houston. If United picked Houston for its headquarters than I would probably feel differently about it but it didn't so there is no loyalty. Yes they have Houston as its largest hub, but that can change at anytime. Southwest is a Texas company that wants to not only improve travel in the Houston region, but improve Hobby airport as well. By the way, how many cities/regions in the US/World have more than one international airport. I know the San Fransisco/Bay area has many, Chicago, New York area, LA area, but what other cities?
  10. Houston streets or horrible in general because there are so many milles of them that have to be maintained. I guess that is the cost of building a city that sprawls as much as Houston does. If Houston were 50 percent less spread out imaging how much money would be saved on less roads, less maintenance, etc.
  11. Imagine how much better Houston's rail could have been if it had all its funds. Most likley the rail could have had its own right of way.
  12. The Astrodome should have been given to the movie/tv studio developers a long time ago. From what the dome has turned into, there was nothing to lose buy letting them take it over.
  13. Also, does Fox Sports Houston film in Houston? I remember hearing something about them filming in downtown as well. I wonder if they will upgrade their studio to a street level one to compete.
  14. At first I thought they changed the name because it was getting confused with the city of Houston. But after checking the website for Houston's, its still called Houston's, but the parent company is called Hillstone Resturant Group, and they have a resturant called Hillstone (don't know if its new).
  15. Thats what I am saying! When the channel was first announced, they made it seem like Houston was competing with Stamford for the national studios of the NBC Sports Network. Now it seems that its just the local channel that will have shows taped from there. They said something like if Houston didn't win the bid for the studio then it would still get a smaller office, but that the main studio would be in Stamford. Its all just so confusing! Its still exciting that something new is coming to downtown though, even if it won't be national shows and talk shows.
  16. Here is an older article about how Houston was competing with Stamford, Conn for the facility: http://www.chron.com...own-2653814.php If the studio was just ment for Houston related sports then why would the shows be broadcast out of Stamford? Where do the other 10 local sports channels that this company owns broadcast from? There cities or from Stamford? I remember reading something about talk shows being taped in the studios as well. I will look for that article.
  17. So what is the result from the press confrence? Is this just for the local cable channel or for the national NBC Sports studio Houston was bidding for? With the national deal, I heard that talk shows would also be filmed in the studios. What did they mean by talk shows? Sports talk shows or a Debra Duncan/Oprah/Ellen/Rachel Ray type talk show where many tourist will go daily with free tickets to the shows.
  18. Developments to change the look of University Drive http://www.theeagle.com/local/The-road-to-change--7010434 These developments are going to really change the Bryan/College Station area. It really is amazing how much this area has changed in the past few decades. I wonder will these plans slow down the efforts to revidalize downtown Bryan? Also there is a town center planned for the bio corridor, will that plan still go through with all of these other developments happening? And I can't believe they are tearing down the old plaza skyscraper.
  19. A few things just hit hit me while watching those videos. 1. Main street won't be the only F***ed up street in downtown with one lane in each direction. 2. There will be a plethora of more collisions with the trains. In my own opinion I beleive that METRO is making a mistake by placing the rail on the streets. The rail should have its own right of way or be below or above ground away from the pedestrian and auto traffic. Houston is too big not to have the space for a slim right of way for light rail trains. I just don't think its a great idea.
  20. Saw the George R Brown Covention Center on the Disney show "Good Luck Charlie." They passed it of as a Denver Convention/Concert Hall though.
  21. Is the Skybar ever going to open? its been almost a year since I have heard anything. Also Is Red Cat Jazz still open?
