  1. Yep. I've been twice, and it's awesome. Great food, too.
  2. Sounded kind of like a Cadillac commercial to me. I know Cadillac was running some kind of promo in Houston recently. Journos and bloggers got to drive a Cadillac for a few days.
  3. I noticed someone bumped this thread with a vote. Rick Perry, of course, vetoed this, as well as 3 foot passing for cyclists.
  4. Home invasions are far more rare than burglaries, but in a home invasion a gun may be useful. A responsible gun owner stores his/her gun locked and unloaded in a gun safe that is not visible from outside windows.
  5. Looks like it used to be Mela's Tejano Country (lesbian Tejano bar) from 1980 to at least 2005 (it won Houston Press awards in 2002 and 2005). The owner was grand marshal of the Pride Parade in 2002.
  6. Nah, I'll just go through the screening process. And I'll opt out of the backscatter machine, too.
  7. The trouble is that it's such a tiny space. It's absolutely perfect for displaying these pieces, but I don't know what else they could display.
  8. Yes, I like Bombay, especially the Saag Paneer. They've recently been sued for not paying overtime, though. I'm curious to see how that shakes out, because I won't support that, if true.
  9. Naw, movies. Also, sending video I've shot.
  10. Indeed. I'm pretty areligious, and that building moves me. It's also really cool to see how others (more accurately) depict Jesus.
  11. Fiesta and Kroger on Montrose are both inside 77006 while the HEB is west of the line. I don't know if those two did more than $10M in sales in a year. Montrose did need a bigger grocery store, and I'm glad they have one now.
  12. The checkout speed is something that will improve with time. Someone there told me they were forced to open prematurely (City? Landlord? He didn't say) so hopefully they can get prices on everything soon. I have some suggestions for them, but I was going to wait for them to settle in before sending them. One example is that $7 for a pint of local craft beer is way too much, unless it's something really special. $4 is typical, and $5 is an upper boundary, imo. Anyway, I hope they're successful. I think it's still a challengingly small place to have a grocer. They blow Byrd's away and are making fairly good use of the space.
  13. Hay Merchant scheduled tentatively to open between 2/9 and 2/13.
  14. That's actually in Texas Children's. The buildings are connected.
  15. Used to be true on the national level, but it's been losing ground: http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/highwaytrustfund/
  16. They're probably just increasing their space in that same building. I worked a contract position there for a short while.
  17. Oh no, the barbecue place is terrible. Go Fish is alright. The Chinese place is alright. The Methodist cafeteria probably has the best selection of any of the cafeterias, even if nothing stands out as awesome. Waterfall Cafe is a food court with various places, but nothing too special. TCH has a Chick-Fil-A. Eating in the Med Center is so depressing that I usually just grab a sandwich from our cafeteria.
  18. Media was hinting at that but police weren't confirming, the last time I saw. Maybe I missed an article.
  19. And let's not forget the new increased parking requirements for bars and restaurants.
  20. The guy's been released. It wasn't him.
