  1. If Wendy's was renting from a landlord then maybe they were pushed out by rising rents. If McDonald's franchise owner owns their property then they're not paying rent and can stay as long as they want provided they pay their taxes, regardless of what's appropriate for the area. There's plenty of factors we don't know.
  2. Yeah I looked at them. The 1 bed plus den corner units seemed like a good size and sweet patios, but $$$ especially after the renovation. Edit: Looks like they renovated out the dens to put in a dining room and they go for $1675+ now.
  3. Sure, just like many other terms. When a distracted driver hits and kills someone but isn't charged with a negligent homicide, that's car culture. When drivers park in the bike lane, that's car culture.
  4. 293 feet. http://www.emporis.com/building/houston-house-apartments-houston-tx-usa
  5. Parker does these polls that require you to enter an e-mail address every two years in July/August. It's just to collect e-mails to send fundraising e-mails etc. imo
  6. You said you doubt you'll ever go because of the policy. The policy has no effect on you because it only prohibits children during a time you wouldn't take them anyway.
  7. Well then, I don't see why you wouldn't go to the restaurant as the policy only applies after 7 PM.
  8. New Jersey is not known for its good beaches, compare to practically any beach in California or Florida.
  9. I wish Hall would take some stances on policy, but he hasn't. Not much chance of success on a pure anti-incumbent campaign unless the incumbent is widely despised, which isn't the case.
  10. The idiotic part is the article talking about how walkable the Heights is while saying everyone uses a car.
  11. The Heights has serious walkability problems like most other Houston neighborhoods. Agreed, if they can't even get the demonym right it is not worth reading!
  12. They've added the blocks back on to the corners, and now a primer gray coat on most of the building.
  13. You disagree that living downtown is good when you work downtown?? Why? You quoted samagon and in that exact same post he praised the virtues of a reverse commute such as that.
  14. Third Floor Bar has opened above Pub Fiction.
  15. Name of the cafe and more details. Common Bond: http://houston.eater.com/archives/2013/07/25/more-details-about-worldclass-cafe-common-bond.php
  16. Nobody has confirmed the headphones. Riding down the rails was confirmed baseless. The most recent account has her deboarding the northbound train and crossing the crosswalk with bicycle just as the southbound train was coming. Could be the noise from the northbound pulling away distracted her from the oncoming southbound. Sad story, and there's a memorial of flowers and cards developing there.
  17. Is it possible that we could discuss civic planning without going on an abortion tangent? To answer your questions about libertarians, they're generally not keen on imposing majority rule on to individuals, such as zoning regulations on individual property owners.
  18. Boheme has draft and craft, fairly decent selection, mostly on that back patio bar.
  19. Or maybe they improve street conditions by taking lots of cars off the road for those commutes, etc.
  20. There's better food at better prices during the day. The only time to go to Katz's is late at night when there is little traffic, and even then there are better options. Katz's never kloses, but I sure wish it would.
  21. Combination convenience store and deli has been working in Houston House ground level for years now.
