  1. You're still playing the Either/Or game. I'm playing the And game.
  2. Or: Secure more funding.
  3. 66 years of successful operation?
  4. I'm okay with surge pricing. It came in handy on a trip to DC recently. Surge pricing should be prohibited during weather emergencies, though. And taxis should be allowed to compete on equal footing (which is to say, they can also use surge pricing and surge prices are disclosed before booking).
  5. Here's the rumors I've been able to cobble together, take with a grain of salt. This is like fourth hand, so could have lots of inaccuracies: A guy in a trenchcoat went into the Starbucks, stole two bags of coffee, and ran. Cops ordered him to stop. He didn't, and the cops opened fire.
  6. There's been a shooting Downtown, Dallas at Main. No details or articles yet.
  7. Yes it is, but gotta play by the rules, and METRO blew millions on this folly.
  8. They require a well thought out plan, and compliance with various requirements, such as buying American. The feds suspended money from METRO when it was found that they were buying Spanish rail cars. It was later re-issued after they corrected this foolish mistake.
  9. I found the brisket pretty weak, more like roast beef. Awesome sides, though.
  10. I mean, what's the problem, are we going to hurt the feelings of long-dead freeway planners by criticizing their creations?
  11. I dunno, ask Upper Kirby District http://www.upperkirbydistrict.org/index2.php?option=com_content&do_pdf=1&id=115
  12. Yes, but we have the option of changing our environment to something that suits us better. Dallas built a park over a freeway. http://cityhallblog.dallasnews.com/files/2013/03/NM_23DeckParkMTower04.jpg
  13. Disagree. I want the University Line for personal reasons, but there are a lot of people in the East End and Third Ward that are hungry for good transit.
  14. No, they voted voted for this. Not to go through any particular neighborhoods like Afton Oaks.
  15. Yet the University Line is in full color. Weird.
  16. Blocks out of the way, oh the horrors.
  17. For a look at what an awesome roof can do, go to the Cy Twombly Gallery (also on the Menil campus) on a sunny day. The roof is built to diffuse the light and provide a soft glow to the room using natural sunlight. It's really cool. Notice that I said to go and see the roof, not the art. Not a Cy Twombly fan at all!
  18. Most of these points make more sense in relation to raising the speed limit above the previous status quo of 55. I don't agree that they support raising the speed limit to 75, 80, or more.
  19. All he had to do was order them off his property. He hadn't done that yet. He had no right to brandish a firearm at them. They might take a plea on the assault charge, but I doubt it is getting dropped. All kinds of people knock on front doors. Political volunteers, people selling cookies or magazines, neighbors that want to address a neighborhood issue, religious people...none of these people violate someone's privacy by simply knocking on the front door.
  20. This guy will have plenty have time to think about his mistake in prison. Knocking on someone's front door is not violating their privacy.
  21. You might want to read the statute on criminal trespass. If you want to keep people off your property you need to either erect a fence or post a No Trespassing sign. If neither are present, you have to actually tell them to leave before they're required to leave. And preferably not while brandishing a firearm at them. We can't have people brandishing a gun every time the Girl Scouts knock on someone's door to sell some cookies. Anyway, this is ridiculous behavior by this guy. Hope they follow through on the prosecution.
  22. It had a prehistoric Web 1.0 web design, but was a really good resource for tracking openings and closings of restaurants.
  23. They are busy because they are wide. Narrow them and people will choose other routes, and they'll be no busier than Decatur St in New Orleans is right now.
  24. http://www.fta.dot.gov/documents/TX_Houston_North_Corridor_LRT_complete_profile.pdf And for SE: http://www.fta.dot.gov/documents/TX_Houston_Southeast_Corridor_LRT_complete_profile.pdf
  25. Publications with paywalls enable the full article to be accessed from search engines. This way the search engine can index the full story. They get click-through traffic from people that search words in the story. If nobody ever finds their articles on Google they risk losing relevance.
