  1. Not in that big old truck you're always boasting about.
  2. Was discussing with marksmu restaurants that serve alcohol, not Beck's Prime, Lola, Jenni's, Collinas, Thai Spice, Revival Market, Dry Creek, Happy Fatz, soon to be Heights General Store and Torchy's. Yes, I'm aware of Shade and Coltivare, but so many restaurants with no alcohol, I think demonstrates my point.
  3. How do you expect to attract restaurants with alcohol if you support the alcohol ban with s3mh? Down House is an anomaly. Most business people aren't going to see the point in putting up with the "private club" workaround when there's an entire city out there that doesn't restrict them in this way.
  4. So nobody goes between Shepherd and Durham because...nobody goes between Shepherd and Durham? Maybe nobody goes there because there was nothing worth going to. I've had the Fat Cat ice cream, and it's worth seeking out.
  5. You said there were no new tenants. You weren't sure if Yao had left yet. Hmm.
  6. I think the internal outdoor mall thing was a mistake, and it should have faced outward with more than typical sidewalk space to be used for restaurant patios and etc. It feels unnatural to go through it on the ground level, because walking straight through is jaywalking.
  7. "Available square feet for ground level retail" is another way of saying unleased space. So yeah, I would say the studio and NRG are a net positive for a development that was mostly unleased and struggling.
  8. I live downtown, arroddii does, and samagon lives pretty close if I recall correctly.
  9. Yao's has been gone for a while. HP has been transferred to Magic Johnson's group. Not just rumors, new tenants include Comcast SportsNet TV studio and Scott Gertner's Skybar.
  10. Only one person is giving that advice. But anyway, there's no news on HP, so the thread is adrift.
  11. I've lived downtown since 2008 and "No" has always sufficed. Nobody's ever tried to hurt me or follow me. I do agree that street harassment of women downtown is a problem, though, and not just by "bums."
  12. The two grocery stores referred to are Phoenicia and Georgia's. That's true, but they're avoiding the heat, not the bums.
  13. I live downtown. Six blocks is not a long way to walk. If a person asks you for something you don't want to give them, simply say No. I don't even make up sob stories about being out of change. I just say, "No" and they leave me alone. Try it. Yeah but the round trip, man! The round trip!
  14. Take for lease signs with a grain of salt. I know a place that is already rented out and almost ready to open and the renter is keeping the sign up to keep a lid on things.
  15. I think you're counting chickens that aren't hatched. Georgia's is a long way from being a grocery store, and as best as I can tell, it is struggling. Their website went down for a while due to a slow payment to their PR firm, I heard.
  16. I think ticket sales for both Angelika and Sundance have shown that Downtown can currently support about one movie theater. The fact that iPic and Sundance are both "premium" style theaters makes it even worse.
  17. Yeah, we have Sundance. We don't need a second theater, and the space isn't big enough.
  18. I went to Cafe Layal to smoke a hookah the other day. It was fun and took me back to 1999 or so. Interior of the place is kind of bland, in my opinion, but hey, I had fun.
  19. Yeah, all my votes are going to HAWC this month.
  20. Galleria is the number one shopping destination in the area, especially for the people with money that the All-Star Game draws. Lots of luxury retailers there. Also a good chance of seeing some celebrities walking around, if you're into that. I try to avoid the Galleria on all days as a general rule.
  21. Are they doing Louisiana? Apparently not. Are they doing Regent's Square? Apparently so. Will there be another Midtown Alamo? Since the Louisiana one is canceled, we'll not know if and until they announce finding a new location.
  22. It's not necessarily impossible. In Austin, Ritz and Lamar locations are closer than that to each other. Lamar's currently closed for renovations, but still.
  23. No, the article says they're looking at other locations in Midtown. Sounds like 2901 Louisiana is canceled.
  24. Nothing is permanent, but a single story building has just as much staying power as a parking lot, potentially.
