  1. And to add on to what RedScare said, there is also a sizable Hispanic population here, such as myself, that absolutely loves football (soccer). That population is growing year after year so to say that this could all fall apart once they move into the new place, I highly highly highhhhhly doubt it. Go to the Kentucky Derby if you want to watch horse racing.. Houston's the last place you think of for such a sport.
  2. Actually a B&N would be awesome. I know I myself and a bunch of my friends would go there. A quiet environment to study and a good hang out place to get coffee especially since all the Starbucks seem to close early here.. good way to find other types of books as well.
  3. Damn it. Well, I park in that parking lot for dinner at the cafeteria... guess I'll have to find another space. Glad to hear they are building more garages though
  4. lol So I guess nobody knows? Just odd to have such a specific number as "48" floating around and then have it turn into an industrial park
  5. So what was the 48 story tower all about then?
  6. haha. They just had to include a box-shaped building. Really nice design... this is one so far that would definitely be awesome to see built. Even at 35 stories, it's definitely going to stand out since there's no other tall building in the area, just how Anadarko in the Woodlands appears impressive since it only has low rises in the area next to it.
  7. Totally surprised more people haven't mentioned Bombay Pizza in the middle of downtown on Main. By far my favorite pizza place now even though it's pretty expensive.
  8. Surprised this hasn't been posted yet... they have the rendering all around campus today: There are tons of other renders if people want to post them here as well (near the bottom) : http://www.buildinguhpridetogether.com/
  9. Yea, it's really cool that this project is going ahead. This is probably my favorite part of Midtown since you can just chill at Cafe Layal, smoke hookah, and just watch the world drive by on Grey. Can't wait to see the shops that decide to come in to this development.
  10. 40,000 seems small? That's a smart number for UH. We have around 40,000 students right now which obviously doesn't include the alumni that come to the games.. parents and the other side that decides to show up. That means when the spotlight is on, the stadium looks packed and I'd imagine with this new stadium, it won't be free for students anymore. So UH can charge a good amount on a ticket since more people will be competing for the same ticket.. Of course, it won't be great for the students but the university will get a better image during the games and of course a lot more profit
  11. Fellow Coog here that actually played in the snow so I can answer your questions...the snow is called UH's Winter Wonderland and it was made possible by an organization called SPB (Student Program Board). There were funnel cakes, hot chocolate, a gingerbread house competition and a lot of other free stuff.. it was like a present to the UH students before they left for the break. Edit: The snow was mainly there so that people could have snowball fights
  12. This photo doesn't give it much justice since I'm far away but I suppose it's better than nothing:
  13. ^ I said "wow" too. I cannot wait for them to finish this. Forgot to snap a pic! Ill try again tomorrow
  14. Oh yea sorry guys. Ill try to post a 5 megapixel pic tomorrow so you guys can at least see what Im talking about and hopefully Jax can post some better quality photos this weekend. lol
  15. Has anyone seen the bridge over Brays?? The one down from Almeda/MacGregor? It is MASSIVE. The height of the arches of this bridge is jaw dropping. I'd have to say this has to be quite an impressive pedestrian bridge for Houston
  16. Totally agree. With Wheeler the way it is, the last thing we need is major construction on Cullen. Really surprised how many people that go to UH are on here!
  17. Yea, it has pretty much stopped since the last time I was there a few weeks ago. It seems like most of their attention has been the area around 288.
  18. Yup, since I'm taking summer classes at UofH, I see this everyday. The campus is definitely booming and it's making me wonder how they're doing this especially since they have an extensive budget shortfall right now... perhaps donations? Either way, my favorite new building is definitely the new Fleming building. Very nice. Btw, in this picture where everything is blocked off... this is actually where the new Robertson stadium parking garage is going in. I hear there will be lots of retail on the bottom floor, including possibly a Taco Cabana. The other idea that's been tossed around is that the Taco Cabana may replace Chili's to go. Edit: thanks for the pics! they were great. I take it that you are a fellow coog as well?
  19. Like I said, Im all for the new construction but this new building next to the clock looks pretty close to Agnes Arnold Hall which isnt that great looking. Guess it has to do with the UH budget shortfall maybe.
  20. Im all for new construction on the campus but whats up with bland architecture like this? It's actually kinda on the ugly side.
