  1. Very nice! No, they havent built that gem yet. There's just an old building there from what looks like the late 70s/80s.
  2. I was riding my bike down W Holcombe Blvd (just west of TMC) and I came across this: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y28/march4marc/2011-05-22_16-24-36_954.jpg?t=1306128884 Anyone have any clue what it is? It's on Holcombe between Morningside Dr and Kelvin Dr. I looked up the location on Google Earth and it appears a red-roofed building was there before. The lot is extremely small so I was surprised by the crane that was there.
  3. Not much going on recently. Here's the beginning works of that bridge that's going to go across Brays: A closer picture but its a bit grainy. Bigger overview. Sorry it seems a bit blurry. Dont know what was up with my Droid.
  4. Nice. Ahhh... the Spires (had a coworker that worked there)... sure there's a great view everywhere you look! Anyway, let me finally post some pictures of this other bridge I was talking about that it appears they are building over Brays Bayou near Scott.
  5. Well, rode the bridge today. I like it. Very beautiful design and there are already tons of people using it to get across Memorial and the bayou. The only flaws I see/felt so far was that the bridge is a little bumpy... would think it could be a little smoother in some areas but I'd imagine most people that walk or run wouldn't notice as I did on my bike. Also felt that the words "slow" and "stop" at the crossing point where both bridges connected was kinda unnecessary.. no one is going to stop. Not even the cop that was on her bike stopped where it said to stop. I didn't either... I slowed down when was kids crossed my path but that was about it. Annnyway, here are some pics of the bridge that I took around 5pm: From upper Memorial Here's the "slow" mark on the concrete I was talking about. That's understandable to have "slow" there, but like I said, no one is going to follow "stop." View from the upper bridge: ...and looking down towards the lower bridge: Memorial... looking at upper bridge: The entrance to the lower bridge from Memorial: Coming from Allen Parkway:
  6. Nice. Going to ride it tomorrow then! Then I post pics of the right bridge lol
  7. Oh whoops!! Posted in the wrong thread. What a n00b lol Edit: Can a moderator please delete this post and move my post about the new bridge to the Brays Bayou thread? Sorry for being a dumbass
  8. Kinda surprised no one else is talking about the other bridge that it appears that they are building near Scott. Edit: Sorry for the pics being kinda small. Accidentally deleted the good ones.
  9. Unfortunately it doesn't go through. You have to take a neighborhood road, Ardmore Street. Since youre coming from the other direction, I see what youre saying. That's exactly right. You'd take Dixie Road all the way, cross Almeda and take the new bridge. Can't wait for it to be finished. I just hope that someday they build that small section of the Columbia Tap.
  10. You dont have to do that. There's the bike trail that goes from Shenandoah Street to Dixie Drive. But anyway, you're right. Sounds like the finished product will be better.
  11. I've also noticed that it appears they may be building another bridge near Scott going towards 288. Has anyone else seen this too? They've been digging up dirt on the north side of the bayou and on both sides they have areas marked off directly across from each other. Just a guess though
  12. Well, speaking as a cyclist that travels through this area nearly every weekend, I would have to say this is a smart location for a bridge. This bridge *I believe* is mainly for the people who like to take the bike trail that goes over 288 which is part of the Columbia Tap Rail Trail. This would allow people to take Dixie Dr, cross Almeda, and then take this bridge to get over to the other side fairly quickly. Why is this quicker? Well, at the moment, if you come down Dixie Dr from the 288 bridge, then you have to bike all the way down Almeda to MacGregor and once you're on MacGregor you have to cross the actual street to get over to the zoo area. If none of this makes sense, maybe I can show you what I'm talking about with my bad paint skills lol The dark red is the existing trail that you have to take in order to get from 288 to the zoo area. The light red is the new trail according to the picture they provided.
  13. Yea, we were discussing this in the UH thread. The article(s) posted so far have yet to say where the location of this building is. I honestly don't think the campus has enough room for this large of a building. Could be wrong, but I see this perhaps being in the TMC.
  14. Well, I've been going to UH for two years now and I walk around campus almost everyday and I still have no clue where this biomedical building is being built. The article doesn't give much detail... awesome. Would this happen to be the building on Cullen next to the stadium or is that some other building that's already been mentioned before?
  15. That's a good question. Like mfastx said, most have probably been cancelled. But as for Titan, the website is still there so perhaps Titan is still a project that will come later? Not sure
  16. This Friday probably wasn't the best night to go. A large amount of people were probably at the UH game that started at 9:15pm and went well into the late night hours.
  17. Yea, that's it! Im glad that they finally demolished it. Could have sworn it said post office somewhere on that building.. perhaps it was a small section of the overall building? Anyway, yea, the mental science building needed to go. Guess nobody knows what's going to replace it? Kind of surprised
  18. For weeks now, I've been wondering what they are doing at the corner of Moursund Street and MD Anderson Blvd ever since they completely fenced it off. I believe it was an old 60s/70s post office but so far all my results have been saying it was the University of Texas Mental Science building. Either way, the building was torn down and the entire lot has been bulldozed! It's a fairly large corner so I was thinking it may be another tower for the TMC. Anyone know what is going on at this corner?
  19. Hey... I may have seen you taking that shot! If you took it at the one at Almeda. May have been someone else. Idk So is everyone else taking the Columbia Tap bridge over 288 to go from UofH to TMC or vice versa? And did anyone else see the HUGE slab of concrete that snapped off under the bridge of Scott Street? The county seriously needs to get that checked out before it does some worse damage.
  20. The place that needs an under-the-bridge path the most is at N/S Braeswood Blvd and Buffalo Speedway. I have to deal with on coming cars from both directions. ... oh even maybe build a seperate bridge for the brays bayou trail. Besides that, I agree. They definitely need a path under Almeda too. Would make a pleasant ride from UofH to TMC
  21. It is technically topped out. What they are building now are the mechanical floors that won't house any more office space.
