  1. other then the fact that's its called the Wings over HOUSTON airshow, and its at Ellington Field which is part of the HOUSTON Airport System and it take place within the city limits. yeah that's not a houston thing at all. for anyone who does care, i hear the blue angels will be here next year from a co-worker.
  2. i was actually on the railing next to the conoco pump. some people around us got phone calls from people who saw them on tv. the berkman and burke homeruns were to the right of me, but the ausmus homerun was right below my feet, i actually leaned over and saw it hit the wall!
  3. quite a game indeed. i got a great panoramic of MMP while waiting for Burke to end it. there are also some shots of the jumbotron showing the longest game record and ausmus and burke homeruns. my girlfriend was at the Texans game and she said a lot of people were listening to Milo on the radio and updating her section on the game. they got "let's go astros" going pretty loud.
  4. i still see the sign for it where it ends at the beltway 8 feeder, just east of 288. http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=29.602864,-...,0.019121&hl=en sorry if this is a duplicate thread, didn't see the other one.
  5. the wings over houston airshow is this weekend. i just saw the snowbirds practicing, so i went to the website. they're headlining, which is quite a disappointment. ever since i moved here it's been the thunderbirds, which was already a step down from what i was used to in DC - the blue angels. and now they have a canadian snowbirds as the headliner?? what's up with that?
  6. yeah, but if they build it at grade it'll make for some great accident scenarios... national news here we come!
  7. agree with you here. it can be scary being a pedestrian downtown the way people drive. then how to explain people in manhattan walking from place to place when its 100 degrees or 10 degrees. obviously their heat comes in waves and doesn't last as long as ours, but it does get really hot and that doesn't slow down the city. and if you look at their winters and the amount of rain they get, they have some pretty unfriendly walking weather. for us, from now to May is great.
  8. none of my OU friends mind going to the Red River Shootout. they're actually slightly closer to dallas then austin, and leaving their state becomes irrelavant once half the cotton bowl turns red. and unfortunately for the last few years they've enjoyed it more then the longhorns, but hopefully that will change this year. it is often called the best rivalry in college football.
  9. i could see the saints demanding a new stadium to stay in town, they've already thought about leaving. found this link to a new saints stadium. they had almost 60k at the alamodome in attendance last week which holds 65K. the saints average the superdome was higher then this last year.
  10. blue collar? white collar? i wear t-shirts, jeans, and sandals to work.
  11. opinions aside, from my experience from going out (which i've done countless times in both cities), there are tons of good looking girls in both cities, but in dallas its more white, plastic, and makeup. and don't forget about UT Austin, there's so much to see there its unreal. whether you're in dallas or houston, you're only 2.5 hours away from 6th street!
  12. ^^yeah, but ours are a lot more diverse! i admit dallas has a lot of good looking girls, probably more prevalent then houston on an average night, but they all look the same.
  13. i completely agree. not just at the same table, but at the same venue. when we went bar-hopping, every place we went was either all white or all black, very little mix. but overall i like the city, i have some friends at Tech so i make it over every once and a while.
  14. yup. my only issue is the bathroom breaks mid-show after one of those buckets... but that's my problem. the best part is the 18+ atmosphere. star cinema grill opened in clear lake, similar to alamo, but its just not the same. i think the service is the biggest issue, hopefully they'll learn. they also don't have the selection the drafthouse has. that's probably why its called a drafthouse. hopefully they'll make their way into the loop, these locations are way too far for me to go...
  15. you beat me to it heights guy, here's the article: Others deny DeLay didn't get chance to tell his side
  16. my close friend's father came out and divorced his mom when he was 16. the hardest part was definitely the divorce, though his parents are still close. he hangs out with his dad all the time, and after a little bit of time he was ok with it. i didn't meet him until college, i'm sure it was bad at first, but now he's very open about the whole thing.

  18. when there's not a traffic jam, i would guess the left hand land is averaging at least 75mph, and of course there are always many who are going faster or slower. but i'll overtake cops going 75 without worrying, though they're usually going faster anyways. most of my freeway driving is on the Gulf and Katy frwy.
  19. maybe there aren't any on this forum.
  20. even if you know what your house can theoretically withstand, how much does that mean? at one point, they were predicting 120mph winds in sugarland. even if your house is built to withstand that, i can understand people wanted to leave, given the scenario as of wednesday. and since we didn't get hit hard, the only education we can get out of Rita, is how to evacuate. open contra-flow earlier. close entrances to 45 to allow people from close to the gulf to evacuate first. use the media to clearly convey a staggered evac. that you will not be able to get on a freeway if you live here, until this time. you can call them puppies if you want, but bottom line is people are free to leave if they want, and when they want. the only hope would be to try to keep order and let them know they don't need to leave until a certain time.
  21. you don't think people should be taking their pets? would that really cause more problems with traffic. i didn't see any dogs driving their own vehicles, but maybe i missed it. i was annoyed to see all the people driving alone. my friends and i fled in a two-door accord. they were all hurricane virgins. one just started a rotation at UTMB, i just helped the poor guy move in to a condo on 4th street last week, and he had to leave two days later. my other friend and i literally live on clear lake, so we packed up our cars and headed to another friend's who just bought a house in pearland. i was tempted to ride it out, but the others were scared and didn't want to take chances. we had no idea how the house would hold up, or if it tended to flood. we had a place to stay in austin so we took off at 3am thursday. thankfully our neighbor let us keep our cars in her garage, which helped out a lot. 4 of us in a coupe with no air-conditioning, 10 hours and 9 gallons later we were there. i don't regret leaving, at the time given the track, i think it was the right thing to do. but i do know people who fled from spring which i don't get. most of my parents friends who live in cinco ranch stuck around.
  22. there are four in austin now, just went to lake creek last weekend. looks like there's going to be one on south mason road in katy coming soon. so they are expanding in houston, i agree downtown would be a great place for one. maybe we can email the drafhouse and the pavilions and introduce them to each other.
  23. we were wondering that last night- " Overhead facility damage is easier to locate than underground and can generally be repaired quicker. Underground interruptions may be less frequent, but typically last longer due to more complex repair requirements. Following recent hurricanes, we
  24. well i spent almost 12 hours on the road, and everyone was very civilized and orderly, even when we were standing outside of our cars in a parking lot on the freeway. when you have 2.7 million people leaving their home behind, you're going to have incidents, no matter where you are.
  25. getting on the grand pkwy from westpark-
