  1. LOL, I totally agree. If those are from 1999, I'm going to cry.
  2. Howl-at-the-Moon has been open next to Pub Fiction and Spec's for a while now. I haven't been yet, but my friends say it is pretty nice. I assume it is just like the Howl-at-the-Moon in San Antonio, which is fun. I'm not really into the whole sing-along thing (as much as I in using hyphens apparently ), but a nice non-meat-market place to take friends and family for a little drink.
  3. Thank you professor. I'm glad I graduated from law school and still need to be told that "gambling was [not] legal in Texas." I must have missed the lecture that day. I am just posting a pipe dream, is that not legal either?
  4. Midtown residents also what something done about the homeless. Has anyone driven down San Jacinto into downtown in the morning? There is a street to the left where about 30-40 vagrants wander around, congregate, and jaywalk in front of people who are on their way to work in the morning. The irony is not lost on me.
  5. Any update on this? I would like to hear what the interior is going to look like and have not found anything on the net.
  6. I go eat at the Market Sq. Cafe and Treedbeard
  7. Surviving the Game. I had to look it up.
  8. I randomly talking to a guy that had just moved to Houston from St. Louis. He was an architect and was transferred here because it was the only city that had not yet suffered from housing bubble. Reverse white-flight / gentrification is certainly making its mark on the city. I would certain call these boom-times.
  9. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, "casino."
  10. While looking on Ebay I noticed a listing for a souvenir sticker and ticket for South Main Roller Rink. Possibly this is related to the Gateway Swim And Skate At 8510 South Main? I didn't know there was another skating business so close by. Is there an address for this place? Anyone have any memories of this place? Share your stories and knowledge!
  11. "There are plenty of wonderful surface lots" that "stand as a monument to government incompetence, a reminder to why the City needs to stay out of the planning and development business--because they suck at it." I agree though. I want someone to spruce up the old Texaco building or the old building just west of it.
  12. I definitely want to witness this little gem go down. I wish it could have been converted into another hotel, but there are plenty other historic buildings to either side that need work too. I imagine that the old Texaco building and the one next door will soon have new life. Please keep us posted on when the dynamite will go off. I've always wanted to see an implosion. >
  13. I do like the design, but this is what first came to mind--the bic building
  14. I would like to hear my fellow Haifer's opinions on this project after having a few months for it to settle. I still love it--elegant, clean, and a classical design that never goes out of style.
  15. Touche, good sir. I seriously laughed out loud.
  16. 100k is a completely arbitrary number, and was what I considered to be at the high end for a temporary sales office. In that regard, if you say the sales office is even 50k, then it seems less wasteful. I don
  17. I went to that game too. It was real exciting. We will definitely go to another. After going to my first Dynamo game at Robertson, I cannot wait until there is a new stadium. Parking at U of H was a nightmare--thank god for peddy cabs. Sorry Cougar fans but Robertson Stadium is a dump and the concessions there were awful. I waited in line for beer for like 15 minutes before I spotted a vendor carrying a cooler. The Dynamo need a new home pronto. Wasn't there supposed to be an announcement concerning the stadium?
  18. At a minimum of $1 million a pop, I hardly see how even a $100k sales office is "very stupid." The way I see it, anyone who is willing to pay $2 million for an apartment probably wants the red-carpet treatment every step of the way. An excessive sales office is more than paid for if it sells just one extra unit. --but that is just my opinion.
  19. A "taking" is essentially just a forced sale to the state, however both the 5th amendment to the United States Constitution and Art. 1 of the Texas Constitution require "just compensation".
  20. Yes, sheep. You don't have to believe everything you see on TV, and Garnett was only one example of a possible celebrity-for-hire. My point was: I don't completely agree that "the popularity of sport in America is judged by the number of celebrities sighted at games".
  21. You must be kidding. You would rank a tier-two college, a tiny private school, and an unknown over all of Houston's pro-teams? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but your ranks just seem arbitrary. I can't believe the Comets and TSU were even acknowledged as having a team.
