  1. It's the Foley's House. I couldn't find the article about it on the GHPA website, but I did find this: http://www.downtownhouston.org/Home/News/
  2. I just have one word: "CASINO"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...and my first emoticon usage: >
  3. I noticed that there is a stack of chain-link fencing and a few additional cargo crates on the middle parking lot today.
  4. I couldn't find the "New River City" post with the discussion of developments along the bayou, but this article from the HBJ was kind of interesting. I'm not sure what exactly dragon boats are, but it would be nice to see more use of our beloved 'crik'. Buffalo Bayou to get boathouse Houston Business Journal - 12:39 PM CST Tuesday Print this Article Email this Article Reprints RSS Feeds Most Viewed Most Emailed The Texas Dragon Boat Association plans to build the city's first boathouse along Buffalo Bayou. The non-profit association organizes the Houston Dragon Boat Festival on the bayou each May to carry on the tradition of dragon boating and increase awareness of Asian and Asian American culture. The Houston Endowment donated $75,000 to build the boathouse at 501 N. York Street, which will be used to store dragon boats. The association will also use the new facility for training and as a launch site for community-based teams. Construction is expected to begin in the summer. "We supported the project because of the year-round team-building, youth boating education and breast cancer survivor programs," said Ann Hamilton of Houston Endowment. "Dragon boat racing is a great way at-risk populations can engage in healthy activities on one of Houston's most historic waterways." Houston City Councilman Adrian Garcia says the boathouse will encourage more Houstonians to take advantage of Buffalo Bayou. The 2007 Houston Dragon Boat Festival is scheduled for May 5 at Allen's Landing. Last year's event drew more than 25 teams.
  5. It's the top of the lights along Main Street.
  6. Musicman, I've never seen so many posts from one person in the same thread. I mean, it's pictures of "The Beav" all the way down the post. Don't you work or are you a lobbyist paid for by the Afton Oaks residents?
  7. I see that I was quoted in your post. I apologize. I was obviously making an uncorroborated sweeping generalization about a few homes directly on Richmond. My intention was merely to suggest that having the rail from Midtown to the Galleria via Richmond would have more utility than having it zigzag all over Houston
  8. Whichever plan is finally built, the line must, at the very minimum, travel past Greenway Plaza. I can't imagine choosing the plans that doesn't. I don't remember specifically each of the plans, but I think not traveling down to Richmond and Wesleyan would be a mistake. As I recall we have discussed that multi-use building going up where the old HISD complex used to be. That development would be a significant boost to ridership and for further development of the area (I would like to be able to take the train to the movies). I don't intend to start another tirade, but why do the few home owners that live on Richmond hate the Rail passing by their lot? Most of those houses are worth less than the ground their built on. Not to mention the fact that Richmond in that area is as super busy, and I would imagine that noise and traffic adversely affect their property value. While the construction would certainly be a nuisance, I think that the homeowners are being too shortsighted.
  9. I wonder if they are going to tear down that old warehouse or use it for the bar--extensively remodeling it, of course. As a midtown resident, I am happy to see a bar like this going in. Aside from being next to Pub Fiction, however, I think they are putting it in a random spot.
  10. Thanks. I'll have to remember about this place. We usually just go to the Edwards 24.
  11. I saw Club America play F.C. Barcelona in Reliant. It was amazing.
  12. I've always wanted to go to a drive-in. I think they would work.
  13. I always wonder what the history is about this building. Does anyone know anything about it? It reminds me of the quarter in New Orleans. I can

  15. What about that old warehouse on Allen Parkway? They've started tearing it down. I assume they are going to put up another apartment complex.
  16. Does anyone know what is being built at Alabama and Montrose? I looked on the Linbeck and STU website but could not find an answer. They have torn down the brick fence on the corner and have put up scaffolding. The base of the structure is cinderblocks.
  17. I drive past these lots everyday, and just recently they placed a Porto-potty and one of those big cargo crates on the middle lot. It looks to me like they are going to start closing off the parking lots.
