  1. I already avoid Uptown and anything near Highland Village at all cost.
  2. I know your slightly kidding, but I do love the irony of making more parking. I just don't like the idea of gutting it and filling it with concert. IMO, saving at least some of what it was like as a venue should be part of any plan. <------I mean, this is my icon we're talking about!
  3. Only the east half of the park is for sale. The western half with the tennis courts is still owned by the City. The land was given to the City with a possibility of reverter that would cause the land to revert back to the MacGregor heirs if the park was ever not used as a park. Long story short, the heirs sued the City and reacquired the eastern half of the park. There is currently, however, litigation between the heirs and their former attorneys, so, IMO, it may be a little while before the land is actually sold to a developer.
  4. Two points: I didn't realize Dancing Marling closed. That surprises me. Second, I just ate at Market Street today, and, for what it
  5. I am really sad to see that place go. Where is the old Dancing Marlin. Also, the end of Jan. or Feb.?
  6. LOL, that's one of the funniest stories I've ever heard.
  7. I agree. Driving past them, you can see Josephine's from the other side. It is going to be very nice once the glass and everything is installed--wide open and flooded with sun light. I am excited to see this thing finished.
  8. That is a good idea. Maybe not donate it just to the HMFA, but to the Houston Art Alliance or whatever that organization is called that represents the museums. I do wonder, however, if those entities could actually support the cost of owning the Dome. I agree that the parking garage is a reasonable idea, even if it seems kind of humiliating. I just worry that turning it into a parking garage would basically gut the whole building and all that would be left was the roof. Casino.
  9. I was at Fannin and Capital looking southwest down Fannin. It was a decent view, and I was only kidding. I'll try and post my video when I get home. I just parked and got out, without much thought of where to watch. It was kind early and I was pretty much still asleep.
  10. Your view was better than mine. I was on the other side watching down Fannin. I think it was Fannin. I won't post my video, because it's the same, but that was awesome. I can finally scratch that off my list of things to see.
  11. Just a guess, but if the bar closed because the entity was liquidated, I can imagine that all the furniture and things were either sold off so satisfy debts or repossessed by their seller. Either way, I bet the place is pretty much empty now. That place was pretty nice though.
  12. Whoa! I hope Market Street Grill doesn't leave, I need their Philly Cheese Steak to stay sane.
  13. Ok, I tried to defend it, but that picture seems to be almost an exaggeration. I don't remember the building being that bright, but when juxtaposed to the surround offices it really stands out. Is that a Technicolor photo? CVS does immediately come to mind.
  14. I actually went by on the 13th for a round of Frisbee golf. I flung my first toss off the tee box right into the new park and had to ask "some dude" to get it back for me. I felt 8 years old again. Anyways, the park looks really cool, and a large portion of it seems done. You should drive by and see it, just park on the Sabine St. Bridge. I was really impressed. I wish I had something like this when I was a skater punk. In general, I am very happy the City is taking steps to improve the parks system, even if the amenties don't cater to everyone. It's just nice to have people around doing things.
  15. For the record, real property cannot be abandoned. So, generally, someone or something will always own the property. What they chose to do or not do with it is another matter.
  16. Whew, for a second I thought the bar was going in where Josephine's is located. I ate at the Japanese place once. It was okay, but too isolated of a location in my opinion. Only a Houston original like Josephine's could survive there. It will be great to have a bar across the street from the HOB to "pre-game" before a show. Hopefully the bar will be bigger than the restaurant that precedes it.
  17. It certainly is nice to hear things straight from the mouth of the purported horse. Make it happen RegentSquare!
  18. "'Depending on what Metro does, there may be a retail component in the second phase, along with residential," says Kirkpatrick, who helped obtain $26 million in financing for the project's first phase.'" Do you guys think that means, "whether or not rail goes by at all" or does that mean "whether or not there is a stop close by"? Maybe both. I drive past this place daily, and the pictures do not do it justice; this place looks HUGE. A complex this size should do much to improve the commercial appeal of the area.
  19. There is a new open-air mall at Highway 71 and Beecaves Road in Austin. I went there with my parents over the holidays, and it was nice. The mall was designed to look like an old town square: sidewalks, park benches, facades that look like separate buildings, etc. I question how nice it will be in heat of August; but if the goods are cheap, they will come.
  20. The design doesn't knock me off my feet, but this is a fire station so functionality is and should be the only important consideration. I doubt the funds available to the HFD would be better spent on hiring a world renowned architect make a ground breaking design. In my opinion, the building is conventional and administrative, conservative and functional. I give it a solid, "Okay."
  21. I personally think turning the Astrodome into a hotel is a silly idea. Other than the Rodeo or the Olympics, I can't imagine an event large enough to justify a hotel that size in the area. But that is just my opinion. I know I have said, "Casino" several times; but because I know it will never happen, that has been mostly been in jest. Just give the damn thing to the state and have them turn it into a museum or something. Or The Astrodome Casino (proceeds go to payback the City and the rest goes to fund education. )
